There’s a Subscription for That: Pie

There's a Subscription For That is a series spotlighting subscriptions the team at My Subscription Addiction finds interesting and is excited to share with readers.

Pumpkin, pecan, apple, sweet potato... whichever fall pie happens to be your favorite, it's time to get excited. Pie season is here! Sure, pie isn't an exclusively autumn dessert, but now is definitely pie's time to shine. Maybe it's the appearance of roadside pumpkin patches or apple stands, but this time of year it's hard not to have pie on the brain.

If you're an avid baker, you're probably used to blocking off a big chunk of time for pie-making in the lead up to the holiday season; however, if baking isn't quite your thing, there's still a way to fill your home with freshly made pies. In fact, there's a subscription for that!

Southern Baked Pie Company was founded in 2012 by Amanda Wilbanks, a University of Georgia graduate with a love of pies and a box full of old family recipes. Armed with a killer all-butter pie crust, she's built a mini pie empire with four different retail locations throughout Georgia. The pie selection is impressive and includes both sweet and savory varieties. On the menu, you'll find southern classics like Buttermilk Pie, Chocolate Chess Pie, French Coconut Custard, Caramel Pecan, Salted Caramel Turtle, Apple, Pumpkin, Cherry, and-- of course!-- Georgia Peach. Craving something that isn't sweet? Southern Baked Pie Company also offers Pot Roast Pie, Tomato Pie, Chicken Ranchero Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, and a variety of quiches.

Want to receive pie every single month? The pie of the month club will deliver a new variety of sweet pie each month like clockwork, and you can choose whether to sign up for a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription.

The Details

  • Southern Baked Pie Company's Pie of the Month Club starts at $49.63 per pie
  • Choose from a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription.
  • Each shipment contains one 10" sweet pie.
  • Pies serve 8.
  • When you sign up for a subscription, you'll choose your first shipment date at checkout.
  • Shipping costs extra and varies depending on your zip code.

If you're looking for pies for Thanksgiving, it's good to plan ahead. You can sign up for a subscription to make sure your pie arrives in time for the big day, or you can place a one-time order in advance. All of Southern Baked Pie Company's pies can be frozen on arrival and reheated.

Looking for even more pie delivery options? Goldbelly also offers a monthly pie subscription that features famous pies from bakeries across the country, including:

Sign up now, and your first pie should arrive well in time for Thanksgiving!

I’ve got back and forth on the Goldbelly sub. I think it would be a great gift for my mom but I also feel really hesitant about shipping. Mail has been so slow! I’ve had a number of meal and food boxes go bad in transit because they sat in the shipping facility too long. This month alone, it’s happened on 5 (FIVE!!) of my food boxes, so I’m not feeling like the mail situation is getting a lot better.

It’s a lot of money for the pies to arrive spoiled or in poor condition and I’m no longer confident in a lot of these boxes’ customer service. I would love to see a review with pictures showing how the pies are packaged and their condition upon arrival. Without that… I think this sub is going to stay on my wishlist.

I love the idea of a pie subscription, but not the price by any means. And the price of the Southern Baked Pie Company subscription actually goes *up* the longer you subscribe for. That’s backwards.

The Goldbelly subscription sounds awesome because you get to try pies from a variety of bakeries, but it is approximately the same price – $49 per month, but the shipping is free, which makes a big difference. Maybe if I cancel 2 or 3 of my other subscriptions……..

I reached out to Southern Baked Pie Company about the confusing pricing, and I received a very nice response, which I have quoted here: “Thank you so much for the information. I am so sorry to inform that the information is incorrect on our website. This is fault on our part. We are currently working on a website rebuild and this is on our list of things to fix. Again, I’m so sorry it’s worded in a confusing way.

Here are the correct pricing and savings per membership, which we will update on our site as well:

3 month- $33 per pie (+24.95 per month in shipping cost) – 6% savings

6 month- $32 per pie- 8.5% savings (+24.95 per month in shipping cost)

12 month- $30 per pie- 14.5% savings (+24.95 per month in shipping cost)

I hope this information helps. Again, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, we will adjust on our end.

Regards”

So I think they have good customer service because they responded to my inquiry, and now we have a much better idea of exactly what the monthly cost would be.

If I drop Goddess Provisions at $33/month, that would cover the pie, and if I drop BoxyCharm at $25 per month, that would cover the shipping. Hmmmm………

Thank you. Unfortunately for $58 bucks a pie each month, I’ll have to keep making my own. They do look wonderful though!

Thanks so much for reaching out to them, Melissa!! This is great to know. (And I’m with you. I’ve been craving pie ever since I opened the Southern Baked Pie Company Instagram! 🤤)
