How I Crate Trained My Puppy in Just ONE Week!

When I adopted my sweet Golden Retriever, Oakley, I (naively) thought crate training him would be a breeze. Any dog parent knows that assumption was way off.

A year later, it was still a struggle to get Oakley to go in his crate—he got so nervous and uncomfortable. Traditional wire crates can also be unsafe (you want to keep your fingers, right?), are really hard to collapse, and are restrictive.

I started asking my friends about a better way, and more than one suggested I check out Diggs Pet. Here’s how the Revol had Oakley loving his crate in just ONE WEEK:

The Revol crate grows with your puppy

Oakley’s a Golden Retriever, so I knew he was going to grow FAST. One of the first things I learned in my crate training research was that it’s important for dogs to have adequate space to feel comfortable and safe in, but nothing too big!

There are 4 sizes: Small (for dogs up to 30lbs), Medium (50lbs), Intermediate (70lbs), and Large (90lbs).

I've struggled with basic crates before because of how frustrating they are to transport. The Revol comes with handles, collapsible walls, and wheels to simplify traveling with a dog–this was one of the biggest selling points for me. It also has a removable tray for easy potty-training.

Look how easy this is–just rotate the ceiling handle 90 degrees and lower:

The Revol—in addition to being so easy to set up—comes with a puppy divider and 3 different access points (front, side, and through the roof), which feels less restrictive to Oakley, calming his anxiety. This meant Oakley’s Revol could keep growing with him—which saved him stress and saved us money!

The Groov training aid helped Oakley LOVE his crate time

Part of why it was tough to get Oakley to enjoy his crate is because there was no real reason for him to want to be in there!

As soon as we replaced Oakley’s old crate with the Revol, he immediately liked it better—but we needed an extra to help him get him to love being in there. That’s where the Groov Training Aid comes in.

The Groov is a training tool that encourages licking and snaps right into the side of the Revol crate. I just add peanut butter (Oakley’s favorite), attach the Groov to the crate, and he can’t get in there fast enough.

Pro tip: if you freeze the peanut butter-covered Groov it makes it last much longer, which can be more enticing for your pup!

It’s not just a training crate, it’s Oakley's lifelong home

I love the Revol Crate because—in addition to high-end materials and an ultra-portable design—I don’t have to worry about buying Oakley a new home every few years.

Editor's note: The Revol retails for $375, which is more expensive than most basic wire crates. However, the "grow-with-your-pup" design, safety features, and how nice it looks in your home increases its value. You'll save money on extra crates and vet bills!

Diggs also goes above and beyond to manufacture their products to the same rigorous safety standards as baby products, which is more than I can say for his old crate! The Revol is pinch-proof with no sharp corners or non-toxic materials–it's so safe.

Since the Revol will be Oakley’s home for years to come, we wanted to make it as comfortable as possible—and the Diggs Pet Snooz Pad worked like a charm! Made of CertiPUR-US® Memory Foam, the Snooz Pad is lightweight and fits perfectly in the Revol. Plus, it's machine-washable and tear-resistant.

Diggs has the best crate system out there!

I am so glad I discovered Diggs Pet and their crate training system. I can confidently say the Revol Crate has taken Oakley from struggling puppy with crate anxiety to fully crate-trained adult. As if that wasn’t enough, the durability, portability, and stylish design of the Revol are a big bonus for us humans, too!

If you’re looking to give your fur baby the best crate around, I can’t recommend Diggs Pet enough–they’ve been a complete game changer for us. Now if you’ll excuse me, the king of our house has demanded a walk…
