Julep Cupid's Mystery Box Review - Makeup Lover Review

A week ago Julep released their latest Mystery Box - the Cupid's Mystery Box, and they had three variations: Makeup, Mani, or Pedi Lover. I decided to go with Makeup Lover. (FYI - the mystery boxes are no longer available for sale, but if you haven't signed up for a Julep Maven subscription yet, use coupon code FREEBOX to get your first box free!)

Julep Cupid's Mystery Box Review - Makeup Lover Items

The Box: Julep Cupid’s Mystery Box

The Cost: $24.99 (free shipping if you’re a Maven)

The Products:  You can choose a mani, pedi, or makeup themed Mystery Box. The estimated full retail value is at least $75.00 for each Cupid Mystery box.

Julep Cupid's Mystery Box Review - Makeup Lover Polish

Julep Nail Color in Lindy - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Nan - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in America - Value $14

I think I already have Nan, but Lindy and America are new to my Julep collection! (Lindy was the new nail polish color released for this mystery box).

Julep Cupid's Mystery Box Review - Makeup Lover Eye Shadow

Julep Neutral Eye Shadow Palette - Value $24

Julep Rock Star Hand Creme - 1 oz Value $7

I received this eye shadow palette in a previous Julep Maven box, and I really like it. And this Rock Star travel size lotion is so cute!

Julep Cupid's Mystery Box Review - Makeup Lover Primer

Julep Blank Canvas Eye Primer - Value $22

Julep Boho Glam Lengthening Mascara - Value $24

I tried this mascara over a year ago when it was first released, and I don't remember being wowed by it, but I'm going to give it another try.

Verdict: I paid $25 for this box and received about $120 worth of products. I'm very happy with the value of my mystery box! (When it first arrived it was so tiny I was worried it was going to be a let down - but fortunately they can fit a lot of makeup into a small box!) And the America polish is perfect timing for the Olympics!

Which Julep Mystery Box did you get?

Did anyone else have a problem with their mystery boxes? My mascara seems dried out, my eye primer was globbed all over the top half of applicator and screw of the cap, and I didn’t receive the cupid’s mystery add on that I paid $9.99 for. Contacting customer service… hope they fix everything for me, but after reading some of the previous comments, I am very worried that they will not even care!

My mascara is very dry looking also. I’m not going to bother since I don’t want to be sent another one. I don’t want brown mascara to begin with.

I wonder why they couldn’t pick out products to put in this box that they haven’t offered recently. I am very disappointed because I have been a maven for at least a year and I have all of these products already, what do I need two of them for, especially if I don’t like them??
I think with the variety of beauty products they offer, they could have give an wider range of products.

I was wondering if I have to be a Maven to participate in the add on’s to mystery boxes? I couldn’t find add on’s anywhere when I ordered my box. I like the Julep mystery boxes but I am not ready for the commitment without the skip options.

I’m not really sure how Julep picks its shipping method but my box won’t be here until the 18th or 19th. That is ridiculous. A few days before ordering the mystery box I cashed in a free nail polish coupon, I bought nothing else. I received my item within the week. I order two of the mystery boxes plus a mystery add on and it takes almost two weeks to get my purchase?
There are complaints on their Facebook page but I am starting to think they are company that does not care. I’m starting to regret prepaying for the May box.

I’ve noticed the same thing lately. I’ve been a Maven for a year now and my shipments used to be under a week. Now they average 2-3+. It’s sad to see it happen but when subs that began as indie companies grow like Julep had, they sometimes lose part of what appealed to their early customers – the personal service touch. The next to go is fast shipping without paying a premium for it. Then prices increase and policies change (see Julep’s new skipping policy that has put off a lot of potential new subscribers). While I understand businesses evolve over time and business decisions are necessary to protect the bottom line, they don’t matter much if you lose your base customers in the end. My last order took almost a month to reach me, and it was the BOGO polish order (only 2 polishes, that was all I ordered). Would have cost about $1.95 to mail USPS directly via priority mail, with delivery guaranteed in under 3 days. Instead it went all over the western US and sat in Utah of all places for over a week (skipped right over NV, like my Popsugar boxes do when they go from CA to AZ then backtrack). I love my Julep but I don’t love handing over my cash and then waiting a month to get what I ordered.

I emailed Julep asking them why the shipping was taking so long because it used to take 2-3 days for me to receive my package… she responded that their fast shipping was a promo we now have to pay for ( $5.99 I believe) and DHL is now the standard free shipping…. not happy about that at all!

Now that I put acrylics on, I wouldn’t mind subscribing for just one month of julep. But then again, I have way too many nail polishes at home that I need to pick what stays and what goes. I am a very picky person.

I also chose the Make up option and got the same colors. I also purchased the mystery add-ons for $9.99. The mystery add-ons are nail polishes- Angela, Kennedy, and Stefani.

I too received the same exact Make up mystery box and the same three colors in your add-on were the same as mine which are three colors I already own. I was hoping for a lip gloss, or lip scrub or one of the new liquid eye shadows. Oh well I took a gamble and it is what it is. Seems like they could offer a better variety among the different boxes seeming as how they expanded their line. I won’t be purchasing another mystery box for awhile.

YAY! Mine arrives next week! So excited! This is the box I ordered and I’m thrilled!

Ohh this box looks lovely. Definitely worth the price, IMO. I’m slightly regretting not purchasing one of these… But I bought 4 polishes from the secret store and just really justify spending the money! :/

That Mystery Box looks great! So many products! I can’t wait to get mine … it shipped over a week ago and still not here..

Mine too! Glad to know that its not that my box is lost. Was getting worried.

A little frustrated, I have to admit. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted so I caved and bought all 3. Two of the boxes (mani and makeup) had the rock star hand creme and two of the boxes (makeup and mani or pedi can’t remember which) had the America polish. I wish there would have been no crossover between the boxes. And I do wish the other polishes had been a little more Valentine colored, although I did get a few colors I didn’t already have and the new ones are very pretty.

I can’t wait for my pedi lovers’ box to get here. It looks like it will take another week or longer with the horrible DHL shipping. While I do think the value is decent, it looks like they just threw in some of the nail polishes that were on sale (2.99 to 4.99) to complete the box. :0(

OMG that DHL shipping is a nightmare. I had one box that sat in Kentucky for a week – and that was during the summer! I almost just quit Julep right then – but my next order arrived in like 2 days. I wish they would quit using DHL – would have loved my valentine’s polish for valentine’s day but will be lucky to get it by St. Patrick’s day!

LOL…I am actually wearing America right now in honor of the olympics! I got it in a mystery box a couple months ago and thought this was the perfect time to rock it! I got the pedi one and got it yesterday. I pretty much love it. I was hoping for the mint condition and sure enough it was in there! 🙂 I also caved last minute and got the mani one too but I am still waiting on that one to arrive. This one looks great too! I am a sucker for these julep mystery boxes!

Great value, especially if you are new to Julep and don’t already have a large collection. I am really glad I didn’t purchase, though! I already have America, Nan, the eyeshadow palette, black canvas and rock star hand creme (though one can always use more of that). Lindy looks great though!
