Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Review

Escape Monthly is a "vacation in a box" subscription. Each monthly they send you lots of goodies and souvenirs from a new destination. I think it's a great way to pick a new vacation spot, or merely to do some "exploring" each month without leaving your home. It's definitely a cheaper alternative to a real vacation!

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Italian Items

The Subscription Box: Escape Monthly

The Cost: $49.95 a month ($39.95 a month with coupon)

The Products: Each box is a destination-inspired monthly delivery of luxury products to help you relax, renew and escape.

Ships to: US only

Bonus Points:  Each month, one lucky member will be selected at random to win a vacation to the current month’s theme destination. Escape Monthly will pay for the winner’s airfare from a major US hub and two nights of accommodations, up to $1000. (They announce the winners publicly on Facebook).

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Card

Each box comes with a card detailing the travel destination and it gives you more information on all the items in the box. This month's destination is Italy!

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Books

Living Abroad in Italy - Value $19.95

(They also included a tourist booklet for the Province of Terni). I started paging through the Living Abroad in Italy, and it's really interesting (I like that they cover culture, history, etc.)

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Olive Oil

Olio and Olive Castelvetrano Olives - Value $9

La Civetta Extra VIrgin Olive Oil - Value $2.50

I knew this box would have to include something with olives, but I'm happy to see to olive items! (I love olives, and these vacuum packed one are great!)

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Chocolate

Rigoni Di Asiago Nocciolata Organic Hazelnut Spread - Value $8.35

Perugina Baci Truffles - Value $2

This organic hazelnut spread gets insanely good reviews on Amazon - most reviewers think it's much better than Nutella. (I haven't tried either since I avoid dairy). I'm sure my husband will love it though!

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Skin Co

Skin & Co Truffle Body Gel - 2 oz Value $9

Skin & Co Truffle Body Milk - 2 oz Value $11

I sampled this brand before through Birchbox and I really like it. These truffle scented body care items smell wonderfully indulgent, and they use organic ingredients!

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Almond Cookies

Isiciliami Passione Pasticcera Traditional Almond & Cocoa Paste Cookies - Value $9

Yay - gluten free cookies! These were really good - and I like that each cookie is individually wrapped for freshness.

Escape Monthly Subscription Box Review - Dec 2013 Colorado

On the back of the info card is a sneak peek for January's destination - Colorado!

Verdict: I hope Escape Monthly does more overseas boxes soon. I really felt like a friend had gone to Italy and brought me back some authentic Italian items! I paid $39.95 for this box and received about $70 worth of items. I think everything included was exceptional, so I'm very happy with the curation and the value.

What did you think of the Escape Monthly Italy Box? (And what do you think of Colorado as our next destination?)

Here’s what I got in the Holiday box:

-“The Practical Nomad,” book
– NibMor bars (2) 2.2 ozs each
– Dark Chocolate Dreams (Peanut Butter w/Dark chocolate) 1.15oz
– Mug O’Love Hot chocolate packets (2) 1oz
– Fig Bar (whole wheat apple cinnamon) 0.2oz
– Sciabica’s California Olive Oil (Basil) 3.38 fl.oz
– Yogi Tea ( 2 packets)
– Dr. Singha’s “Mustard Bath” (2 packets) 0.2 ozs
– Enjoy Life “S’Mores” Bar 1.2 oz
– Natural Knuckle Wax 0.7 oz
– Chicken Poop lip balm
– Golden Earth Chakra Oil “Insight” 1/8oz
– Alo “Enrich” drink 16.9 fl.oz

At first, I thought it was a good haul for one box. I have tried the chocolate bars and really liked them. I like most of what I got and will eat/drink/use them. However, I would have liked something “spa-like” since this is a “Holiday box,” I didn’t want almost ALL food items.

I got this box as a sample of whether I wanted to purchase a monthly subscription. I wish it was cheaper, then I would get a subscription, but as of right now, I’ll wait a but and thinking about getting one later on. I have too many already.

I got the holiday box last night and I was super disappointed! Almost all of the items I’ve received in previous conscious boxes…I thought it was supposed to be a box of decedent holiday items from the description…I got a sample of peanut butter. Almost everything was small samples except the book. It wasn’t even travel themed. This was going to be my Christmas gift to myself. I super glad I didn’t gift it to anyone!

I received my holiday Escape box yesterday. It was a lot like what I was hoping the Conscious Box would be when I tried it out (it was all supplements and foil packets, and I happen to work on some consumer protection issues and lobby against the industry…). I got multiples of a whole lot of things, which I figured was because some of the items were missing. But when I checked the packing list there was only one thing I didn’t receive, so they really put a lot into replacing that one item. I don’t want to spoil anything for those receiving it as a gift, so I’ll just say it was a variety of natural/organic problems. I wasn’t sold that it was really a travel theme, but liked the things I received.

I might have to get the Colorado box. Is it easy to get only one box (unsubscribing after one)? I’ll be in Colorado twice in the next few months for work, Denver and Colorado Springs. I’ve never been before and it would be nice to get a Colorado-centric box!

I just checked out their FAQ, I think you’ll have to email them to cancel your subscription. Hope that helps!

A week ago Escape Monthly had an offer on its site to just get the Dec. box for $39.95 with free shipping and delivery by X-mas, so I forwarded it to my new DH with a major hint to get it for me! Hope I get it under the tree! This looks great!

I want to want to subscribe to this monthly, but with it being mostly US destinations, it feels too hit or miss for me in the bigger picture… I doubt we’d ever vacation in Vermont and I have to admit that Colorado is also not very appealing, however I would’ve liked Hawaii and Napa boxes…

I subscribed to TravelBox so I am curious to see how it compares–can’t wait until that ships in two weeks!

It was awesome! Full of snacks, basil olive oil, a drink, a travel book and a couple beauty items. My box top was dented outward because the box was so stuffed! I got 2 (one is a gift for my mom).
