We had a great party when my mom turned 70 last year. It was wonderful to have all the family together to celebrate and share stories. It was particularly special to hear about my mom’s life, including stories that I’d never heard before. I had an idea to write some of this down, but I wasn’t sure how to start that process. It just seemed kind of daunting, and I wasn’t sure that Mom would share her memories in the way she had at the party. So I was really glad when I found out about My Life in a Book.

This is a subscription that can help capture a life story, so no details are forgotten. Once a week, My Life in a Book will reach out to your loved one to ask a question about their life. It’s a great way to connect with parents and grandparents, sparking real conversations and finding out more about the people you love.

An accessible way to share memories

I chose the starting date when Mom would receive the gift — her 71st birthday! Thereafter, she received every Monday a question to help her write her life story. (The information is stored in their database and encrypted, so only we have access to it.)

Mom was touched that I wanted to know more about her life. She was a little hesitant at first, but when I explained the straightforward process to her and told her that this would be used to make a beautiful, glossy book that would be treasured by me, my kids, and my siblings, she was intrigued. And she soon got really into it!

We used a combination of my own questions plus questions suggested by My Life in a Book. That, and the fact that the questions were asked on a regular weekly basis, meant that she never felt stuck about writing down her story. We covered so many special moments and important parts of her life, all prompted by interesting questions – some of which I probably would never have thought to ask, like, “What is one of the greatest challenges you’ve overcome?” and “Do you have a childhood secret you never told your parents?”

Mom shared great stories and photos. In fact, I think she was more open to answering the questions from My Life in a Book than she would have been if I’d been asking her myself.

A personalized book

The book can be up to 428 pages long. But it’s totally customizable, so we get to decide when enough questions have been asked and answered. Photos can also be added to some or all stories.

You can choose from six templates to create a cover that reflects your loved one’s personality. Then just add their name, a fitting title, and a photo — I’ve found a lovely photo of my mom and my grandmother — and then you'll have a glorious, unique book ready for printing!

The standard price of $99 includes a one-year subscription and a stylish book. Additional copies cost just $30, making them affordable to share with other members of the family.

My Life in a Book comes with a 100% money-back guarantee. From my experience, I highly doubt you’ll need it, but if for any reason you or your relative aren’t satisfied with the result then they will give you a full refund, no questions asked.

It has been a really fun and bonding experience for me and my mom. I got to learn more about her and help her to create an amazing legacy in a book.
