Whether you’re 22 or 65, hair loss doesn’t discriminate. If you’ve fallen victim to watching your hair swirl down the shower drain, just know you’re not alone, because many brands out there have gone to great lengths to help you get your mane back on track.

In this winner-takes-all battle, Vegamour, Olaplex, Nutrafol, OUAI, and Rogaine are squaring up to take the crown for best product to help treat hair thinning. If you're curious which brand helped me take my hair xx , keep reading!

The Mane Players

Vegamour has been on my radar ever since it launched in Sephora, and I’m a fan of their plant-based ingredients & products that are formulated without harmful chemicals. OUAI is known for its scalp & body scrubs, but also has a scalp serum.

Rogaine is the household name for men’s hair loss, but they also offer products for women. Nutrafol offers hair growth supplements for women made with medical-grade, natural ingredients. Lastly, while Olaplex doesn’t have a comparable hair loss treatment, they’re known for bond technology that repairs damaged hair.

Round 1: Efficacy & Simplicity

Vegamour: Those who’ve tried the GRO Hair Serum report 76% less shedding and a 52% increase in hair density over about 5 months, and I definitely noticed less shedding after using it for a couple of weeks. The serum is applied topically to the scalp just once per day.

OUAI: OUAI boasts a similar performance to Vegamour, but their thinning hair products are best used in a duo. OUAI has both a Thick & Full daily supplement plus a scalp serum, so it’s a two-step process.

Rogaine: Rogaine is known to be effective, but minoxidil can be controversial. Also, the women’s 2% minoxidil solution is applied twice per day, and that second application is just something extra to worry about.

Nutrafol: Nutrafol claims that 80% of women have experienced better hair growth & thicker hair, and I’ve definitely seen results. I have to dock them points for being a 4-pill-per-day regimen, plus, you should take the pills with a meal.

Olaplex: I felt like my hair was stronger and shinier when I used the No. 4 and No. 5 shampoo and conditioner, but still experienced shedding and my hair wasn’t any thicker.

Winner: Vegamour

Round 2: Variety & Maintenance

Vegamour: Vegamour makes it easy to incorporate lots of different plant-actives to stimulate hair growth. Vegamour’s range of shampoos, conditioners, dry shampoos, and more in the GRO, GRO+, and HYDR-8 lines make maintenance a breeze.

OUAI: OUAI offers both a scalp serum and a supplement, and they’ve got tons of hair products such as an anti-dandruff shampoo, clarifying shampoo, and more. Most of their products aren’t specifically formulated for thinning hair, though.

Rogaine: Rogaine doesn’t offer much by way of variety, given they only offer two different kinds of minoxidil products–a 5% minoxidil foam, and a 2% topical solution.

Nutrafol: In addition to the Women’s and Women’s Balance supplement, Nutrafol has a shampoo & conditioner, hair serum, and scalp care, plus a travel set.

Olaplex: While Olaplex has lots of variety in their products, they don’t directly address thinning hair concerns.

Winner: Vegamour & Nutrafol

Round 3: Natural, Toxin-Free Products

Vegamour: Vegamour’s plant-powered products are formulated without sulfates, parabens, keratin, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. Vegamour’s products contain a proprietary vegan alternative to keratin called Karmatin, and they’re also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free!

OUAI: OUAI products lack sulfates and parabens, but contain keratin and synthetic fragrances. OUAI is a P&G brand and is not 100% vegan.

Rogaine: Rogaine contains minoxidil, which can bring its own slew of potentially concerning risks such as irritation, scalp itching, or burning. Rogaine is a Johnson & Johnson brand and is not vegan.

Nutrafol: Nutrafol has a vegan version of their Core supplements, but not all of their products are vegan. Nutrafol products are Clean at Sephora, which means they’re formulated without “phthalates, formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasers, oxybenzone and octinoxate, and more.”

Olaplex: Olaplex is non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free, but their active ingredient is a chemical compound called Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, so personally, I wouldn’t call their products “natural.”

Winner: Vegamour

Round 4: Subscription Options

Vegamour: Vegamour has a flexible subscription model, which allows subscribers to choose their frequency and pause, cancel, or update their sub anytime. You’ll save up to 26% when you subscribe & save, and Vegamour always offers free shipping.

OUAI: You can auto-replenish OUAI products on Sephora’s website, though I don’t see an option to do this on OUAI’s site. Plus, you’ll only save 5% when you subscribe through Sephora.

Rogaine: You can subscribe & save 20% when you buy on Rogaine’s site, and you’ll also get free shipping on all orders.

Nutrafol: Nutrafol’s savings depend on the supply you order. For example, you’ll save 10% on a 1-month delivery, 15% on a 3-month sub, and 20% on a 6-month sub. You’ll also get free doctor consults when you subscribe.

Olaplex: Olaplex offers subscription options through their website and through Sephora’s Auto-Replenish feature, but you won’t save any money when you subscribe on their site.

Winner: Vegamour

The Conclusive Winner: Vegamour

We’ve decided: Vegamour is the best choice for starting your hair growth journey. It’s clinically tested ingredients are effective, it’s plant-based, and it’s easy to use. Plus, the savings and perks you get when you subscribe are pretty amazing. It’s time to start replacing your current hair care with Vegamour’s GRO collection…thank us later!
