Ellie Subscription Box “Floral Frost” Review

Hi, Everyone!♡

My name is April, and I am a newer writer here at MSA. I wanted to introduce myself since I have taken over the reoccurring reviews for Ellie from the lovely Brandi.

I am grateful for every comment, question, and piece of feedback I have received since my first review. How else would I grow as a writer and deliver valuable reviews to you as a reader? Honestly, this direct feedback was why I was so eager to join the MSA writing community. I love being able to interact with all of you directly. I get to learn what is important to you.

I feel fortunate for this opportunity to review Ellie for a few reasons. First, like many people, my health and fitness journey has been complex and challenging over the years. I appreciate that brands like Ellie, Headspace, and MindBodyGreen (just to name a few) know that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to anything in life, let alone an individual's health and wellbeing. I'm hopeful with your continued guidance and feedback; I can provide content as a trusted resource. I have appreciated your patience with me as I get my footing. I appreciate you taking the time to read!

Ok, now on to the review!

Ellie is a workout wear + gear subscription! Depending on your plan, each month you'll receive a complete outfit and some additional workout accessories/tools (for the 5-item box). You can choose from the collections for the month or skip by the 4th of the month.

This is a review of the 3-item box, which is $44.95 per month.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

Unboxing Excitement

My Ellie box arrived in its signature rose gold and metallic wrapping. I feel like I've never out-grown the kid-like excitement of diving into a beautifully wrapped subscription package. This month I chose the Floral Frost three-piece set.

What's Inside The Box

As mentioned, I received the 3 item plan (Floral Frost), which included the Journey Pullover, Minka sports bra, and Stella Leggings for $44.95.

I was excited that even though Ellie is debuting their winter collection, this set still had pastels and hints of winter white. The Floral Frost print has a really pretty dusty pink/light mauve color throughout, and I can see this set being something I can wear into spring as well.

I decided to go with a size small again in all 3 pieces since last month's fit had worked so well. Ellie's current sizing ranges from XS-XL. Previous reviews of Ellie have mentioned that it runs fairly true to size, but I'd have to say that I think it runs a little bigger just because it's not the norm that a size small would fit me for leggings, a sports bra, and a jacket. Ellie's sizing chart indicates that a size small ranges from (4-6) for reference. They also provide inseam, length, and product details to help you better navigate what size may work best for you. For me, knowing the product materials can help me decide if I should size up or down.

Journey Pullover by Eddie Bauer

Temperatures have just started to dip in Charleston (that means we are no longer in the 80s). Still, we've started to experience some cooler mornings, so I was delighted when I got my hands on this fuzzy pullover (the color appropriately named "Coconut Milk"). The pullover has snap enclosures by the neck for chillier days and front pockets (for Wyatt's snacks, of course).

This pullover is roomy, so it's more of a boxy fit which I really like. Though the material is incredibly soft, it is still lightweight but keeps you cozy (magic?). Once I got onto the beach, though it was too warm in the direct sun, I felt comfortable and not too hot on all of the shaded trails. Right now, it hits just at the top of my hip bones (I'm 5'10), so if you like your pullovers longer, I would size up. Just keep in mind that it will be roomier as well.

I enjoy any neutral pullover that I can incorporate with outfits outside of my workout wear. I also have enjoyed wearing it when Wyatt and I have a pajama party on the sofa.

Minka Sports Bra by Marika

The sports bra and leggings are both made out of that incredibly soft yet stretchy fabric. As a previous review described perfectly, "it feels like brushed suede." I often select leggings based solely on how the fabric feels. It's hard to find activewear that's durable and soft, so I was again impressed with Ellie's ability to deliver on both.

This sports bra is advertised as "low impact," but I found that with the criss-cross backing, it actually felt really supportive. It does come with padding inserts, but I ended up removing them. The small size sports bra notes that its fit is designed for 34-36 bra wearers. I'm right in between that, and with broad shoulders, it fits quite nicely. No ridding up or adjusting while we were out and about. (Here is Ellie's size guide for reference.)

With these photos, you may be able to tell that there was another dog on the beach that Wyatt definitely wanted to play with, but I wasn't worried about the sports bra not keeping me in place (Wyatt is deceptively strong).

Stella Leggings by Marika

So, when I first put on these leggings, they felt a touch snug (I've been having a hard time leaving the Halloween candy alone). Still, like last month's leggings, they are comprised of that comfortable ratio of spandex (92% Polyester/8% Spandex), so there's a nice amount of stretch, but not too much so that it loses shape. There's nothing worse than struggling to keep your leggings pulled up while running after your pup on the beach.

Ellie leggings are also what I would consider a true high rise (covers above the belly button on me, a long torso human). They also have a thick waistband (4-inches) which I enjoy because it holds me. I mention this because if you are like me and slightly horrified that low-rise styles are coming back, these leggings keep you supported without digging into you. I also didn't have to worry about the fabric doing that fun "see-through" thing while squatting.

Oh, and there's a nifty mesh pocket on the back to hold your phone or keys, though truthfully, I'm more likely to store those things in the pockets of the pullover.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $44.95

I'm still really impressed that you can get a three-piece workout/activewear set for less than the price of a pair of high-end leggings with this subscription.

Key Takeaways

The quality of Ellie's products that I've reviewed so far has really stood out to me. I'm not worried about weird mishaps with my leggings (constantly falling down on a trail run or not holding up after several washes). I'm also not a huge pattern person, and both these prints are pretty distinct, and I haven't grown tired of wearing them.

In terms of fit, as I mentioned (in my opinion), Ellie products run slightly on the larger side. Again, we all have different body types and all enjoy different fits (rightfully so!). Ellie has a size guide and a cute little icon on their site (I call him Mr.Bubble) who helps answer questions that may pop up while shopping.

Also, use me as a resource! I'm here to answer any questions about my experience with Ellie's products. If I can be helpful, let me know!

What did you think of my review? What would you like to see more or less of?

I really do appreciate every comment, question, and general feedback. If there's any area, you think I'm neglecting or need more information on, please let me know! ♡

When is this box available? Floral Frost is available now, along with Ellie's entire November collection!

Great review! I am far from 5’10” or size Small, but the 2 piece sub looks like a great option for those of us working hard every week.

Hi, Lauralee!♡
Thank you for taking the time to read! I agree, I like that there are different options in terms of the subscription, and I think outside of the cooler months where I am, the 2 piece one will be all that I need. Let me know if you need any help navigating the sizing because I think next month honestly I’m going to go up in the pants.

What kind of spray tan are you wearing? And are you happy with it?

Hi, Amy!♡
I am a big fan of the spray tan! I go to a place called “Charleston Glow,” where they use something called a blushtan formula. It is long-lasting (up to 2 weeks) and has a minimal spray tan smell. I have never had any luck applying self-tanner myself, so I leave it to the experts. A bronzer I really enjoy is “Laguna” by Nars as well. This may be more information than you needed, haha! Thank you for reading, though!

Hi Margaret! ♡

Thank you, thank you! I’m fortunate to have some talented photographer friends who are very patient when it comes to taking photos of me & Wyatt, haha 🙂 I’m really enjoying this set as well. Being tall, I usually shy away from prints because I think it’ll be “too much” visually, but I don’t feel self-conscious in these.

I appreciate you taking the time to read!

Thanks for the review. I really enjoyed the beautiful photos and adorable Wyatt appearances. I decided to try Ellie based on the last review and was very pleased with the fit and quality. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next 2 outfits that I selected for this month!
