How Almost Tea Works

Almost Tea partners with a different regionally-loved dessert maker each month to turn their best desserts into tea! Each tea gets the stamp of approval from the original dessert maker prior to production – meaning all the teas match the flavor profile of an amazingly delicious dessert, without any of the sugar, artificial sweeteners or calories.

Inside their flagship product (the monthly box) there are 30 tea sachets, featuring 6 NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN tea blends and a mini-magazine inside every box, featuring interviews with our dessert-maker, creativity prompts, and other fun surprises.

Start a guilt-free tour of bakeries around the US by placing an order for a subscription box, featuring a new bakery collab each month. Interested in just one tea? You can order that, too!

Founding Story

In 2014, Monique Zauner met the man who would end up being her husband. Three months after they met, they started their first business together, Universal Yums. Universal Yums sends a box of snacks and candies from a different country every month. Cool idea! It’s about the most fun business you could ever start, except there is this one small downside, which is - if you have a very massive sweet tooth, you’re going to struggle having a warehouse full of EVERY CHOCOLATE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.

About five years into running Universal Yums, Monique started drinking a cup of tea whenever she had the urge to go into the warehouse for her second chocolate bar of the day. It worked! Monique drank lots of chamomile tea and by the 34th cup she turned to her husband and said, “Why can’t I try more interesting tea? I’ve had mastic candy and haggis chips! So why do we only get Earl Grey or sleepytime tea? Zzzzz.”

Say hello to Almost Tea. They're making the world’s most crazy creative teas, inspired by a different dessert maker every month. For their first month, they partnered with Brownie Points, a sisters-in-law-owned company from Columbus, Ohio. Almost turned their coolest flavors into INCREDIBLE, zero-calorie, no-artificial-sweeteners, TEA.

Is Almost Tea Worth It?

With more than 1,500 subscribers within the first month of launch, this brand is poised to take over tea time. As a brand new box, it’s pretty early to make any broad statements about their success but they’re delivering all of the flavor with none of the baggage and we are here for it.

"I'm not even joking, this is my favorite tea now. "

I tried this tea expecting it to taste slightly like the desserts they claimed to and was pretty much knocked out of orbit by how wrong I was. They tasted a LOT like the desserts! The best part is, it didn't have any of that bitter or weird artificial sweetener aftertaste that some of the other dessert-inspired teas I've tried in the past sometimes have. (Probably because they don't use any sweeteners...and they didn't need to). You can tell the quality is there. And the flavors are DELIGHTFUL. I've been telling EVERYONE that this is a MUST TRY.

I'm a basic b* and usually just drink english breakfast (for all meal periods), but this box has really shaken up my tea routine with surprisingly rich, full, toasty, caramelly flavors that are just right. Really glad I tried it, totally unexpected tea flavors that aren't artificial syrups.

"Setting a Higher Bar for Tea Uniqueness"

I am a big tea drinker, but have found that I either stick to basic green or earl grey, despite always gravitating towards trying new and unique flavors. They often come off as very artificial or perfume-y to me and are a big let-down when it comes to flavor accuracy. I think all of the teas in this box are really spot-on for the flavors they promise you. I initially thought that all of the flavors would taste like a chocolate brownie, but they were all very different. It was also a good mix of caffeinated and decaf so I could either have a nice cup of black tea in replacement of my morning coffee, or if I wanted something sweet at night without the extra calories, I could go for one of the decaf blends. I think the possibilities are going to be endless with all the different dessert options they can turn into great teas and I am looking forward to seeing what they do.

"This tea will blow your mind!!!!"

Some of the best tea I've had in my entire life! I forced myself to start drinking tea as a healthier substitute for coffee, because I would load my coffee up with creamer or drive to Starbucks everyday. Then, I moved onto chamomile and chai, but was still adding a ton of sugar into my cup because they were bland. Needless to say, all the flavors are amazing, especially the butter bourbon. If you're getting tired of grocery store options, this is the tea for you, especially if you are an avid lover of flavor in your hot beverages.

What a great box! I love tea and my nephew gave me this for my birthday. The cinnamon toast munch was the first tea I tried, and it was delicious! Really looking forward to trying the other tea flavors. The box and packaging are so cute, this is a really wonderful product.
