Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for geeks and gamers. Each month they include everything from collectibles, to stickers, and sometimes there’s even a t-shirt!

Loot Crate kindly sent us this box to review.

LootCrate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2014 Shirt

Zelda Custom Tee - Value $18?

I think Loot Crate boxes are the most successful when they include a shirt, and this one seems to be a hit on Instagram! (And my husband likes it too!)

LootCrate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2014 Adventure Time

Adventure Time Tin Mystery Pack - Value $7

These tins are a new item from Funko and my husband's favorite item in the box. (If you get a swap request from me for anything Adventure Time, that's probably him!)

LootCrate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2014 Friend Zone

The Friend Zone Soundtrack, Loot Crate pin, and Bottle Opener - Value $5?

Loot Crate usually gets lots of exclusives and little minis for their boxes, so I'm guessing on the value of these items.

LootCrate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2014 Mine Craft

MineCraft Hangers - Value $8

I think we'll end up swapping this item - I know Minecraft is very popular!

LootCrate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2014 Stickers

This box also included two sticker sheets and a tattoo sheet - all designs made exclusively for the box.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $40. I think the May Loot Crate is a good box in terms of value and item variety - like I said earlier I think the best boxes tend to include a t-shirt as one of their items. The only thing missing from my box this month was the mini-mag info card they usually include. (Not sure if they aren't doing those anymore?)

What did you think of the May Loot Crate?

If you pay quarterly and go to leave you can sometimes get a discount on the next three. Definitely worth trying. I unfortunately had to drop my subscription due to financial issues.

My teenager saw this post when I was on the website. He can’t believe that mom missed out on Zelda items. He wants the bottle opener because it is the very first line from the very first video. I am off the waitlist for swap (Thank you!) and am hoping to have something to swap soon for the bottle opener.

I’m regretting this sub as well. The reviews for the earlier boxes looked promising, but so far I’ve been disappointed with LootCrate. The shirt in this box feels like good quality, but the items are poorly made. Also, the figure in my Adventure Time tin was broken 🙁 I’m definitely canceling after my sub ends next month and replacing it with NerdBlox. I’d rather have items that are collectible rather than junk.

My husband wore his t-shirt yesterday–he was really happy with it and wanted me to feel how soft it was.

This was his last box though. I got him a six month sub for Xmas and while he’s enjoyed the t-shirts he’s gotten (they don’t include one every month), but otherwise got bored with the boxes. A three month sub would’ve been better…

I feel like they are starting a trend with their boxes where they are including more and more cheaply made items from Lootcrate Labs. While I applaud them for wanting to make a small swag based business with their marketing idea, the past few boxes have just been very low value to me.

As someone that has been a looter for over a year, seeing the height in Lootcrate Labs items vs Funko and other brand items (the reasons why I became a Looter) is starting to disappoint.

I am giving them until the August (the last of my 3 month cycle) crate to pick things back up or I will be unsubscribing.

I WISH I would have gotten this particular box. It’s peeeeeeerfect. :/ I’m going to subscribe for 3 months. I hope they don’t do another *theme* box like the titan box, lol.

If anything, I’ll get a few things I like and a lot of stuff I can gift to my brother-in-law, plus, it’ll be fun! I want some cute Adventure Time things. xD Or final fantasy!

They sent an email about doing Digital magazines now and didn’t include a hard copy in this box. However they did say all future boxes would get both a hard copy and access to the digital copy. I LOVED the shirt but no idea what i’m going to do with all the stickers and tattoos….would have preferred something else to those. But overall it was a great box!!

Do people prefer this sub or Nerd Block? Nerd block looks awesome to me!! I was a software developer in a former life and these would have made amazing gifts for my team!!

I got my husband a six month subscription for X-mas. Back in December, Loot Crate seemed to have better reviews than Nerd Block, and it cost less, so I went with that one.

I regret getting a six month, instead of three month, sub. It was interesting at first, and he liked the t-shirts during the months that those were included, but after awhile it seemed to be mostly vinyl figures and he doesn’t care about stuff like stickers. He commented too that he felt like they couldn’t decide if they were targeting kids or adults, and in the meantime, Nerd Block created separate subs for kids, so their more recent boxes seem to be more applicable to a grown-up geek!

I received an email that they were doing digital books instead of the printed ones for the Loot Crate boxes. I didn’t get a chance to really read it over yet, though. I agree that they are best when they include a shirt! I’d also like to say they have good customer service.
