2023?! Nah, Here’s How I’m Tricking My Skin Into Looking Like It’s 2013

Editor’s Note (4/11): Solawave just launched the Radiant Renewal Skincare Wand— an upgraded version of their iconic skincare wand, featuring twice the red light therapy.

By the time you reach my age, you really don’t believe in fairytales. So, I was admittedly skeptical when my kids told me about a wand that could turn back the clock for my skin. But, there’s more than a little bit of magic in the Solawave Advanced Skincare Wand and their Renew Complex Serum.

This 4-in-1 tool is my new secret anti-aging weapon–and best of all, I can use it at home. The Solawave wand combines 4 techniques offered by high-end facialists to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, and dark spots (AKA just about all the problem areas of older skin). Here’s how the Solawave works to give me skin that has gone back in time.

Results in five minutes per day, five days a week

Sounds like I had to spend a lot of time with it, right? Not at all. The Solawave regimen required only 5 minutes a day, five times a week, to start delivering results for my skin! Through a combination of microcurrent, facial massage, red light therapy and therapeutic warmth, my skin began to look brighter and less puffy. Three weeks into this simple routine, I started to notice the fine lines around my eyes diminishing. Using the Solawave wand is super simple and relaxing, and it fits easily into my schedule, too!

A cheaper alternative to expensive facials

A good friend of mine went for microcurrent therapy last year at a skincare salon in Manhattan. It cost her $150/half-hour treatment, and she looked great after four or five sessions. Personally, though, I just wouldn’t invest the time or money she did. The Solawave wand costs only $149 and the Renew Complex is just $32 for a 1 oz. bottle, which lasted me about six weeks. This regimen is a fraction of the cost of what my friend paid, without the hassle of a professional facial treatment.

Clean, effective products

At this stage of my life, I don’t waste time with products that feel cheap or gimmicky. I am really particular about what I put on my skin. The Renew Complex Serum that activates the wand smells great, and has both Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera in it. It’s also vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free. (You can also use your own serums, but I really like Solawave’s formula). Once applied to clean skin, the serum allows the wand to glide effortlessly along your face and neck. The device itself is sleek and small, making it easy to target all areas (and easy to take with you when you travel).

My final verdict

Expensive trips to the dermatologist do produce results, but they cost a small fortune and require an investment of time. I’m not into injectables which are commonly used among my age group, so snagging a Solawave felt like the best route for me.

Using Solawave for three weeks–even just for 5 minutes a day–has made my skin look and feel great. I can see an immediate visible difference after every session, and I’m just getting started. If you look at the side-by-side photos, one compares my skin just before using Solawave and the other was taken just after. You can see what I’m talking about: my face is brighter and less puffy, and my dark circles are definitely less visible.

But the really fun side-by-side photo is the one of me in 2013 vs. today after this morning’s Solawave session. I have to tell you I am thrilled with what I see. Does this product take away 10 years from my appearance? Maybe not a full decade, but I have to say, I haven’t looked this refreshed and glowing in a long time!
