Why No One With Great Hair is Using Shampoo Anymore (And What They’re Doing Instead)

There’s a new trend in the world of hair care. You may have heard about it, but were too busy to attend to this new phenomenon. I’m talking about something called “co-washing.” Why do you keep seeing this everywhere, you ask? Because it really works better than shampooing ever did!

Co-washing is basically washing your hair with a low-foam hair wash, which replaces the need for shampoo and conditioner. After trying the hair co-wash by Geologie, I realized that shampooing was a thing of the past. It has replaced my traditional shampoo and conditioner forever!

Ditch the full-of-sulfates shampoos…

You may think a foamy shampoo is a sign of cleanliness, but actually, it's a sign of damage.

Traditional shampoos and conditioners have tons of foaming agents like sulfates, and sulfates strip natural oils from your scalp, leaving your hair brittle, dry, and prone to breakage. Thus, your hair might not look as healthy as you would like.

I had no idea that traditional shampoo was also messing with my scalps’ ability to continue to produce natural oils. So my hair wasn’t getting all the so-called benefits these traditional shampoos talk about. That’s what I love about Geologie’s co-wash: it’s free of detergents, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, PFO/PFAs or SLS/SLEs, meaning that it doesn’t suds up as much as traditional shampoo, but it’s way less stripping, too.

…and achieve great hair with co-washing!

Co-washing is a natural alternative to shampooing that uses conditioner instead of actual shampoo! While it might seem counterintuitive to getting clean hair, this low-foam formula actually keeps your natural oils in check and moderates oil production to give you smooth, frizz-free hair.

I'll admit that it took me a little while to make the switch because I was so used to the foamy shampoos of my past. But once I tried Geologie’s Cooling Hair Co-Wash, I understood what all the hype was about. I love the Tingly Tea Tree + Menthol combination. It gives you this refreshing scalp treatment that tingles in the best way possible, and it makes my hair look shinier and healthier than ever before!

I often incorporate the Smoothing Hair Co-Wash with Avocado + Coconut Oil to give me a deep hydration treatment. I like to leave it on for 2-5 minutes before rinsing for a quick hair treatment. I’m left with silky-smooth hair that’s Instagram-worthy!

Oh, did I mention you only have to use your co-wash? There’s no need to moisturize after because the co-wash formula is already designed to moisturize your scalp! This has cut down my in-shower hair care routine in half.

Another big benefit is that I haven’t washed my hair as often since I started using Geologie. I guess i what they say is true: healthy scalp, healthy hair!

Wash less, save more

The average person will go through 16 bottles of shampoo and conditioner (8 of each) per year. When you consider products like Olaplex are $30 a bottle, that’s $480 per year! Around 7 pouches of the co-wash will last all year, costing less than $250.

But it’s not just great for the wallet–Geologie’s co-wash is more planet friendly, too, because of its eco-friendly packaging and reduction in plastic waste.

Stop shampooing and start co-washing

Once I gave up on shampoo, I realized how much healthier my scalp and hair were (and how much cheaper my routine was). With Geologie, I don’t worry about harsh ingredients weighing my hair down – plus, it’s vegan, cruelty-free, and dermatologist-tested.

There are plenty of DIY options available. But when it comes to co-washing, I prefer to use something specifically formulated for my hair that’s been tried and tested. And my hair‘s health has already proven to me that making the switch to Geologie was the best decision for me!

No matter what method works best for your hair type, I encourage everyone to think twice before buying into the idea that shampooing is necessary for healthy locks! Get my secret: maybe all your hair needs is a co-wash.
