Calling all fellow dog parents! If you’re anything like me, you get overwhelmed with the amount of choices there are for… well, everything. And choosing dog food is no different. There are a ton of brands out there, and when I started shopping, I knew I wanted to provide the best for my rescue, Jakes. That’s why I decided to test two popular pet food subscriptions, PetPlate and Ollie, to see which would be best for him. Here are my thoughts:

If you don’t want to worry about playing tetris in your freezer… PetPlate 🎮

We’ve all been there; you stock your freezer to the brim, and the second you open it, everything comes crashing down and makes a mess. And if you’ve really been there, you know how annoying this can be. That’s why one of the things I love most about PetPlate is that the food comes in easy-to-store, stackable containers. No more jamming everything in and slamming the freezer door shut behind me before things can fall! Now my freezer is organized and Jakes’ food is easy to find.

If you don’t want smelly, leaky bags in your fridge… PetPlate 🫙

Another thing I love about PetPlate is their resealable packaging. It makes for easy serving and storing leftovers in the fridge. Ollie has a storage option with their pup-tainer, but it requires you to dump the leftovers into it—which can get messy and smelly. With PetPlate, I just scoop, seal and store—super simple!

If you don’t want to wait hours for your dog’s food to defrost… PetPlate ⏲️

You could microwave the meals from both PetPlate and Ollie, but PetPlate meals come in a microwaveable container. All I had to do was pop it in the microwave and Jakes was good to go. With Ollie, I had to let the food defrost before I was able to transfer it into a microwave-safe container and heat it up. This took a lot of time that I don’t always have, so PetPlate was a real time-saver for this busy fur mama!

If you’re looking for quality, fresh food… Either or 🌱

Both PetPlate and Ollie offer pre-cooked food that’s vet-approved and made in a human-grade kitchen, and they each have different options. For example, while Ollie offers entrees, PetPlate has options for treats, supplements, and even a Topper Plan that allows you to mix fresh foods with your pup’s current food if you’d rather make a slow transition than an abrupt change. No matter which brand you choose, though, you can rest assured knowing you’re giving your fur baby food that is high quality and nutritious.

If you don’t want to waste food… PetPlate ⚖️

Every dog parent knows that their dog is unique, so their meals should be tailored to their specific needs. PetPlate understands that and offers pre-portioned meals that are tailored to your pup’s weight and other nutritional needs. Ollie also offers pre-portioned meals but they aren’t customizable like PetPlate’s. I have peace of mind knowing that I’m giving Jakes exactly what he needs, nothing more and nothing less.

If you don’t want your wallet to hate you… PetPlate 💰

Even though we can all agree that no expense is too great for our fur babies, we have to consider budgeting when we’re looking at their meal options. First off, starting out with either brand will give you automatic savings since they both offer around 60% off your first order. You also have to keep in mind that pricing depends on the type of meal plan you sign up for based on your fur baby’s nutritional needs, but, in general, Ollie is more expensive. PetPlate meals start at around $3 a day compared to almost double that price at Ollie. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, PetPlate will be your best bet.

And the winner is… PetPlate! 🏆

Both Ollie and PetPlate are great options for fresh, pre-portioned meals for the cutest member of your family. However, when I compare what I get with each subscription, PetPlate is the clear winner. The resealable packaging, pre-portioned meals, microwaveable containers, and easy storage make it more convenient and practical for dog parents. It’s been a real game-changer for Jakes and me!
