I Had Doubts Whether This Oil Could Improve My Dark Spots. Did it Work?

We’ve all been there: hyperpigmentation and discoloration seem to pop up out of nowhere, and you’re not sure how to even begin addressing it. Whether it be sun exposure, hormones, inflammation, age, or just plain genetics, it’s a frustrating experience when dark spots crop up in places that come face-to-face with the outside world, like the underarms, bikini line, or neck.

As a woman of color, I’ve experienced my fair share of uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and texture, so I’m no stranger to buying products that claim to be the ultimate solution for hyperpigmentation. But, frankly, a lot of these products I’ve purchased over the years have proved unsuccessful.

So, I had some major doubts when I came across Bushbalm’s Bermuda Dark Spot Oil–was it really worth adding yet another ineffective product to my already-large skincare arsenal? My curiosity won out and I had to put it to the test. Here’s what I found.

How the Bermuda Dark Spot Oil Works

Right away, I was attracted to the fact that Bushbalm’s Bermuda Dark Spot Oil is made with a blend of some of my favorite oils, like jojoba oil, grape seed oil, lemon peel oil, and tea tree oil. These hero ingredients are natural exfoliators and brighteners, and it’s awesome to see Bushbalm fighting hyperpigmentation in a completely natural & vegan way.

The benefits of this oil are pretty expansive: it claims to soothe redness and treat ingrown hairs, fade dark spots, heal scarring, and overall soften the appearance of hyperpigmentation over time. To use, add a few drops onto clean skin, and massage until it absorbs. Bushbalm advises that it’s best to use right after showering or bathing.

Bushbalm’s ingredients list and claims are impressive, but the real question remains: did it turn this serious skeptic into a believer?

My Experience

I have highly sensitive skin, so the first real test was whether the oil irritated my skin or not. When I applied Bushbalm's oil to my underarms, I noticed how quickly it absorbed into my skin, along with the delightful scent (the hints of lemon smell amazing, like a tropical vacation!). Even though it’s an oil, it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly greasy, which I really appreciated. You only need a couple of drops–no need to go overboard!

I’ve also found that this product is pretty much perfect for anyone who trims, grooms, or removes hair on their body. In addition to combating discoloration and hyperpigmentation, it also calmed the inflammation leftover from shaving near my bikini area–this was a fringe benefit I wasn’t expecting! It’s really moisturizing, too, and my skin needs all the hydration it can get.

Bushbalm says it takes about 1-3 months to see a noticeable difference, so it’s not an immediate change. However, I’ve been exfoliating and applying this oil to my areas of concern, and in a few short weeks my underarm discoloration has become noticeably fainter.

It's Actually Amazing, TBH

I have to admit–I was a nonbeliever going into this. I’ve had so many experiences where oils, creams, and serums targeted at discoloration & hyperpigmentation ended up being nothing more than a glorified moisturizer (and a lot of them are expensive). But Bushbalm magically created a product that smells great, calms my inflammation, keeps ingrown hairs at bay, and most importantly, fades hyperpigmentation naturally. I can’t wait to continue using Bushbalm’s Bermuda Dark Spot Oil to see the amazing results over the long term!
