As a self-proclaimed curvy girl with a sweet tooth, and now a mom to four kids, maintaining a healthy weight has always been a challenge for me. I have tried so many different apps, meal plans, workout styles, and of course, gym memberships, but none of these attempts have been particularly successful. The only time I really did well was when I worked one-on-one with a coach who held me accountable and had me track my meals and workouts, but it was so time-consuming.
After seeing that WeightWatchers could offer me the accountability I needed with the ease of an app, I decided to give it a try!
It’s been two weeks since I joined and here are my first impressions:
Personalize your diet
WW offers tons of guides and information about getting started. They gave me a certain number of food Points® for each day along with a weekly allowance that I can spend however I want. The idea is that I don’t have to give up the foods I love in order to lose weight and I am 100% all about that! I love that they really personalize it by allowing you to pick your ZeroPoint™ foods that don’t take away from your daily allowance. These are hearty foods that can keep you from feeling hungry and as someone who loves whole wheat pasta, I was glad this was an option!
Easy to track meals
One huge plus is the app has a pretty incredible catalog of foods and so far, I haven’t had to manually enter any of mine. My favorite feature by far is the barcode scanner! I simply scan whatever I am eating and then enter the portion size and it figures out the Points value for me. This is so much easier than apps I have tried in the past and I can see actually sticking with this since it is so very simple.
Meal planning made easy
Another area where WW excels is in the ability to plan your meals out ahead of time. Meal planning is one thing I despise, but the app makes it incredibly easy. Not only can I add one of the many recipe ideas from their site, but I can also add foods from popular restaurants if I plan to eat out one night. Planning ahead means I can eat something with fewer points during the day and save up for that dinner out!
Convenient, user-friendly app
First of all, the WW app is comprehensive and has everything that you need to be successful; a food tracker & recipes, an activity tracker & workout videos, articles for encouragement and education, and even a sleep tracker with a sleep playlist. It is like they took every app you could ever need to help encourage healthy living and they put it into one easy-to-use app. I can even link my FitBit which is one less step for me (or maybe it’s 10,000 more?).
Accountability is something that I have found to be so important to my weight loss journey and with WW I have multiple ways I can achieve that. As a workshop member, I can attend live coach-led Workshops that take place in person or virtually. There are workshops scheduled 7 days a week, day and night, so it’s easy to find something that works with my busy schedule. I can also live chat with a coach 24/7 or reach out to others in the community to share my struggles or get advice or encouragement.
I attended my own first in-person meeting and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it! It was short but sweet and members spoke so highly of the community they had built and even attributed their success to it. It felt like a welcoming place to celebrate little milestones with others on a similar journey or to reach out for advice in person from people who actually live near me and know our area.
For now, I am going to keep it simple: drink water, track my food, use the workout videos on the app, and attend some workshops whether virtual or in person, to help keep me accountable. I know this is just the beginning but I’m feeling confident that with WW I have all the tools to reach my goals and become the healthiest version of myself. Join me and let’s do this together!
