I Thought This Calming Drink Was a Placebo Until I Tried It

I’m not a regular mom. I’m the tell-it-straight kind of mom who wakes the kids up with a comedy routine. I’m skeptical of wellness trends, and if something promises to "realign your energy," I’m already halfway out the door.

So when I first heard about Ü Relax by Calming Co, a calming adaptogen drink aimed at moms like me looking to swap their nightly wine for something healthier, my inner voice cackled.

But curiosity got the better of me. I’d been trying to cut back on my evening pour of red wine so as not to form a harmful habit. I figured, worst case, I’d sip this plant potion and end up exactly the same: mildly irritated and doom scrolling at midnight.

What happened instead surprised me.

It works faster than I expected (and…it works at all)

I mixed a packet of Ü Relax with cold water. Just 6 ounces, which is barely more than a few gulps. And braced myself for disappointment. But within minutes, I felt a shift. Not a buzz, not a crash, just… a gentle quieting. The background noise in my head—the to-do lists, the spirals of worry, the "did-I-send-that-email?" brain chatter—just dimmed. Like someone turned the volume down without asking first (thank you, mysterious someone).

The calm actually lasts

I assumed, if this did anything, it would be one of those flash-in-the-pan effects that disappear faster than a toddler with your eyeliner. But nope. That first time, the calm vibe lingered. For hours. I watched an entire show without picking up my phone once. That never happens. By the time I got into bed, I felt light. Not sedated, just… peaceful. Like my thoughts were clouds   floating instead of bricks falling.

It doesn’t feel like a crutch

I’m wary of anything habit-forming. I don’t want to rely on a product to function, especially as a mom. But Ü Relax is drug-free, non-habit forming, and doesn’t contain any of the junk I typically side-eye: no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no weird chemicals I can’t pronounce. It’s vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO. Basically the opposite of a sketchy pill or a syrupy mocktail with a hangover's worth of sugar.

Plus, it’s formulated by an actual PhD scientist using clinical dosages from real studies, not just sprinkled with trendy buzzwords. Respect.

It legit tastes good (and I’m picky)

Flavor-wise, I expected grass. Or sadness. Instead, it was citrusy and smooth, definitely drinkable, and shockingly pleasant for something functional. I’ve choked down plenty of wellness shots that tasted like regret. This? More like something I’d keep in my bag on purpose.

It made me a better version of myself

That sounds hyperbolic, but hear me out. I wasn’t trying to transform my life with a drink. I just wanted to unwind without reaching for a glass of wine. But  Ü Relax gave me more than that. It gave me space. Room to breathe. I wasn’t just “not drinking,” I was enjoying something that made me feel better than the wine ever did. Calmer, clearer, more present. More like me, before the world got loud.

Well, then,  Ü Relax it is

So yeah. Consider this edgy mom officially humbled.

I came in expecting snake oil. I left with a new nightly ritual that doesn’t leave me foggy, guilty, or craving more. If you're skeptical too, I get it. But maybe  Ü Relax is the real deal. And if it can convert me, well... let’s just say there’s hope for all of us.
