5 Lies & A Truth Hair Loss Edition: Common Myths Debunked & What Actually Works

Raise your hand if you've ever played 2 truths and a lie? 🙋 Well buckle up because we're about to play a game real similar, it's called five lies & a truth. Here's the deal, I've struggled with male pattern baldness for 15 years in the making.  I've seen it all and heard it all, and frankly, I'm sick of all the fake news out there about the b word - yeah I said it - BALDNESS.

If you struggle with any form of hair loss or thinning - that's okay! There are many solutions out there that can help, and even more rumors and misinformation. Let me clarify a few common beliefs that simply aren't true, so you can be one step closer to finding a solution that works for you. For me, that solution is Keeps... but more on that later.

Lie #1. ❌ You’re halting your hair loss with vitamins

đź«Ł Hair loss vitamins only help those who are experiencing a deficiency of that specific nutrient

When I first noticed signs of balding on my own noggin, I comforted myself by taking vitamins that the Internet told me would slow my hair loss. It took a few years to realize they weren’t actually helping, which led me to seek the knowledge that hair loss vitamins only help those who are experiencing a deficiency of that specific nutrient. And, as it turns out, I wasn’t.

It’s a good idea to get to the bottom of your hair loss patterns and causes before self-prescribing a potential solution. This 1-minute quiz is a great place to start.

Lie #2. ❌ Rogaine is the only way to treat hair loss

đź«Ł Keep's product line is more extensive than Rogaine's with options tailored specifically towards your need

You know better than to go straight for the biggest brand name without comparing it to other options. And Rogaine does have a decent product, but not nearly as thorough of a line as Keeps. When you break it down, you’ll see that Rogaine’s 5% Minoxidil topical is more expensive than the Keeps version, and as the only product Rogaine carries, it offers a limiting experience.

Keeps covers you with hair-follicle-stimulating shampoo and conditioner, topical drops and foam, regrowth styling products, and more. All for a really great price.

Lie #3. ❌ Your mother’s father is to blame for your baldness

đź«Ł Genetics play a role but not just your maternal grandpa's

I was told that the fate of a man’s hair is determined by his paternal grandfather’s genetics by so many people that I didn’t question it. The truth is that genetics are a lead cause of hair loss, but the trait can be inherited from either side of the family. If you’re curious about some specifics, check out this article about genetics and hair loss.

Lie #4. ❌ Testosterone is chasing your hair away

đź«Ł Testosterone is getting a bad rap! It's DHT that could be to blame

Wear your manhood proudly, my dude. Despite what you may have been told, elevated testosterone levels are not to blame for baldness. Rather, male pattern baldness is affected by a hormone called DHT. For the scientific among us, this stands for dihydrotestosterone. Depending on how your body reacts to its own levels of DHT, your hair follicles might shrink, preventing new hair to grow where its former strand has been shed.

Lie #5. ❌ You don’t have to worry about baldness until you’re old

đź«Ł Unfortunately, baldness had no age limit

That would be cool. In reality, many men see the first signs of male pattern baldness before age 35, and a higher percentage experience significant hair thinning by the time they’re 50. Once hair loss starts, it doesn’t stop, but it can be slowed significantly with a variety of approaches through Keeps. They have options for topicals and supplements that can be worked into your routine, and they also offer hair restoration services for those who are further on their journey and looking for larger scale hair solutions.

TRUTH: âś… Keeps is here to help with hair loss

Now, this is fact. If you, like me, are a helpless observer to your hair’s gradual exodus, you need to get on the Keeps train. Their products are clinically proven to treat hair loss, and they’re FDA-approved, which is a comfort.

There’s something for everyone: Minoxidil, the most common and least invasive approach; Finasteride, which is taken orally; and a line of thickening shampoo, conditioner, and styling pomade that grace your noggin with a boost of hair follicle stimulation. They’re all affordable solutions and have a long list of success stories attached to them. For me personally, I find them easy to use, and my hair started looking fuller after just a few months.
