New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full size beauty samples, a Beauty To-Go bonus sample pack, and you also get a subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general the value is usually incredible. (FYI – this is a different subscription from the QVC New Beauty Test Tube which ships every quarter).

I sometimes complain about getting too many Mally products in New Beauty Test Tubes, but they are really good products. I’ve been using these shadow sticks for a while thanks to this subscription – they are so easy to use and made me more confident in wearing eye shadow. (After you apply the shadow stick, you have about 30 seconds to blend it until it sets in place).

I’m excited to try this cleansing conditioner too – it seems like a Wen alternative and gets good reviews.

I’m not too excited about either of these items. One of the reasons I love subscription boxes is discovering new products, but these tan towels have been around for years. They do work pretty well though, I just want to try out the newest tanning products!

I also used to get a ton of these Yu-Be samples with Sephora orders, so it kind of feels like a freebie and not a featured product.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask – 1 oz Value $4.95

Jergens BB Body Correcting Skin Cream – 1 oz Value $1.60

Yay – a brand that is new to me! This deep conditioning hair mask is paraben, silicone, and phthalate free, and it only takes 3-5 minutes in the shower. It smells great too – I’m very excited to try it!

Revision Skincare Intellishade SPF 45 – .2 oz total Value $5

These both blended well with my skin tone and gave my skin a nice glow, and I was happy to see that these little tubes were completely full – I can’t find the ingredients anywhere online though!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $70 – including my beauty to-go samples. For $39 I’m not too impressed this month. (The March box had a tremendous value, and lots of products I love, so it’s tough to stack up to that). It seems like every few boxes New Beauty Test Tube will have a month that’s a little less than what I expect, but then the next box is great. (I’m hoping the July box is incredible!) Fortunately there are enough items I’ll use that still make this box worth my money – and I really enjoy getting the New Beauty magazine, so that’s another value.

  1. I agree with everyone. I was not impressed with this test tube and if this next one isn’t good I’m cancelling. I don’t like the fact that the magazine doesn’t come in the same shipment. I had to call 4 times until I finally received the magazine. I kept being told it was shipped out. The last customer service agent got a little rude with me. I’d rather buy the Test tube from QVC for the same price and you get to see what comes in it. You also get the magazine with it.

  2. Well, I have cancelled, for good! This Test Tube is the worst. The sample bag even worse! A wipe, one little wipe and a Coty sample of which I don’t know how many I have received before, but it is a lot. The plastic bag that the samples come in costs more that the samples!!! And the quality of each product just really sucks!! Excuse me for the language but I am heated up over this tube of which I just received today!! Running late aren’t you Beauty TT??? And as far as CS. I won’t go there or I might lose it and that won’t be too nice!!! Just won’t deal with this company anymore. It sounds like they have lost many a customer due to some really bad choices!!

  3. I agree about this being a disappointing month. The Mally eyeshadow is wonderful, but nothing else interested me. Not as high a value as this box usually is. And it’s annoying when they repeat items they’ve featured already. Uggg. Hopefully they’ll make it up to us with a really good next box.

  4. Has anyone else been IRKED by their customer service??? I signed up in April when they had the free Stila bonus sample for new subscribers and when I received the box today I saw that it was missing so I called in. Let me start by saying I am not hard up for a bonus sample, but it was supposed to be included AND this box sucked! I figured at least with that it would have a little more value. Aside from the customer Rep brushing me off because they were “closing in 45 MINUTES” she gave me this run around about how I was supposed to get this special email to get the sample and blah blah and that was NOT what their website said. She then told me she would get back to me on Tuesday when they “looked in on it” because they were closing and they didn’t work weekends… How TACKY can a company be that something as silly as a promised SAMPLE has to be a frustrating experience!!! And considering that I spent almost 40 dollars for this box what’s the big deal?? I then get a reply literally 5 minutes before they closed with some BS essentially calling me a liar which I replied to. If I don’t get an apology and a favorable resolution I am totally canceling. I work WAY TOO HARD for my money to have a company make me jump through loops to get something they promised new subscribers at signup and have said company that I am giving my hard earned money to essentially accuse me that “what I suggested” was a figment of my imagination. Give me a break!!! This is a pathetic first impression!!

    • I totally understand. For my job I work as a liaison between our receiving staff and our vendors when there is an issue with a shipment. I cannot tell you the number of times we’ve been shorted items and the vendor insists they sent it. Like they think we’re trying to pull a fast one on them. I work for a multimillion dollar company that’s the leader of its industry.

      Thankfully most product is over a pound in weight so I can throw it back in their face that the shipment we got was underweight, AKA product missing. We take pictures of everything now. So funny though that they’re all over getting an invoice out to us when I report an overage.

      • I don’t know how companies think that behaving in that manner will keep customers in the long run. Whether the customer rep was trained to respond in the manner that she did or if she was merely trying to brush me off because it was close to closing time ( she did make a point to tell me she couldn’t address my issue because they were closing in 45 minutes) it’s just unacceptable ESPECIALLY WHEN YOURE PAYING GOOD MONEY! As for your company, It’s utterly ridiculous to have to take pictures of everything. Companies seriously have to look into better customer service.

