First-Time Pet Owner? Don’t Make this Mistake.

I vividly remember sitting at the kitchen table with my mother, discussing the idea of my husband and I getting our first dog. But as any good mother would do, she gave words of caution: “just remember, dogs can be costly, vet bills can add up quick!” Honestly, we didn’t realize that even if you do have a fairly healthy pet, routine visits to the vet will add up fast. So, if you’re a first-time dog or cat owner, Wagmo’s pet wellness plans need to be on your radar. More on this below:

About Wagmo’s Wellness Plans

From the first week we brought our dog Finn home, I realized for the 1,000th time in my life that “moms are always right” and the vet is expensive. After we got Finn, there were a slew of costs associated with being a new pet parent that we didn’t realize: pups and kittens need up-to-date vaccinations, an exam to ensure they’re in good health, routine blood work, and more.

Fast forward through additional fecal tests, a urinalysis, and a grooming accident, and there went a few thousand dollars out of our pocket over the last six months!

My husband and I rely on health insurance, so we thought “Why not have one for Finn, too?” We found that Wagmo’s wellness plan was the perfect fit for our family for several reasons. For starters, the wellness plans are great for puppies and kittens because it zeroes in on preventative care to set your pet up for success and avoid surprise costs that go along with all their new, routine care.

For starters, things like routine exams, vaccinations, routine labs and fecal tests are all covered under Wagmo’s wellness plans.

There are even options within the wellness plan umbrella if you want more coverage! The Value Plan ($20/month) is ideal for healthy pets that need an annual check-in with their vet. This plan covers things like:

  • 1 yearly routine exam
  • 2 vaccinations/year
  • 1 routine blood work/year
  • 1 fecal test per year

The most popular Classic Plan ($36/month) covers all of the above, plus:

  • 1 extra vaccination (totaling 3/year)
  • Flea/tick/heartworm medication up to $100
  • Grooming up to $100

Lastly, the Deluxe Plan ($59/month) is my favorite for puppies, because it covers everything you’ll potentially run into as a new pet parent:

  • 2 routine exams/year
  • 4 vaccinations/year
  • 1 routine blood work/year
  • 1 fecal test/year
  • 1 urinalysis/year
  • Flea/tick/heartworm medication up to $200
  • Grooming up to $200
  • Dental care up to $100
  • Expert, 247/365 VETalk advice and pet education (24 chats)

I have the Classic plan, and I love that I’m no longer spending an arm and a leg on Finn’s grooming costs. I used to spend almost $100 just for a nail trim and wash & cut, but now, it’s all covered under Wagmo.

Wagmo Saves You Time & Money

It quickly became clear to me that not only are you left feeling safe and secure that you have insurance for an emergency, but you'd be spending this money anyway (and then some!) on routine visits, vaccines, prescriptions, and more. What's even better, you can choose any licensed veterinarian in the USA, submit the claim and get reimbursed within 24 hours for wellness claims. It's literally that easy.

Essentially, I'm paying less to get everything I already had to pay for and am gaining peace of mind. To me, the math is mathing.

I feel like I can rest a little better at night knowing that we're being financially savvy with our routine and preventative pet care. My husband and I wish we’d known about Wagmo sooner before spending thousands of dollars on vet bills! As a first-time pet owner, don’t make the mistake that we did by paying hundreds of dollars for one vet visit, which could be money used towards months to even years of a pet wellness plan. I’d highly recommend considering Wagmo’s wellness plans for your dog or cat!
