5 Reasons I’m Ditching Function of Beauty for Prose

Editor's note: This is a deal that comes around ONCE in a blue moon. Seriously, if you've ever even considered buying Prose, NOW is the time. Once this deal goes, we're not sure if it's ever coming back.

Custom haircare: my time has come. I’ve taken a long, scenic tour of fancy shampoos, and they’re simply hit or miss. This is because each one caters to a single hair issue, and my head of hair is apparently more needy than that.

I’d heard a ton about both Prose and Function of Beauty, and initially gave Function of Beauty a try because it was the first custom hair brand on the scene. As I was realizing how much it wasn’t working for me, I was hearing more intriguing things about Prose. Guys, it turns out second really is the best. (We were onto something back in kindergarten!)

Here’s why I’ve switched to Prose:

1. It just works better for me

Prose makes some big promises: Their Shampoo says it will rebalance your roots and strengthen your strands. Their Conditioner claims to restore your hair without ever weighing it down. Their Hair Oil promises to protect your hair and smooth away frizz. Every hair product claims to do these things, but Prose actually does.

I don’t have the words to express what it means to me that after 35 years of shampooing and conditioning my hair, I finally have hair products in my shower that do the things. 🙌

2. They’ll zero in on your hair problems for you (and then solve them)

Function of Beauty flaunts an intro quiz that only takes 2 minutes. 2012 me would’ve been amped about them respecting my busy schedule, but the current, more fully realized version of me recognizes that investing time and money into my personal goals is worthwhile.

So, Prose’s more in-depth quiz might take a few minutes longer to complete, but it’s more comprehensive, accounting for my hair texture and density, level of oiliness or dryness, porosity, washing habits, and even my ZIP code so they can factor in regional air conditions, and more. 📝

It also asks what my hair goals are, so they can formulate products that deliver the hair I actually want. I trust the experts at Prose to use this info to concoct the best possible hair products for me. It’s also a relief to be able to trust them to come up with hair solutions, and not have to rely on my best guess.

3. Your formulas change with you

Whether you’re stepping out of the salon with a radical ‘do update or simply witnessing your mane changing as you journey through life, hair evolution is inevitable. My best friend has been noticing her hair becoming coarser as grays come in; in my case, my curls have loosened over time for no apparent reason.

Prose subscribers are encouraged to take advantage of the Review & Refine® function that lets you give feedback and update your hair goals with every order. The best part is that your feedback will be taken into consideration for your next shipment, tweaking your formula to fine-tune that hair optimization forever. 🤩

4. Subscribe & save is the only way

Speaking of that next shipment, subscribing to Prose is the way to go. Signing up for automatic shipments means you get a 15% discount on every order and free shipping, and they let you set the cadence for each product so it arrives right when you need it.

With Function of Beauty, subscribing scores you 20% off your first shipment and free shipping, but then you’re left in the dust. Prose subscribers also get surprised with little freebies of other products to try now and then—this is how I discovered the new Prose skincare line and I’m obsessed. ✨

5. The reviews are undeniable

If over 500,000 5-star product reviews ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ via Prose’s Review & Refine® feedback feature isn’t enough to win you over, they’ve got plenty of third parties to corroborate.

Prose has been given fond write-ups by publications I personally trust, like Glamour, Popsugar, The Oprah Magazine, Marie Claire, and nearly a dozen more magazines and blogs. 📖

I’m here for Prose…and Prose is there for me (how sweet)

I love a symbiotic relationship! I’m ditching the brand that I found to be fussy and imprecise for Prose, because Prose actually addressed my goals, as well as adjusting accordingly when my needs changed. Plus, I love the perks of ongoing savings as a subscriber and free product samples that surprise me when I’m least expecting it. It’s Prose from here on out.🤍