  5. I actually got the Brigeo in my January box and then got a full size of it–it is really that nice. I gave the sample to a friend but I’ve been dying to get my hands on a sample size for when I travel. This was the big highlight of my test tube. The freebie face mask was AMAZING, but seriously? Jergens CC Cream? I got that as a bonus *freebie* in my Birchbox. Mally’s was cool to get, but in blue? For someone with a ‘natural’ look? Ugh. Yu-Bie was a also a freebie I got from Blush in my first bag. I was so disappointed after March’s box I went ahead and cancelled a month early…I was planning on sticking around for one more box. *le sigh*

  6. I got the March test tube from your recommendation, and I really loved all the products and the value. I received an email from them stating that they are listening and understand a lot of people are disappointed. They indicated that they already have their July test tube packed, but they will make improvements. I took the survey to make suggestions.

    I was really disappointed with this test tube. The only thing I was excited to try is the Mally shadow stick, which is amazing by the way. I hope they do more test tubes like the March one. I’ll give them a couple of more chance, otherwise I’m cancelling.

  7. I haven’t gotten mine yet but people are going crazy over this box. Almost every girl in my Facebook group has canceled bc of this box. Not to mention, like 4 of those things girls have gotten FOR FREE! and/or in Ipsy which is a $10 box.

    I picked this box as my Mother’s day present. I’m not happy. I know a lot of people got this for mothers day also. They should have made this a good one bc of mothers day. Then they send an email telling us its the perfect gift for mothers! I would cry if I had sent this to my mother, who is disabled and struggling financially. So sad.

  8. Has anyone else been missing items from the Beauty To-Go bag? I just restarted the sub with March and didn’t notice back then, but I didn’t receive the high-value item, Hydroxytone. Also did not get the Camille or Face Wrap products this time around. I just complained to customer service, so I’ll give them a chance and see what they say, but I’m not confident they’ll be able to make me happy and keep me from canceling. I don’t even think I would miss this sub very much…

    • That has happened before and they just said to me “It is not set on which each consumer receives but random”. I always get like two bonus samples with less than a $5 for each.

      Yeah, this tube left a nasty taste in my month. I am more annoyed that they included tanning sheets [I can’t use because of my darker skin tone] and a BB cream in a Light Shade [which made me look ghastly] If they were going to do send out products like that, they should at least ask people their shade. Now I am stuck with two products I can’t use because of my skin tone.

    • I’ve gotten bad Beauty-to-go samples the last round before. They were just packets and some beat-up lip gloss while others got great samples like Hydroxytone. Seeing what they send out this month, I’m glad that I cancelled. I got the tan-towels from them before, too. Also, the first tube that I got had less products comparing to other subscribers and I thought that it was because I got a promotional code and paid less than the regular price. That was another reason I decided to cancel, I specially don’t like to get less when others get great samples.

      • Yup. I asked why it seems I am a second tier subscriber, and Customer Service wanted to “assure” me that was not the case, that they do not have different tiers. Whatever! They offered nothing when I said that others received much more value out of their To Go bags than I did over multiple tubes, so I am done. There are so many great subs out there (as Liz and our other fellow subscribers are showing us), so I have no more time or money for this one. Didn’t you think the tracking was terrible, too? You’d get the tracking email like a month before your tube was delivered, but the pkg was just sitting somewhere, not moving. They need to get their act together.

  9. Disappointing. Will be canceling. This tube combined with the shipping charge left me definitely wanting for something different. Now, glossy box from April isn’t even here yet and they just charged me for May : /. At least my cate and Chloe sub has been awesome this month!

    • My April Glossybox hasn’t arrive either! And I was also charged for May. I am not worried about my April box, it isn’t the first time Glossybox has been this late for me, but I am concerned my May box won’t get here before the $25 gift card expires!

  10. This box is so lackluster. I’m pretty sure this will be my worst box of May. And I plan to cancel as soon as I get my tube.

    • So I got my tube today and not only was it disappointing with repeats form other boxes, but they actually sent me the *same exact Lumene night cream* they did in my last tube!

      Screw that, unsubbed instantly Not much of a sampling service if they send the same exact items.

  11. I agree! And it looks like there was no variation anywhere, even with the to-go bags. This seemed to be a month they had very few products to share!

  12. I tried out the Mally shadow last night before washing off my makeup and liked how smooth it went out. I have so many palettes of eyeshadow that prior to trying it, I was not too happy. But I put it on again this morning and just loved how well it stayed on. I use that From the Lab lid primer which I LOVE.

    I agree though with your assessment of the box. It was disappointing.

  13. I’m so disappointed as well. Blush mystery has more full size for a lot cheaper, I will be going back to it. I only bought this cause last months looked sooo good and in fact that’s what I thought I was going to recieve but no. What a let down 🙁

    • I agree, this test tube was very disappointing. The Blush mystery box is way better!! I’ve only gotten three so far. but I’m so impressed!
