Is Nutrisystem’s Hype to Be Believed? Here’s What Happened When I Tried It

When you say Nutrisystem, the first thing that comes to mind is that my mom did it in the early 90s. Because of that connection, it feels dated to me, but I hadn’t really looked at it in recent years – untilI decided to start my own weight loss journey.

I thought that Nutrisystem would be bland frozen meals and a dated website, but I have been pleasantly shocked at how appealing the food is and how modern the app looks. Here’s what happened when I got my first two weeks of Nutrisystem.

Success Stories… Overhyped Or Legit?

Every weight loss plan and app comes with a slew of success stories, like people losing over 100 pounds in a matter of months. It always felt way too good to be true (and in many cases, it is).

And for me, I don’t need to drop loads of weight. I’m just looking to shave off about 25 pounds, which I’ve accumulated after three pregnancies and too much late-night snacking. And hard seltzers. With some extra vodka added. Am I really being this honest?

Anyways, I like that Nutrisystem and its success stories aren’t overpromising. They say you should expect to lose between 1-2 pounds per week. This isn’t some unattainable, unsustainable crash diet. Because of Nutrisystem’s realistic, science-backed approach, it definitely made the shortlist.

A System That’s Easy to Follow

In the past, I’ve found myself spending way too much time weighing and measuring, and I just burn out. It goes like this: it works for a while, and then I burn out and give up on it.

During that time, I put back on the few pounds I was able to lose. Because of that, my post-baby weight has been pretty stagnant, and it’s frustrating! I want to fit back into the jeans I wore before having my first baby four years ago.

Part of the appeal of Nutrisystem is in the name: it’s a system. And it’s easy to follow. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinners are shipped to you, mostly frozen, and you just scan the meal in the Nutrisystem app, called NuMi.

And to make things even easier, all the packaging is color-coded. Breakfast is yellow, lunch is blue, dinner is red, and snacks are purple. Just grab the color you need, scan it in the app, and eat! If you have a problem with staying on track or being tempted by sweet (or salty) junk food, the regimen of Nutrisystem would likely be perfect for you. There’s less thinking, less planning, and less opportunity to want to give up.

Nutrisystem Is Surprisingly Worth Considering

I never thought that after trying Nutrisystem, I would want to continue. But I actually plan to keep going until I finally drop these extra pounds. Let me tell you why:

The food has been delicious, the app tells you what to eat and when, and I’ve continued to stay motivated. I haven’t felt as hungry as I expected, and that’s because Nutrisystem’s food is high-protein and low-glycemic, which controls hunger and helps manage blood sugar levels. The food is seriously delicious, too. Frozen meals get a bad rap! Meals like Red Pepper Chicken and Pasta Sauté are creamy and filling, and the Italian Sausage and Turkey Pepperoni Pizza tastes like a cheat meal, it’s that good.

I also haven’t felt deprived at all, even during the optional “Fast 5” week, which is your first week on the plan when you eat just 1,000 calories per day. After that, SmartAdapt takes your height, weight, and lifestyle into account and determines your ideal calorie goal. Mine is just under 1,800 calories per day, which is totally sustainable. It’s kind of hard to feel deprived when you get mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches!

I’m Excited to Get Started

I’m only a few days in, and I’ve never been this excited to be on a new program. I’ll definitely be updating this with results in a couple of weeks!

At the end of the day, Nutrisystem is probably more affordable than you think, and it’s a system that’ll keep you motivated and on track to get that extra weight off for good.

The app is amazing, the food tastes good, and you don’t need to expend mental energy on prepping healthy meals. If you think of your parents when you hear Nutrisystem, think again. This program is definitely worth considering, and I can’t wait to have a success story of my own.
