5 Things To Look For When Choosing Your Next Side Hustle

It’s a tale as old as time: you need a new tire, your kid ends up in the emergency room, or an unexpected bill demolishes the checking account. So, you do what any responsible adult does: you look for a side hustle.

There are plenty of opportunities out there, but not all are a perfect fit for your lifestyle or income needs. In an effort to be intentional about my next gig, I landed the one that I think benefits everyone: being a food delivery driver. As a driver, I make hundreds of dollars per week–enough to pay the bills and then some!

Here were five things I made sure to look out for when searching for my dream side gig (because when you find The One, it changes everything):

#1: Flexibility and the ability to be your own boss 🧘‍♀️

Have you ever not wanted to be in control? Ok, ok, maybe you’re less of a control freak than I am, but when it comes to my work schedule, I desire to have real flexibility.

That’s why I’ve fallen in love with being a food delivery driverI can work when I want, wherever I want. Because I juggle 7 other hats (like being a mom and creator, to name a few), that’s a huge win.

#2: Great pay 💵

I didn’t search for a side hustle just for the thrill. No, I’ve got bills! So, when I kept running into side hustles that were only offering $12-$15 an hour, I was pretty discouraged.

But a fellow food delivery driver friend recommended that I try driving, and I’m so glad I did–I’ve been able to earn up to $25 an hour, which includes tips. Win!

#3: A seamless hiring process ✅

Show me one person who loves job hunting–I’ll wait. You apply for 43,000 jobs, hear back from only 5, get two interviews, and end up in a job you never really wanted to begin with. Can anyone relate? Well, I’ll be the first to say that I was looking for a hiring process that was E.A.S.Y.

Most gigs wanted me to jump through the same ol’ hoops--except for the food delivery driving job. I signed up in minutes and was working in just a few days. Seriously, less than a week!

#4: Year-round work ❄️

Many of the side hustles I looked into were only offering temporary, part-time, or seasonal work. Personally, I needed something that had the possibility of being consistent, long-term work, and being a food delivery driver checks this box. People always want to eat, so I’ll always have a job!

#5: Money in your account, whenever you need it 💰

Getting paid quickly is almost as important as how much I get paid. Wouldn’t it be nice to get paid daily, weekly or even INSTANTLY? I know–it should be the norm, right?

Well, since I’ve become a food delivery driver, this is my new normal. The days where I’ve had to wait 2-4 weeks for the money I’ve earned over a month ago are gone. Now, I have the luxury of working and getting paid on the same day.

TL;DR: You should become a food delivery driver 🚗

So, if it’s not clear, my life has been so much better since I became a food delivery driver. The money is good, it comes fast, I choose my schedule, it’s consistent, and I started almost immediately.

If you’re trying to curb stress when LIFE starts “lifeing” again, take it from me: delivering food for others is a great way to rake in the dough. Now, excuse me, I’m about to go enjoy some retail therapy with the cash I made earlier today!
