Healthy Surprise Subscription Box Review - Feb 2014 Box

Healthy Surprise is a monthly healthy snack and treat subscription box. If you avoid certain foods this is a great subscription box (All their products are dairy, gluten, soy and corn free), and it's a pretty tasty subscription even if you don't avoid any foods!

They offer three different serving size subscriptions - The Starter Box ($40), The Big Box ($60), or the Combo Box ($95). This review is of the Big Box - 16+ full size snacks).

Healthy Surprise Subscription Box Review - Feb 2014Snacks

The Subscription Box: Healthy Surprise

The Cost: $40, $60 or $95 a month depending on box size

These Veggie Pals chews were delicious - probably the healthiest gummies that exist!

Healthy Surprise Subscription Box Review - Feb 2014 Kale

Alive & Radiant Foods Kale Krunch in Quite Cheezy - Value $6

Rawr Bar in Beet-A-Peel - Value $1.50

Buddy Fruits Tropical Coconut Milk - Value $2

I'm pretty sure the Alive & Radiant brand is my favorite for Kale Chips, so these Quite Cheezy chips were a nice addition to the box@

Healthy Surprise Subscription Box Review - Feb 2014 Apple

Just Tomatoes - Value $4.30

Pineapple Snackaroons - Value $9

Bare Fruits Chile Lime Apple Chips - Value $2.50

Lydia's Organics Rawkin' Spicy Beet Chips - Value $7.50

These pineapple snackaroons were probably my favorite new discovery in the box this month - they are SO addictive!

Healthy Surprise Subscription Box Review - Feb 2014 Mango

Buddy Fruits Fruit Bits - Value $2

Oskri Dried Cranberries - Value $3

Just Strawberries 'N Bananas - Value $5

Yogavive Organic Chili Mango Chips - Value $4.49

I always go for the food that most represents candy - so I can confirm that these Buddy Fruits Fruit Bits are delicious - and fortunately they are only made with fruit! These chili mango chips were interesting too - I wasn't sure how I felt about the flavor combination at first, but I managed to finish the bag in one sitting!

Verdict: As someone who avoids gluten and dairy in their diet, this box is definitely worth the $60 cost for me. The value of this box came out to almost $60 exactly, so while this isn't a high-value box based on prices, I think it's a high-value box if you're looking to always have healthy snacks on hand, or if there are certain foods you have to avoid.

Healthy Surprise has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I ordered a box that was never received. After a month of trying, I finally got in contact with CS and they told me that I hadn’t received my box because they ran out of products. I was dumbfounded! How does a company sell its customers something it doesn’t even have? And, when exactly were they planning to notify me of the problem? So I told them I wanted a full refund. Now its three week later, and I still have yet to receive a refund that was supposedly “processed”.
My Advice: DON’T BOTHER, AND SAVE YOUR MONEY

I ordered a 3 month classic box for my sister and her family ($159). They received the first box in December and liked it very much. January came and went and no box. I called the company at least 3 times and no one ever picks up. I did get an email response to say they were working on the problem a couple days ago but no timeline about when my sister might get her January box. It is now February 3rd. They liked the snacks but the cost was high. After the response in addition to that, I would not recommend. I think I will be asking for a refund. Not happy with this company’s customer service.

Ok, so I just got my Health Surprise box that I ordered from Rue La La. The box was the $40.00. From Rue La La, I bought the $50 credit for $25. (I happened to have a $25 credit to Rue La La, but let’s assume I did not, then this box would have cost me $25.)
Here’s the break down:
Taza Chocolate Mexicano Disc (cacao puro)- 5.00
Peter Rabbit Organics (Strawberry and banana)-1.39
Olomomo Cherry Vanilla Dream almonds-2.00 (?)
Not nuts! Seed and Fruit mix-2.00 (?)
Plentils (crunchy lentil chips)-2.00
Lady Jane toasted hemp seeds-2.89
Farmer’s Crate Mango Thins-3.99
Inka Chips Plantain Chips-3.00
Alive and Radiant Kale Krunch-6.00
One bar (apple)-1.00
Healthy Surprise g/c- $25

I was disappointed that there were only 10 snacks b/c HS advertises this box as a 11-snack box. I guess they counted the HS g/c as one item. Without counting the g/c, the total value of this $40 box was around $30. If you include the g/c value, then the box is valued at about $55. This is a good deal as long as you are willing to spend at least another $15 at healthysurprise.com, since the least expensive box is $40.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ORDER FROM HEALTHY SURPRISE. THEY FAIL TO DISCLOSE THAT THEY DON’T WORK ON WEEKENDS (EVEN EMAIL RESPONSE). I ordered a basket over a week early as a b-day gift on the thursday prior to Memorial Day. I had no receipt emailed so I emailed CS and left numerous voice mail messages. Five days later I was sent a USPS link that didnt work. A day after that I was told I had entered the spelling of the street name in error and the box was being sent back. I was traveling and Healthy Surprise offered to GIVE ME A COUPON for a new basked and CHARGE ME TO SHIP IT. Ok. I get that I spelled the street name wrong – but in today’s online world it is not okay to have no CS response for four solid days.

The owner wrote me to see if my issue had been resolved and even after I explained he did nothing to rectify! I will be I’ll have to chase the for my refund – ORDER ELSEWHERE.

Just a follow-up comment. You cannot use the HS g/c on another subscription for yourself. It has to be for a gift subscription. Bleh

I received my first Healthy surprise box this month and I’m on the fence about it. I chose the largest box, the combo, to accommodate my family of 6. While I am pleased with the items sent and the variety of different type snacks, I was a bit disappointed with the quantity. After seeing many reviews and seeing how many items came in the starter box, along with the description on the H.S. site, I really expected more.

I don’t feel that what I received is worth the $100 they charge for this package. Since I receive many other food subscriptions, Nature, Graze, Bestowed, Treatsie, etc. and also have the 3 lbs Munchpak coming every 2 weeks, I may decide to let this one go or change to the smaller sub package at least.

Selection of the box is nice, but as you just break even I’d just as well go to the grocery store myself and pick out what I want!
