You Can’t Out-Exercise a Bad Diet: Follow My Journey with WeightWatchers

Let me first say that I was never really into fitness. I was always the kid who hated gym class, and as soon as I graduated high school, I pretty much stopped working out altogether. So when my doctor told me that I needed to start making some lifestyle changes to improve my health, I dreaded getting a gym membership.

I begrudgingly joined a gym, and after 3 months of working out for what felt like hours on end, the scale still hadn’t budged. I thought I could just exercise and not change my diet and the weight would drop off. After sharing my frustrations with my friend, she recommended I consider a nutrition plan like WeightWatchers. She was having great success, so I decided to give it a shot!

Signing up was easy (I could do it on my phone) and it made a plan completely personalized to me. I could also link my Apple Watch to the WW app to track my steps and activity.

My WW Lifestyle

To my surprise, all the foods that I was enjoying before I signed up for WW are still allowed on my plan. WeightWatchers has helped me learn proper portion sizes, which allows me to still indulge in the foods I love with the Points system. WW also helps me stay mindful of my fruit, veggie, and water intake throughout the day. When I first started, it was really eye-opening to see that I wasn't getting in as much water as I thought I was!

One of my favorite features of the WW app is its recipe database, which has hundreds of easy recipes with the Points already calculated. If I’m at a loss for what to cook, I can enter the items I have in my fridge into the app, and it’ll give me recipe options that factor in what I have on hand. The other night, we made a delicious Instant Pot Lasagna Soup that even my kids devoured!

WW has also encouraged me to be more active throughout the day. I set a weekly activity goal in the app, and it really motivates me to move more. I've started going on afternoon walks to get my steps in, and it's helping me destress from long days at work.

My Results

Since starting WeightWatchers 3 months ago, I've lost weight and  I feel so much better! Not only have I lost weight, but I've learned so much about portion control and how to cook well-rounded meals. I've been on the plan for a few months now, and I can confidently say that the healthy habits I’ve acquired, like drinking my water and adding veggies to every meal, will be a part of my lifestyle for the long haul.

I'm so glad I decided to give WeightWatchers a try, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to make some lifestyle changes. Now, I don’t have to overextend myself at the gym––I’m seeing results just by eating better and getting my steps in.
