Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box

Birchbox has the best limited edition boxes in my opinion, and their latest Modern Mermaid Box is another great one!

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review First Look

(I took quite a few unboxing photos since their limited edition packaging is always amazing).

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Box

Birchbox kindly sent me the Modern Mermaid box to review.

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Items

The Box: Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid

The Cost: $44

The Products:

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Card

The box comes with a card detailing each item included. (FYI - my box is missing the Atelier Cologne travel spray, so I won't be able to review it, but I'll count it toward the value since it should have been in the box).

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Nail Polish

Ruffian Nail Lacquer Endless Summer Collection - Value $26.50

I love these summery /aquatic metallic shades - and I'm a little obsessed with Sahara - the sand colored metallic on the left.

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Eyeliner

Anastasia Lash Genius Travel Size Value $10

Vasanti Kajal Extreme Intense Eye Pencil in Electric Navy - FULL SIZE! Value $18

Normally I don't get too excited about eye liner, but after trying this vasanti blue one, I think it may be my favorite item in the box! It does go on super smooth and vibrant, and I was able to smudge it to a level that I didn't think looked too extreme but still made my eyes pop. I think blue-eyeliner will become my makeup staple for the summer! (And this lash genius product makes any mascara waterproof - I'm excited to try it!)

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Coola

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Mane Sea Salt Spray - 2 oz Value $12

Coola LipLux SPF 30 Lip Balm - FULL SIZE! Value $12

I love that this sea salt spray is made with natural and organic ingredients. I just tried it on my curly hair (which I didn't expect to see any results on - and didn't), but the scent is wonderful. It's not beachy like I expected, but very natural. Next time I straighten my hair I'll try it out!  (I've already sampled this Coola lip balm before and love it, so I'm happy to have a new one for this summer!).

Birchbox Limited Edition: Modern Mermaid Box Review Mirror

Stephanie Johnson Mirror - Value $22

This is one of those items that I wouldn't pay full price for, but now that it is in my hands I absolutely love it.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $115 (Counting the non-pictured Travel Size perfume). I think it's a great value, and I love every product I've sampled so far. I think I'm going to buy another box or two so that I have awesome gifts for upcoming summer birthdays! Did you get the Modern Mermaid box? What did you think of it?

I ended up ordering this to cash out my points. My mirror was lovely (I’ve seen some photos online of some that weren’t as pretty; I guess it’s all in the cut of the covering material) and I think I’ll wear the blue nail polish tomorrow (well, put it on tomorrow evening, anyway). And one of these days I will finally try sea salt spray (my hair is perfect for it, based on what I’ve read).

I think I will continue to buy random things at Birchbox (e.g., if I want to try a new sunscreen) and use coupon codes and points when I get them, but I think I will be happier just using it as a shop instead of subbing — then I can pick what I want.

Shipping was uber-fast. I ordered this Thursday or Friday and got it Monday. (My mystery pick 2 sample pack was stuff I’d already gotten in my sub before I canceled, but oh well, it was free.)

Just got mine today and was super excited but my sea salt spray was open and soaked the entire box:( I called and spoke and they are having it replaced right away I’ve never had such great customer service 🙂

I agree that Birchbox has the best LE boxes. I have gotten every single one since the Snow Day one and I have loved each of them. I was on the fence with this one because I already have the blue eyeliner (love the color, but it smeared too much for me – I may have to try it again and set it, but I already have a full size I purchased a few months back – I got this box for other items). I like the sea salt spray but am not really sure how to use it, but I decided to try it anyway and I liked the results (sprayed it on my towel dried hair and used a diffuser to blow out my hair and it kind of made my hair a bit wavy which was nice). I like the smell too.

I love the mirror – it is beautiful in person.

I like the Ruffian nail polish and the colors are gorgeous. I like this brand, it goes on well and stays for a long time and the colors are pigmented. In many ways I like Ruffian better than Julep, but I became a Julep addict!.

I ended up using points and paid about $24 for this box (a total steal) and also got the free add ons, I did order the bracelet freebie, but did not get it, so I will have to contact them. I am very happy with this box!

I like the eyeliner a lot too, although I wasn’t able to smudge it. I loved the polish, and it last for several days with no topcoat. It is funny that people’s preferences with taste and smell vary so widely. I thought the Modern Mermaid smelled like bug spray. I really hope somebody will tell me I am not the only one! 🙂

Email them to send you the cologne! It smells really good! They forgot my eyeliner, so I emailed them and they said they would send it out to me. They’ve always been really good about fixing errors.

aaah… I caved and bought this one today. Its all your fault Liz 🙂
Thanks for your Review and the promo codes. The one for the headphones is what made me get this! lol

also how do you review items from the monthly box for points?

I finally figured out the reviewing thing, myself. Go to the Birchbox website. On the left wide, under “women’s box,” it’ll say “June Box” (it doesn’t yet, but it should switch over soon). If you click that, it’ll take you to the group of products that were in everyone’s boxes for the month. Click on the item you want to review and it’ll have an option to write a review (look near the average star rating). Then just fill out the survey. You don’t have to write anything on the text part to get the points.

Also, I think you can search the shop for your products if you’d prefer to find them that way.

There doesn’t seem to be an easy place to find ONLY the products you got in your box (not like Ipsy). And you only get points for reviewing stuff that you got (not other random stuff). So you have to keep track of it.

Also, you need to do it within a short time after getting the box (definitely before the end of the month).

There’s a much easier way to review the items in your box! At the top of Birchbox’s homepage, hover over “Box”. Click on Women’s Box. It will bring you to a page of the 5+ items that were in your box, so you don’t have to scroll through the Shop. Right now it’s still May’s box, but tomorrow it should be June’s. Hope this helps!

Just got mine based on this! I was waiting for your review to make a decision I was able to use one of the codes, get the sample pack and had $10 in points to use so I got this for $25! Excited for my first LE box!

This was the first Limited Edition box I’ve ever gotten. I’m totally in love with it. Between a discount code and $20 worth of points, I only paid $15 for it! I couldn’t pass it up (and I got a sample pack too.) I genuinely like everything in it (even the perfume, and I normally give away my perfume samples to my friend!) It was such a fun treat!

This was my 2nd BB Limited Edition box & I absolutely love it! I swapped the eyeliner, only because I knew it wouldn’t be a staple in my routine. BB really hit this one out of the park & I can’t wait for their next one. I also got my June box today (early!!!) & it’s probably my favorite so far. Out of the 5 months that I’ve subscribed, I feel like my box keeps getting better 🙂 now I’m just wondering if the hair trio I got (shampoo, conditioner, hair mask) will count as 1 or 3 items. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow

Last month they let me review the 3 hair samples separately. I was able to get 70 points in reviews from one box!

I skipped this one because I have so many of these sorts of items already. Though it does look nice. Maybe if I had had more points stored up, I’d have gone for it. I’ll probably wait to get a limited edition box from them until I have points.

Speaking of which, my regular Birchbox came today and it’s probably the best one I’ve gotten yet.
