Swapping Coffee for MUD\WTR: A Skeptic’s Honest Review

It’s not easy to break up when you’re in love. Especially when that love is coffee. Did you know that the average American spends about $1,000 per year on coffee? And if I am honest, that’s pretty low if you asked my bank account.

For years, I needed coffee.

I started my day with it. I enjoyed a cup of joe during the day when I feel like I’m fading. And if I felt frisky, I’d even have one before bed just as a “you work hard-treat yourself” reward. Jitters, insomnia, and all, coffee was a strong part of my life. I couldn’t imagine drinking anything better. ☕️

Alternatives I found ranged from the classic suggestion (caffeine-free tea) to the slightly more modern (blends made with mushrooms and herbs, like MUD\WTR), but if I’m being honest, none of them really appealed to me as a long-time, veteran coffee drinker.

My Long Term Fling Came to a Close

Like all relationships that can’t last–I began to see the writing on the wall for coffee and me. It’s one thing to want a nice latte to get the day going, but it’s a completely different situation when you constantly feel like you need coffee.

I was too dependent, and I really began to notice how coffee was making me feel physically. The crashes and jitters slowly began to become more and more prevalent as I drew closer to our breakup. And these crashes would have me down and out like I pulled an all-nighter.

Ultimately, I knew what I had to do, though even the thought of breaking up with my beloved coffee made me anxious.

Enter MUD\WTR

It was a rough few weeks of withdrawal until a friend sent me a TikTok about a company called MUD\WTR, known for their coffee alternative made with a blend of organic herbs, spices, and mushrooms, with no-to-low caffeine.

I’d seen some ads on social media, too, but I never entertained it as a valid replacement for coffee until my friend sang its praises. I’ll admit, I was pretty skeptical. I could tell that I was missing out on something without coffee, but I wasn’t totally convinced MUD\WTR was the right choice for me.

Man, was I wrong.

From that very first sip, MUD\WTR offered me what I really needed from coffee: jitter-free energy all day long. I was again able to feel productive and fully alert without the hard crash hours later. Plus, I was surprised by how tasty it was. I top mine with steamed oat milk for a chocolatey-chai latte vibe.

My Beautiful New Relationship

This may sound hyperbolic, but I’ve got to say it: MUD\WTR really changed my life. I know, I know. But here’s the thing: coffee may have felt good, but it wasn’t doing me any good.

Ultimately, MUD\WTR is a healthier morning ritual. Beyond the lowered caffeine and satisfying taste, it's organic, non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free, with USA-grown mushrooms.

One of the main things I love most about MUD\WTR is that they have blends for morning, afternoon and evening rituals. This is a major win! Too many times to count, I struggled to sleep all because I had a medium coffee heading home from the office. But now, I have a unique blend, :rest Rooibos, that helps me unwind and recharge every night.

So Long, Coffee

Overall, I’m so happy that I broke it off with coffee, and I realize now that my relationship was unhealthy all along.

Now, I’m in a much better situation. I am happy, full of energy and haven’t had the jitters in who knows how long. I still see coffee from time to time. I say hi.

But, sometimes you have to realize that the alternative is so much better.
