Birchbox January 2013 Review - Monthly Beauty / Makeup Subscription Boxes & Reviews

Does anyone else get  more than one Birchbox subscription each month? For over a year, I have received two subscriptions so I can sample even more makeup items, but for the past 3 months I've gotten the exact same box! I'm trying to figure out how to keep getting the variety I was used t0 - if you have any tips please let me know!

Birchbox January 2013 Review - Monthly Beauty / Makeup Subscription Boxes & Review

The Box: Birchbox

The Cost: $10 a month (Get a month free with annual subscription)

The Products: Beauty and lifestyle samples.

Birchbox January 2013 Review - Monthly Beauty / Makeup Subscription Boxes & Review

100% Pure Coconut Nourishing Body Cream - 2 mL - Value $.15

100% Pure Vanilla Bean Nourishing Body Cream - 2 mL Value  $.15

the Balm Put a Lid On It Eyelid Primer - 3.7 mL Value Value $5.63

At first I was a little bummed to see the body cream samples were in packaging that resembled ketchup packets, but I noticed on the insert that these are a Beauty Extra bonus, and not one of the featured samples in the box, so I'll let it go! Also, the sample size was more than enough to test out the product, and I'm a fan! The body cream left my skin moisturized but not greasy.

Harvey Prince Skinny Chic - .05 oz Value $2

Clark's Botanical's Smoothing Marine Cream - .5 oz Value $33

I've heard good things about this cream - hopefully I love it since I have two samples of it thanks to my two identical boxes!

Amika Color pHerfection Shampoo - .68 oz Value $1

I love the packaging of this shampoo, plus it's sulfate free and smells great! Also, if you are looking to spend some Birchbox points anytime soon, if you spend $75 or more in the Birchbox shop, use coupon code amikacustom to get a free amika Mini Ceramic Styler in Pink Peacock!

Verdict: The value of this box was over $40, which is awesome. I'm excited to sample all of these products so I'm thrilled with this box, I just wish I didn't have two of them! What did you get in your January Birchbox? Any products you recommend?

How do you know which box # you received? I noticed that someone said they got box # 22 and someone got box #6..I am currently only subscribed to one box but I’m considering signing up for another one for more variety and I’m very curious as to how you see the different boxes available.
Thanks!!

I got a totally different box than you did. Maybe you should copy my profile LOL I don’t know how they decide who gets what. I only took a quick look last night (which is when it arrived) but it looks like an ok box.

Add me to the list of those who have dropped BB. Totally revamped my subs during the holidays as a NY resolution. I had 3 BB subs for me and one for hubby.

I ALWAYS got different things in my 3 BBs. I played with the system. The VARIETY depends upon what part of the month each sub. initially started and renews each month.

You want to space them out by a week and a half to 2 weeks ( if only 2 subs) and vary your profile. I think the date of shipping makes the most difference though.

IMO, like someone else said, Ipsy has stepped up their game SO much that I don’t miss the teeny things from BB. I could usually get three subscription boxes worth of samples into one BB, and it was an easy fit.

I really liked my box this month! I got box 22 – Hot Mama blush, Eyeko liner (black), Harvey Prince Skinny Chic, Rahua Shampoo/Conditioner, and Pur-lisse moisturizer. I hated my box last month, went back and changed up all my settings in the beauty profile, and this month I got a great box. With 6 items to review! For your second box, are your beauty profile settings different? Especially age and income level, those seem to be the ones they really look at. Good luck getting different boxes next time!

I didn’t get a box this month because my debit card number was stolen christmas eve and I forgot to update it. I’ll take your extra box, I’m dying to try the lid primer!!!!

I canceled my subscription today. I gave them four months and the boxes never got any better. I also didn’t receive any of the products pictured above except for the Balm product. If they are trying to tailor the boxes to the customer, they need a system. I’m thinking of trying glossybox and/or ecoemi instead.

After just one disappointing box, I switched from BirchBox to Ipsy/My Glam and never looked back. I like that everyone usually gets the same products with Ipsy. Also, I think I’ve used every single product I got from Ipsy, and the samples have been more than enough for multiple uses.

I have two ideas:

1) With the second Birchbox change your name and profile… leaving only the billing and the address the same. (Example: Instead of Jane Smith … try … Ms. Jane Smith.) Maybe the variance will help?

or

2) Contact customer service and explain your issue. Sometimes going directly to the source is the easiest solution.

If you find a way to get two different boxes please post your findings. Thanks … and good luck.

P.S. I loved my box this month. I received box #6 which included … Frownies – Eye Gels, Juicy Couture – Viva La Juicy, My – Multi-Purpose Mattifying Mosisturizer, theBalm – Put a Lid On It, and Frownies – Rose Water Hydrator Spray (Which I LOVE).

I agree with Amanda. This was my 4th Birchbox, and I’ve not been impressed. What I find odd is that each box I’ve received has nothing that you’ve had in your boxes, and always stuff that I would never use or want. I am giving them one more month as well, and I’m calling it quits.

I was really disappointed in my box. I didn’t get anything shown in the sneak peak and no extras at all. I also didn’t get anything I was remotely interested in using. I’m giving them 1 more month & then I’m canceling my subscription if it doesn’t get better.

I got the lid primer also and LOVE IT! My eye makeup stayed put and looked fresh all day.
