Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Fancy Box is the original subscription box from Fancy.com. It launched in late 2012 and I've been a subscriber since the first box (check out all of my Fancy box reviews).   For some reason I get the second wave of Fancy Boxes (My Instagram searches reveal other subscribers have had this box for weeks!)  Fancy allows you to select which categories of products you are interested in, but lately it looks like everyone  has pretty much the same box with a few variations. (If it's helpful - I selected home and gadgets for my subscription preferences).

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

The Box: Fancy Box

The Cost: $39 plus shipping (my shipping cost is $7.95)

The Products: $80+ worth of stylish products selected by Coco Rocha!

Ships to: US and Canada (additional fees for Canada)

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Each Fancy box comes with cards giving a little background on each product.

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Lomography 110 Color Film - Value $13

Lomography Fisheye Baby 110 Camera - Value $40

This camera is pretty cute and from the shots included on the packaging, it looks like it takes beautiful photos. At the same time - and I know this is lame -  I am so used to just taking pictures with my iPhone and Ollo clip (if needed) that I don't know when I will bring myself to use it. These two items would make an awesome gift, so if I don't use them in the next month or so, they may end up as a present!

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Very Fancy Tee - Value $28

This shirt is fun, but I have so many graphic tees from Fancy that I don't know when I would get to wearing it - this shirt has already been gifted!

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Steve McQueen by William Claxton Hardcover - Value $15

This looks like a nice coffee table book - but isn't really for me. Another item for the gift pile!

Fancy Box Subscription Review - June 2013

Kirkland Bamboo Paper Straws - Value $8

Who knew? My favorite item in this month's box is straws! There paper straws make me want to makes some summer cocktails asap, and I may just end up buying the birch version of these straws too!

Verdict: The June Fancy box was not a big hit for me - I thought every item was cool, but besides the straws, I'm likely going to gift away most of this box. (Hopefully I make myself use the camera though!) I paid $30 plus $7.95 shipping for this box  (I have the original subscriber rate) and I received over $100 worth of product-  Fancy definitely delivered on the value they promise, but this month was just a miss for me. I'll definitely keep subscribing though - every month can't be the best month! What did you think of this month's Fancy box?

I’m sick to death of this box, but I too am hesitant to cancel with my early subscriber price in place..
I got the same items, except the mug instead of the book.
I thought the camera was cute and I would use it on an upcoming vacation. I have TRIED to get it put together and have had others including 2 photogs try-everyone is scared of breaking it! I can’t get it assembled and I will have to email Fancy before I return it as I also can’t get it back to it’s original form, which they say is necessary for an exchange. UGH.
I have PETS checked as well and have never gotten anything for pets..
The price point may have been high on this box, but it was a huge disappointment. It does seem the boxes are close to identical now no matter your choices. The $50 gift certificate was a JOKE!!!
Truly I am done. I will cancel so that I get July’s box, it’s my birthday month and since they ask your birthday I have wondered if you got anything extra because of that. I seriously doubt it, but hey one more month of disappointment won’t kill me.
Truly sad how terrible this once super fun box has panned out!

I was SO disappointed in this month’s box. I religiously read the reviews here about all of the different boxes and opted for the “original” box to get a good variety. This month the only thing I liked were the straws! On top of that, I ordered one box last month thinking I would not be getting another and they sent (and billed me) for this month too. Not super happy about that. Seeing your reviews, I am so mad I didn’t go for the Coco or Tyler boxes. There’s just no way to tell whether the box is going to have that really awesome item or just junk I would never buy for myself (or anyone else). I didn’t subscribe to these to get presents for others…. hehe

110 camera? Really? I worked at a photo lab 20+ years ago, and 110 sucked back then (grainy compared to 35mm). I can’t imagine why anyone would want to bring back 110, except for nostalgia (and when they compare to current digital options, they’ll remember why they ditched it a couple decades ago). Plus, I imagine getting the film processed these days will be a pain in the butt.

Yeah, if you check FAQs it breaks down when certain people get boxes – like, if your original subscription date was between 1 – 15, your box ships at the end of the month; if you subscribed between 16 – 31, your box ships at the beginning of each month. Makes me kind of wish I had subscribed in the second group because I just got my June box yesterday.

I got the tea-steeping mug instead of the Steve McQueen book, too. Do you have “Media” checked as one of your category preferences? Sometimes people who pick Media as a category get cool books. I have Women, Home and Pets checked – I have not once received anything for a pet though, and I still always get Gadgets, so I don’t even know if they pay attention to those.

And yes, the camera and film are fun, but I’m ashamed to say I KNOW I’m gonna be too lazy to get that film developed. I’m actually giving it as a gift to someone tomorrow. And I’m taking the bamboo straws to work for the office break room.

Mine also had a coupon code for $50 off a pair of $250 Lunar Grand shoes (and I think they’re for guys???). If anyone wants it, holler, or you can try using the code LUNARGRAND (seems pretty generic – not a unique code) at checkout at http://fancy.to/lunargrand.

I keep trying to get up the courage to unsubscribe from this box, but sometimes they’re pretty cool. Plus, since I was one of the original subscribers, my price is $30. With my luck, I’d unsubscribe and want to subscribe again – and then have to do it at the $35 price. I will say they’re not thrilling me that much anymore though.

I forgot about that coupon. lol. They have styles for women as well. I’d check out zappos or Nordstrom. I believe Nordstrom has a sale coming up. Even with the coupon though they will probably still be on the pricey side.

Not that the lunar wingtips are really my style. But if you want a pair you should just go to zappos.com and order them as cheap as $148 dollars. The $50 off the $250 price does not seem like much of a deal.

I received everything you did except the Steve McQueen book. I received the tilt tea steeping mug you had received in a Tyler Florence box instead. I’m not subscribed to the Tyler box, so perhaps that’s why you were part of the second wave to receive the box?

Or perhaps it could also be when you subscribed. The original box varies from the celebrity boxes, which all get shipped out at the end of the month. To my understanding the original box is the only one that ships twice based on whether you subscribed on a date before the 15th of the month or after. Whether they still adhere to that, I don’t know, but that would be my guess. lol.

Either way I liked this box a lot! Everything will go to use for once. I’m a change automatically into a t-shirt and sweats kind of girl once I get home, so when I opened my box after work, I instantly put the shirt on. It was super soft, which I adored. I also loved the camera and the straws as well! Overall a win for me.

Oh man, I would have LOVED that camera! I had to cancel my subscription and this was the first month I didn’t get it and now I’m sad that I cancelled!

The regular Fancy Box used to be my favorite variation. It’s not so much anymore though. The bamboo straws would have been my favorite too!
