How I Hacked My Shower and Suitcase Routine With These Sustainable Hair and Body Wash Bars

Looking to effortlessly elevate your travel toiletry game? I have an idea for you. Ditch the bottles and opt for solid bars instead!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been to a hotel and have been truly disappointed with the toiletries provided. I’ve definitely been there. Especially when it comes to hotels in the middle of nowhere while I’m out and about on one of my adventure trips.

They’re made with potentially irritating ingredients, the chemicals dry out your hair and body, and those little single-use plastic bottles are plain bad for the environment. What a struggle.

The obvious alternative is to bring my own toiletries. Now I know what you’re thinking. Just go to Target and pick up those travel-size bottles from the travel section! Well, I used to do that, until I learned about Long Wknd.

Trying Out Long Wknd’s Plant-Based Bars of Goodness

A friend of mine told me she’d started subscribing to Long Wknd and raved about the results, calling them “plant-based bars of goodness.” Honestly, I’m so busy that the idea of getting monthly shipments of sustainable self-care essentials sounded like a great idea. Plus, I was intrigued by the idea of these toiletries being plastic-free, TSA-approved, less messy, and cutting down on limited packing space. So I checked out their site and started with their Sustainable Shower Swap bundle, which includes their Balance Shampoo Bar, Balance Conditioner Bar, and Body Wash Bar.

Let me tell you, Long Wknd’s plant-based shampoo and conditioner bars are literally my new favorite way to keep my hair clean and healthy while on the go! These bars are made with natural ingredients and are super easy to use. Just lather up (a little goes a long way) and rinse out. The conditioner bar moisturizes and detangles, leaving my hair incredibly soft, shiny, and frizz-free. The body wash bar smells SO good – it’s naturally scented with organic clays, oils, and aloe – and gently exfoliates and keeps my skin soft.

What I love about these sulfate-free bars is how they’re so much more concentrated than other water-based formulas out there, so you end up using less product overall. Plus, they last way longer - one bar is equivalent to 80 washes. That’s like three full months of continued use in one single bar!

The shampoo and conditioner bars are also much gentler on your strands since they don't contain any harsh chemicals or sulfates. This means they won't strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it healthy and shiny while still removing build-up.

And of course, given that it’s waterless, gone are the days of messy suitcase spillages and bulk while packing. These little nuggets of convenience are easy to stack and take up nearly no space at all which is why I love them for my carry-on-only travel (which is pretty much all the time).

Sudsy Meets Sustainability

I first started using these bars for messy-free travel, but honestly, I’ve reinvented my entire at-home shower routine too.

Not only is my bathroom so much nicer looking without random bottles of shampoos and conditioners popping out of every corner of the bathtub, but I love that I’m more sustainable and reducing any negative impact on the earth.

My hair has never been this clean, soft, and shiny. I definitely know what I’m going to be gifting all my friends and family this holiday season!
