How Little Spoon Keeps My Very Picky Kids Happy & Full

My kitchen: the place where I give myself the most pep talks of any room in my house. It’s where I calculate every little preference and request my kids have into one masterpiece of a meal that, in the end, often gets pushed away. It can feel impossible to please everyone!

Desperate to find an alternative to serving my daughters butter pasta every day, I asked my local moms group if anyone had any ideas, and Little Spoon got a resounding recommendation. I’m here shouting it from the rooftops because I can’t believe I nailed it on the first try with Little Spoon. Read on for the details.

Hidden veggies make this “kid food” nutritious

The joke’s on me, because in my effort to avoid all the classic picky eater foods that kids like, it’s exactly what I ended up putting on their plate—but it’s a secretly healthy version.

Little Spoon’s Plates for toddlers and kids exquisitely mask butternut squash and carrots in their mac ‘n’ cheese, they tuck tiny bits of kale in turkey patties, and they serve sweet potatoes in tot form. Genius. This is kid-friendly food that’s junk-free and nutritious— I feel great about serving my little ones. And the best part is how quickly it comes together, heating up in 60 seconds.

Healthy options for every age

One of my daughters will only eat broccoli, and the other won’t touch it. I know this sounds easy: give the one kid broccoli and the other one a different veggie. Friends, I am one woman. This is not a sustainable daily practice—except with the help of Little Spoon. I can customize what’s on each of my daughters’ plates to their tastes without laboring over double prep.

This same concept extends to families who might have a larger age gap between siblings: Little Spoon has Babyblends for the earliest eaters, making it easy to introduce a variety of purees as baby’s first food. As they’re ready for combos and textures, they can advance through the 6 stages of Babyblends until they’re ready for bite-size chunks they can feed themselves. That’s where the new Biteables come in. Yep, Little Spoon even saves you the chopping with these meals.

Expanding palates, one little at a time

The stress of feeding children isn’t limited to mealtime—finding them a snack that will fill them with the nutrients they need is a circus, too. My new favorite trick for this is giving my girls a little spread with cheese and crackers and such, plus a Smoothie pouch. Inside are organic fruit and veggie blends, some with yogurt; none with artificial sweeteners or added sugar. It’s through these pouches that my kids were exposed to sunflower butter and golden beets for the first time.

Turns out they like them, at least paired with pureed fruits! I never would have thought to offer these healthy things to them, and their growing bodies are all the better for having them.

Little Spoon is always on the menu now

Do I still cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner for my family to eat together? Of course I do, and my heart gets broken on a regular basis as my meals are frequently turned down. But now with Little Spoon meals in our fridge, we have a built-in breakfast or lunch and a backup option for dinner that is enjoyed by my children 100% of the time. It saves me so much time and makes everyone happy. Sometimes we’ll each have a Smoothie for dessert—yes, even me—and in those moments I sit back and smile that my daughters can finally agree on something they both love.
