Have nothing to wear? If you're like me, you probably took stock of your wardrobe and cleaned out your closet in 2020. Whether you sold items online, donated to a charity, trashed pieces that were worn and torn, or simply outgrew them, you're now probably realizing your closet is bare.
Luckily, you've got lots of options, especially if you're still a little uneasy about heading into a department store or your local boutique. So, if you feel like you need to replenish your wardrobe, but you're not quite sure where to begin, or what to buy, a personal styling service like Wantable or Stitch Fix will have your back.
If You Want a Stylist That Really Understands Your Needs... Wantable
Once I completed the quiz and profile on Wantable, I was taken through an ever-growing list of items that matched my style quiz results, and all I had to do was choose my size and then request or decline an item. The clothing was youthful, and fun, and I was presented with many different style options in lots of pretty colors, including pastels. Even though I wasn't 100% sold on all the looks, there were hundreds of pieces and they allowed me to pick and choose what I liked.
Stitch Fix only gave me a few options to choose from when they asked which looks I loved or didn't like. I kept giving the thumbs down to each outfit because I wanted something different, and every time they'd come back with a different variation of the same style. Well, I disliked every look and after about 10 options, they confirmed my style. I took a deep breath and thought, "well, this should be interesting."
If You Want More Items, More Time to Decide, and More Savings… Wantable
While Wantable and Stitch Fix apply the $20 styling fee to your purchases—plus free shipping, returns, and exchanges—Wantable sends out 7 items per box, and you have 5 days to make a decision. Plus, you only need to purchase 5 or more items to receive a 20% discount. Meanwhile, with Stitch Fix, you only get 5 items to choose from, 3 days to make a decision, and the discount is only applied if you purchase all 5 of the pieces sent to you. I really don't like feeling rushed and I'm all about options, so Wantable seems to make more (dollars and) sense to me.
Wantable has a wide variety of options in a dizzying array of colors and styles that are perfect for spring and summer. I spent almost an hour scrolling through their fashion stream, checking out all the trendy and seasonal clothing available to me. I also found the website to be user-friendly, and a breeze to navigate. They've definitely got the shopper in mind! And while Stitch Fix also has lots of clothing, during the initial set-up of my style profile, I was only given a few options, and none of them suited me at all.
If You Want More Well-Known Designers... Stitch Fix
Even though Wantable had better options for me, Stitch Fix has brands I know and love like Alice + Olivia, Kate Spade, and Calvin Klein, but they come at a higher price point. So, if you're looking to save a little money and get more fun and trendy options created by up-and-coming designers, Wantable is your brand. If you'd prefer to rock well-known brands and you don't mind splurging a little bit, Stitch Fix is for you.
If You Want a Fun Unboxing Experience... Wantable
After the past two years of doom and gloom, we're all trying to look on the brighter side of things, and I found Wantable's packaging to be cheery and exude positivity. Inside the Wantable box, I discovered peach and white packaging, a fun welcome note, and seven neatly folded, ultra-soft items in yellow, green, white, red, black, and peach. It was like opening up a box of sunshine.
With Stitch Fix, the packaging was kind of dull. I get that they're probably trying to be sustainable, but everything was rolled up in a ball, and looked like they wrapped up the items in paper grocery bags and then smacked a sticker on top.
The Winner is... Wantable
Although this will ultimately depend on your own personal style, your budget, and how pressed you are for time, I chose Wantable as the winner because it's a little less expensive, the items are more fun, the styling process is easier and more comprehensive, and I like that they automatically send you 7 items instead of 5.
