MakrBox Subscription Box Review – April

MakrBox is a monthly artisan subscription box. Every month MakrBox sources high-quality hand-crafted goods from talented makers and sends them to you. MakrBox kindly sent me this box to review.

The Subscription Box: MakrBox

The Cost: $29 plus $5 shipping for the Classic Box (which I'm reviewing). There is also a Minimalist box for $14, or a Maven box for $59.

The Products: Two or three maker items with WOW factor. More from MakrBox: “We define WOW factor as a mixture of sustainable production, artful craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Most importantly the goods we send must be useful in your day-to-day lifestyle and make your friends say, “wow, that’s incredible, where did you get that!” Our box is for those who appreciate design and know there is always a better alternative to things we use everyday.”

Ships to: US, and Worldwide! (Additional shipping fees for worldwide).

MakrBox Subscription Box Review – April 2014 Cards

Each box comes with cards detailing the items included and the makers behind them.

MakrBox Subscription Box Review – April 2014 Tag

Miishka Handbags Luggage Tag - Value $22

I never thought I would describe a luggage tag as stunning - but that's exactly what this piece is! It's so incredibly well-crafted, and I love the design and colors.

MakrBox Subscription Box Review – April 2014 Flip Side

It's also made with eco-friendly materials and printing processes.

MakrBox Subscription Box Review – April 2014 Honey

Ballard Bee Company 100% Pure Honey - Value $12

This honey has notes of dark cherry, spices, and jasmine!

Verdict: This box has a value of $34 - the exact cost of the box (that includes shipping). I think this box isn't so much about dollar value, and more about discovering new small businesses and makers across the country. At the same time, I'm glad that the items you get are worth the cost of the box! Both of these brands are new to me, and I really enjoyed learning more about the companies - plus I LOVE my new luggage tag. Now I just want to plan another trip to Disney World!

For boxes that are all about the curation and discovery like this, it seems like they payoff if you are really in tune with the curators. If you’re not like minded it seems like it could be a pretty big fail (some of the Quarterly boxes could be a big miss). In this case it seems like it worked out! I’m impressed with the size of the honey, at first it looked like a 1 oz sample.
