I have reviewed and tested a ton of makeup over the past four years.

Despite trying over 6,000 products, I’ve actually become a makeup-minimalist and a more demanding consumer. By this, I mean that I expect the absolute best in performance, healthy ingredients, and multi-use formulas.

My favorite picks these days seem to always come from Glossier and Alleyoop. If you are stuck deciding between these two brands, I have a few observations. Let’s dive in!

If You Want Fewer Products Without Sacrificing Function: Alleyoop

Alleyoop is known for its insanely versatile products and designs. For example, you could create an entire fresh face with their travel-friendly Stack the Odds Compact. It contains a highlighter, blush, and bronzer all stacked within an adorable blue package. It is rare to have one product deliver a complete look, but trust me, this one can! Another amazing Alleyoop find? Their Multi-Tasker Brush includes FOUR different brush heads within a single tool. And if this wasn’t amazing enough, wait until you see the Pen Pal. This single pen contains an eyeliner, lip liner, brow pencil, and highlighter. Amazing!

If You Want to Cut Your Getting-Ready Time in Half: Alleyoop

Alleyoop is that rare brand that makes itself at home in your vanity as well as in your gym or weekender bag. The multi-function formulas and tools have the power to cut your mirror time in half. So, if you are someone who wants that extra 15 minutes of sleep or that extra loop around the track without sacrificing beauty, Alleyoop is a game changer. I can look downright glowing in 5 minutes flat and the extra room in my makeup bag is an added bonus.

If You Want a Wider Range of Skincare: Glossier

Alleyoop has some really great skincare offerings. The range includes a 3-in-1 mask, moisturizer, and eye cream, as well as a toner stick and cleansing stick. I love the formulas, but I am also a skincare junkie who likes lots of layers and options. Glossier’s skincare range is less minimal and more robust, including an assortment of cleansers, serums, creams, toners, and masks. Alleyoop’s skincare feels more like what I would pack for a getaway weekend, rather than what I would fuss over on my nightstand. But if you consider yourself a makeup AND skincare minimalist, I would check them out for sure! If you want a skincare deep-dive, Glossier is your winner here.

If You Want to Lean into Body Care: Alleyoop

Alleyoop won me over in the body care category with its incredibly effective and non-irritating natural deodorant. I have been using natural deos for about 2 years now and their aluminum and baking soda-free formula truly works! And with scents like pomegranate and sage, sign me up!

In addition, Alleyoop’s innovative portable razor is perfect for the gym or a weekend away. Inside the round compact is everything you need for a flawless shave: a water spray bottle, shea bar, and 2 razors. The body cafe line also offers ingrown hair solutions, mouth spray, and lotion.

If You Like to Wear a Lot of Makeup: Glossier

Glossier gets a lot of (well-deserved) props for being a line that the makeup obsessed, as well as the minimalists, can all love. But if you are looking for more depth in terms of the number of makeup products and formulas offered, Glossier comes out on top here. Where Alleyoop is more focused on high-performance and multi-use items, Glossier has more single-use products to choose from like bright eyeliners, eyeshadows, mascaras, and powders.

My Overall Winner: Alleyoop

The person who loves Glossier will also adore Alleyoop. I find that my makeup bag is an edited curation of both brands and I love the range of looks I get from my rather small everyday collection. Both brands feel effortless, smart, and utterly cool. But I think Alleyoop is bringing a lot of new and exciting formulas, packaging, and ideas to the minimalist makeup game and I am finding myself more and more excited to use Alleyoop’s range every day.

My bottom line? If you like Glossier but want something fresh and new, you are going to fall in love with Alleyoop.
