Tia vs. One Medical: The Healthcare Clinic That Meets My Needs

While health and wellness are important to me, I find it very hard to keep up with regular doctor visits. I know I should go to the doctor more… But your girl is busy. I'm bicoastal, bouncing between New York and LA, which makes finding a doctor, scheduling an appointment (if there is availability), attending that appointment, and following up a near impossibility.

That’s why I was intrigued when I found out about Tia and One Medical. These membership-based medical clinics make going to the doctor a lot easier with online scheduling for in-person and virtual appointments on your schedule. But which one is right for me? Here’s what I discovered.

If you’re looking for whole body care...Tia

Tia is truly a one-stop shop for all your wellness needs. You have access to primary care providers, gynecologists, mental health providers, and acupuncturists all in the same clinic. What’s more, your care team is all on the same page with your information shared across providers, so you’re getting coordinated care for your physical, mental, and reproductive health. Tia is open to anyone, regardless of gender or sex but Tia’s integrative care team specializes in women’s health.

One Medical is more your typical doctor’s office where you can only see your primary care provider and you’re referred to another location to see other providers like mental health providers and gynecologists. While they also advocate for a holistic health approach, it’s not as integrative as Tia where you can also find treatments such as acupuncture, cupping, and massage.

If you’re looking for a more affordable option… Tia

Tia has a membership fee of $15 monthly or $150 for the whole year, which is less than I spend on my Netflix subscription! With this membership, you can book appointments at any Tia clinic across the US. As someone who’s bi-coastal, I really appreciate this feature. Speaking of insurance, Tia takes almost any PPO or commercial insurance, and anyone outside of that bracket is able to self-pay or be a cash-paying member. Tia even makes their pricing transparent with a published price list (good luck finding that at other places).

Meanwhile, One Medical costs $199 per year. You can also visit any of their clinics across the US and they accept most insurance.

If you’re looking for same-day appointments… It’s a tie!

One major benefit that both Tia and One Medical offer over typical doctor’s offices is that you can make same or next-day appointments. With a Tia membership, you can make same-day appointments for urgent care-like issues, like a surprise UTI, and your Tia Care Team is available on-demand to answer health questions, make appointments or help with insurance. It’s like having a personal assistant for your health. With One Medical, you can make same or next-day appointments, in person or over video, from your app. Both Tia and One Medical offer unlimited messaging at no additional cost.

If you’re looking for a spa-like experience… Tia

Tia’s facility is warm and inviting and lacks that cold, clinical feel of your standard doctor's office. The design feels bright and colorful but also somehow female-centric without being a Pepto Bismol pink Barbie dream world stereotype. Tia has literally thought of everything. You feel almost at home walking in. There are books in the waiting room to read, and at the Silver Lake, Los Angeles location there's an amazing balcony with a beautiful, serene view that gives the space a calm, almost meditative vibe.

Another major win for Tia is the luxurious designer robes they have available at their in-person facilities. Gone are the days of a standard paper gown. I never thought about it before, but the flimsiness of those gowns really does make you feel vulnerable as opposed to comfortable and relaxed. They also have adorable socks available so that you don't have to put your feet on the cold exam room floor.

The Ultimate Winner…Tia

Personally, I prefer the whole-person health approach of Tia. It just makes me feel more comfortable and safe. With all the versatility and the ability to personalize your healthcare, Tia is revolutionizing a new everyday approach to wellness. As a woman, I would recommend this to any woman looking for a better, more mindful exam experience.
