Julep Maven Review & Promo Code - January 2014 First Look

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month - over $40 retail worth of product for only $19.99 a month.

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month. (It's super easy to skip in your online account - you don't have to call in).

For the January 2014 Julep Maven box I decided to splurge and upgrade to the entire collection. I love neutral shades, and the January box seemed to have lots of neutral shades with enough new finishes to keep it interesting!

Julep Maven Review & Promo Code - January 2014 Ta Da

Ta Da! Quick Dry Drops! - Value $14

Vanish Cuticle Softener & Remover - Value $18

I haven't tried the cuticle softener yet, but I do really like the Quick Dry Drops. (The formula is scented with lavender oil and works great!)

Julep Maven Review & Promo Code - January 2014 Polish Colors

Julep Nail Color in Annemarie - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Hope - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Farrah - Value $14

The Hope and Farrah colors are the new satin finish - from the pictures I've seen on Instagram so far, I think I'm going to love the Satin polishes!

Julep Nail Color in Mona - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Margot - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Abigail - Value $14

I think Abigail is going to be my new go-to neutral shade, at least for a week or two!

Julep Maven Review & Promo Code - January 2014 Resort Collection

Julep also offers add-ons each month at a discount that you can add to your subscription. This month I couldn't resist The Resort Collection ($14.99). I think this was exclusive to subscribers since I can't find it for sale on their site.

Julep Maven Review & Promo Code - January 2014 Minis First Look

It has the cutest packaging, but the bottles are SO tiny! (For reference, the normal Julep nail polish bottle is 8 ml, and these minis are 3 ml each). I think this may be the first time in my life where I actually finish a nail polish bottle!

Colors from left to right: Lani, Anita, Malia and the Freedom Polymer Top Coat.

(I really like their Freedom top coat - it gives any polish a SUPER shiny finish).

Verdict: I'm glad I did the upgrade this month, and I'm also glad I got the mini set - after looking at all those neutral shades I needed a bright polish fix!

What Julep Maven box did you go with this month and what did you think of it?

Got my first Julep box last week and I love it! I got the cuticle oil and it’s exactly what I needed for my dry cuticles that keep splitting. The polishes are gorgeous, and I got a sample of makeup primer as well. I got the box free with the code FREEBOX, but idk if I’d pay $20 for it? I’m going to see how February goes and decide then. I got one friend to sign up so far and I’m begging begging begging all my girls to sign up and earn me another free box!!

This was my third box from Julep and, so far, my favorite. I chose Classic With a Twist (Abigail and Mona), and was able to add Margot for free with my Jules, which was AWESOME. I couldn’t decide which polish to wear first, so I’m currently sporting Abigail and Margot on every other nail. Both are stunning. I love the quick dry drops; they’re effective and the scent is so pretty. The 2 little orange-scented buffers are very handy and create a nice smooth base for the polish. My only regret is not getting the cuticle softener!

New question: when you are given the option to upgrade do they tell you everything in the upgrade or is that a surprise?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

They tell you everything included. Usually there’s an upgrade option for just all the polishes, and another option for all the polishes and products. Hope that helps!

Leigh

Thanks again!

Leigh

I just joined and ordered my first box but was not given this upgrade option. How do I get all this stuff?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

You’ll have the option for the upgrade with the February box. (Announced on Jan 20th). Hope that helps!

Yes, thanks. I guess I’ve just missed out this month 🙁

I heard of this box through my sister and friends. I got “classic with a twist”. Then I also discovered square hue on this website last month and subscribed to it. My square hue first box arrived a few days ago–I have to say, I really like the colors, formula and even the bottles better. The long Julep brush leaves a big drop of polish dripping on my nail.

Got Classic with a Twist plus the Cuticle set. Love the polish colors, but not so fond of the satin finish. SO, For the Abigale satin finish I put a top coat of Vanessa which is a holographic micro glitter. Result is a soft snowy look- which I really like a lot. Have not tried out the other one yet.

I received the Modern Beauty box because I always have ridiculously overgrown cuticles. I absolutely loved the remover. I also got Margot, because I’m a sucker for gold. I’m just sad I didn’t get to pick up the cuticle tool because it sold out so fast. I’ll be on the lookout for it. 🙂

This month was my first box – I actually just discovered the subscription box world while browsing a freebie site where Julep boxes came up! I received the bombshell box based on the survey I took – I didn’t even realize I could choose differently LOL. The 2 polishes I got were Kendra and Zelda – I tried out Kendra today – not really my taste in color, but it looks like a really nice polish, and just opening the box is the most fun part!! I think I’m going to be hooked!

Yay – welcome to the wonderful world of subscription boxes! (It’s addicting! 🙂 )

Just received my box as well and I love it! I also upgraded and the collection is just beautiful. I’m having a hard time trying to figure out which color to put on first. Liz, you’re right about the Resort collection. It’s really cute and really small, but I like it. I’ve never tried the quick dry drops or the cuticle oil so it’s exciting to try them for the first time. Julep once again got me and I love their current collection!

I got the Bombshell box and added Farrah from the It Girl box. Margot is absolutely gorgeous, I used it for some New Years nails!

I got the “Bombshell” set…and I am NOT AT ALL into the “satin” finish polishes. I put on “Mae” and was so underwhelmed. It just looked…blah and messy on me…Like I painted my nails with correction fluid from the office. I put a top coat on so it rescued the color. I guess I’m just a shiny polish type of girl.

I like the drying drops a lot…I am also using the repair serum daily and my skin looks nice…although its a little oily.

Chelsea-
Of all of the colors, Mae looks like it would be my favorite!! If you want to get rid of it, let me know. I have a trade board 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Chelsea

Yes, I am interested in trading…how can we get connected?

I got the modern beauty box this month, really wanted to try both the ta-da and vanish and the cuticle oil was just a good bonus especially since I wasn’t a big fan of the colors. The vanish is terrific, I’m definitely happy with my choice this month.

I love the colors this month and also got the Resort Collection add-on. I’d never tried the Freedom Polymer Topcoat before, and I think maybe my bottle is not the best quality? I tried a bit of it alone on a bare nail, and it didn’t seem shiny at all. I used it as a basecoat instead and was happy with the results there, so at least it’ll go to good use.

I received my box last week and really liked it. I chose “Classic w/a Twist,” which featured the colors Abigail and Mona. Both are really nice. I tried the drops and LOVE the lavender scent. The scent is very strong, but thankfully lavender is my favorite scent. The box also came with two little nail buffers.
