Fancy Box Subscription Review - March 2013 - Monthly Boxes

Fancy box can be hit or miss for me - but fortunately the value is so good that even misses are worth it. I would say this box falls into the hit category!

iHome Portable Rechargeable Mini Speaker - Value $25

Quirky Cordies - Value $15

Yay! Both of these items will get plenty of use. I love that the iHome speaker is rechargeable and just plugs into your computer to charge!

Home Made Cookie Stamper - Value $15

I probably wouldn't use this very much, but I think it will make a perfect gift paired with a gourmet cookie mix!

Gama GO Gold Fish Ice Cube Tray - Value $15

I don't know how this happened, but I have so many random shaped ice-cube trays, and I haven't used any of them. This one probably won't get much use either - it is cute though!

Chunky Knit Infinity Scarf - Value $16

When I first saw this I thought: "No! Not a fall colored scarf - I'm ready for Spring!" And then I proceeded to wear this every day since opening the box. Unfortunately it's still winter, but this scarf is super cozy!

Verdict: This box has a value of $86! I will use or gift everything in the box, so it's definitely worth the $39 to me. Have you subscribed to Fancy Box yet? Are you happy with the items?

I was really disappointed with my (first and last) Fancy box which contained almost nothing that I would use: A t-shirt that was huge despite me specifying (as instructed) that I was a small; a headphone splitter (as someone in my 30s I can’t imagine needing this at all); a compass/torch thing; a pair of socks (probably the best thing in the box) and worst of all, the most cheap and tacky alarm clock which looked like it costed about £2 at a market stall.

I think with hindsight this whole thing is not really for me, however I was disappointed with the quality of the clock which is clearly very cheap, and the fact that my sizing info had been totally disregarded.

This was also my 3rd Fancy box, everything we got was the same, and I was totally underwhelmed! I feel as though I could pick those items up at any store in the mall. There’s nothing ‘Fancy’ about that!
I am also thinking of changing ‘Home’ to ‘Workspace’.
I can’t take any more ice cube trays!
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt because I loved my first 2 boxes.
I actually complained about the content and was given a $25 Fancy Gift Card. Pair that with the $25 off promo and I am trying the Fancy Food Sub. Looking forward to seeing those contents, but a bit nervous waiting on my March Fancy box!

I hate my Pink! Fancy Box. Box full of cheap crap. If Pink! really picked the stuff out, she must be on some serious meds.

I have to agree – I was really underwhelmed by the P!ink box. I’m not going to wear a t-shirt that has a swear on it (not that I’m a prude – it’s just not my taste), the bottle opener is kinda tacky and the body paint crayons are for kids. The only thing I liked was the islands book, which my husband will love. Going to try one more month…

I’ve gotta say that the fancy boxes seem like a real disappointment, and I can’t imagine spending 40 bucks + shipping just to open a box full of ‘witty’ but useless junk. You say it makes up for quality with overall monetary value, but how valuable is the box if you’ll never use the contents? And it’s not like price is a fixed measure – for example you posit the ice tray and stamp as 15 bucks each, when a maximum of 2 dollars of labor and materials went into them. The company that makes the items set the price, so naturally it’s inflated to maximize profit. And I’m sure those to whom you gift the things you don’t want aren’t actually grateful for the clutter…

This is my third Fancy box and the first time I felt kind of “meh” about it.

I had almost the same opinions as you did. Like you, I thought, “What’s the deal with the brown scarf?” (It’s starting to get in the high-60s here.) And then, like you, I proceeded to love it. If only it were in a different color, I’d probably LOVE IT in all caps.

The ice cube tray, while witty, and the cookie stamp will probably get re-gifted. The cord organizer is useful, but not that exciting.

I’m really digging the speaker though. I shrugged when I first looked at it, but once I started using it I was really happy about getting it.

Although I wasn’t that excited about this February box (which I just got a couple of days ago, BTW), the Fancy box is still my favorite subscription box. The categories I selected when I subscribed were Women’s, Gadgets and Home. This box did inspire me to switch the Home category to Workspace in my preferences – I feel like I’ve gotten enough cutesy Home stuff for a while.

I’m curious to see how much the Fancy boxes differ depending on the categories . . . like, what do the people who pick “Pets” get? (I’m tempted to pick that category.) I’m hoping some of your readers who have different Fancy categories will weigh in.

Thanks for this blog – speaking as a fellow subscription box addict, it’s one of my favs! And thank you for the savings code! I used it to give the Coco Rocha Fancy Box a whirl. I’ll probably have to cancel once the full price kicks in, but it’ll be fun to at least see what it’s like.

Wow, my comment is probably as long as your post. Sorry! 🙂
