Sample Society Review - June 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

Sample Society is one of my favorite beauty and makeup subscription services for women - they consistently send out high quality products in deluxe sizes.  My only gripe would be that sometimes I would like to see more makeup products in each box - but usually there is a good balance of skincare, makeup and haircare products!

The Box: Sample Society

The Cost: $15 a month

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty and makeup samples.

Sample Society Review - June 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

Stila Cosmetics Lip Glaze in Kitten - Deluxe Sample Size Value $12

Murad Age Reform Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Eye Moisture - .12 oz Value $15

Yay for full-sized Stila products! This box is already a win for me!

Sample Society Review - June 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

B. Kamins Sun Defense SPF 30 -.5 oz Value $4.50

Philosophy Hope in a Jar - .4 oz Value $8

I saw this B. Kamins product and thought - do I have a lot of B. Kamins samples from boxes already? Turns out I received B. Kamins cleanser in my May Sample Society Box and B. Kamins moisturizer in my April Sample Society box! I like the brand, so no complaints yet - but I hope my next Sample Society box has new brands for me to try!

Illume Desert Tulip Candle Tin - 1 oz Value $4

Verdict: I paid $15 for this box and received over $50 worth of product - Sample Society does not disappoint! What did you receive in your June Sample Society Box?

Great review Liz! I love this box, but for the last two months, everything has been completely covered in this messy black dust. It gets everywhere! My candle tin was open and the black dust got stuck all over the white wax. It was a real mess.

This is my third box from them. The first didn’t have the problem, but the last two have been a mess.

Just curious if anyone else has had this issue recently?

Mine has been too. I think it’s from that stuff they use to package the products. Luckily, it wipes right off. It’s not a huge deal to me, as the box is always a great value. Luckily, none of it was in my candle. The candle smells amazing but I wish it as bigger.

Mine was also covered in black dust 🙁

My box was slightly different. I received the Go Smile teeth whitening kit and the Murad exfoliating cleanser. I wish I had received the B. Kamins sunscreen instead of the Go Smile–the product contains wheat protein so it will go to waste on me.

GAH – I keep meaning to sign up for this box. This one looked cool!

I’ve been getting a lot of the same samples in various subscription boxes, and I’m wondering if the same marketing people are hitting all the subscription boxes at the same time. (I’m in marketing/PR, so I’m always looking at these boxes from that perspective.)

For instance, I think I got the B. Kamins product in my . . . Blush Mystery box, maybe? Yuzen? Ipsy? I can’t keep what I got from where straight anymore. They’re all blurring into one giant box. 🙂

On a random note, I haven’t done a search here to see if you’ve checked out Dumpling Box, an awesome Asian snack subscription box, but I just got an email from them saying they’re shutting down. I think they just didn’t have the subscribers to justify the shipping costs and they also seemed like kind of a small (but awesome) operation.

It made me wonder if these boxes are going to eventually die out like dinosaurs. The decline of my Fancy boxes, as well as the downhill slide of my I-Ella Soho Bag, has made me wonder just how long these companies can come up with fresh, engaging offerings for an avid (and often discerning) audience.

Just some thoughts. 🙂

This looks like an awesome box! I’ve heard Murad is a great brand, but I’ve never tried any of their products. And I love the Stila Lip Glazes (I have Vanilla). 🙂

That’s a great value box. But Caitlin is right. The Stila Lip Glaze is referred to as a “mini” and is worth about $12 (less if you buy them in a set). The full size glazes are wider tubes and contain 0.08 fl. oz. while the mini is only 0.05 fl. oz.

great batch of samples! I want to try more philosophy products but can’t really afford it, I’d be curious what you think of the hope in a jar 🙂 can also always use sunscreen!

The Stila Lip Glaze is not full size. It’s not really a sample size either. When Stila sells a set of lip glazes, they are that smaller size.
