MEL Physics “Electric Motor” Review – April 2021

I have to admit, this  MEL Physics box was probably not my favorite. Not only could I not get the LED to light up, but also the motor didn’t run as it should have. Since those could both very well be my fault, I won’t let that affect my judgment too much, but I was disappointed there was no bonus experiment this month like there usually is, and in the fact that I had to provide the batteries. I just feel like at $34.90, batteries should be included! This could definitely just be a personal opinion though. Otherwise, the box still had a lot to offer in that it was well organized, the way the experiments built upon one another was logical and the materials seemed to be high-quality. Overall, it was another great educational experience, but there were just a few different aspects that kept this from being one of their better boxes!

MEL Physics “Rheoscopic Fluid” Review – March 2021

We had such a great time with this MEL Physics box! The experiments were really cool and the rheoscopic fluid was certainly mesmerizing! I loved that the experiments built upon one another and that we ended up making something that we could keep and use again and again. Plus they gave us enough (other than the glycerol) that we can perform some of these over and over again. The materials were engaging and educational and best of all for me, the instructions were clear and simple. The box was really well organized and I was pleased that the only thing we needed to supply was water. I also think it’s great that there is a bonus experiment for us to try at a later date, too. Overall, this box was a hit for us!

MEL Physics “Polarized Light” Review – December 2020

This MEL Physics box contained some fun mess-free visual experiments that really helped us to understand polarizing light. I love that we get to see exactly how it works, and even though my kids are a bit younger, they thought it was really cool and I’m sure what we learned here will come in handy in the future when they are old enough to fully dive into this concept. I like the way this box is organized and how the experiments build upon one another. I also think it’s cool that they include a bonus experiment. That being said, I don’t know if this box feels like as great of a value as previous boxes we have received since there were so few components. Although, it does make sense that this would vary each month since there is such a broad range of physics concepts that they cover. We’ll have to see what next month brings!
