Trifecta vs Freshly: Which is Right for You?

If like me, you are feeling lazy about cooking (and struggle to even decide what to cook), you have come to the right place. I’ve been on the hunt for the best pre-made meal delivery service for the last few months and narrowed it down to Trifecta and Freshly. I have a new favorite that I’ll be sticking with, but here’s how you can know which one is right for you:

If you want the most balanced & healthy meals…Trifecta

One thing you should know about me is that I have a huge sweet tooth. I love any dessert food and eat it after most meals. Because of this, I’m always looking for the healthiest options for my actual lunch/dinner. With Trifecta, I know that every meal they send me will be nutritionally balanced because they are created by dietitians who are focused on the right macros. I know I’ll be getting all the protein, vegetables, and everything else I need from each meal. It’s easy to stay on track with the Trifecta food tracker. And if I have any questions, I have access to nutritionists who are there to offer support and guidance.

With Freshly, I found myself browsing the nutritional facts of every meal to try to find the ones that seemed the healthiest, but still not sure if I was always choosing the right ones. It’s nice not to have to think about this with Trifecta.

If you want the most delicious meals…Trifecta

Obviously, taste is going to be a huge factor in your decision about which meal service you should try. I don’t know about you, but I’m always trying to eat the most delicious food (which could explain my aforementioned love of desserts), and for me, Trifecta was the easy winner here. I could really taste the whole foods and the balance of ingredients. I actually felt encouraged to try flavors I haven’t before. Like the Aji Amarillo Pepper Chicken, which is seasoned with Peruvian spices and finished with a spicy green herb sauce.

With Freshly, I found myself consistently putting on a lot of salt to bring out the flavors of the meals, which my blood pressure might not love me doing on a consistent basis.

If you want the cheaper option…Freshly

If cost is the most important factor to you, you might want to go with Freshly. Trifecta pricing starts a $110/week for 7 meals ($16/meal), while Freshly pricing starts at $12.50/meal for 4 meals a week. I did find Trifecta’s portions to be a bit more generous than Freshly’s, which left me feeling more satisfied. In either case, I came out well ahead on what I would have spent on takeout / eating out, but Freshly is the winner on price.

If you like to eat organic or have more dietary restrictions…Trifecta

All of Trifecta's meals are certified organic, and they have options for Whole 30, Keto, Paleo, Vegan, and Vegetarian. You can accommodate pretty much any diet or dietary restriction with their meals.

While Freshly has individual meals that may meet some of these restrictions, they don’t have entire meal plans, so your options may be more limited. Additionally, Freshly doesn’t use organic ingredients, so if this is important to you, Trifecta may be your best bet.

The ultimate winner: Trifecta

For me, I’ll be sticking with Trifecta. I like that I don’t have to think about going through each meal on the site every week to find the one that might be healthiest for me, and I love the taste. Although it’s a bit more expensive, it’s still saving money (and time) from what I would otherwise spend.
