New Improvements on MSA Today

MSA
ByMSASep 16, 2021 | 35 comments

Hand putting smile emotion face to above normal and sadness mood for customer satisfaction and evaluation after service or marketing survey.

Thanks to all of you who completed our survey and provided feedback along the way! Later this afternoon we will be making some more updates based on your feedback.

If you haven't had a chance to complete the survey, we would still love to hear from you! Plus as a great big thank you, we’ll be randomly selecting one person to receive a mystery box from See New Skincare (value of $300).

Click here to take our short survey

Our goal is to continue to improve the site based on feedback you provide.

Here's a rundown of what's new and improved — thanks to what we learned from you most recently.

"The Latest" posts are moving on up

We love that you are here to read all about the newest spoilers, news, reviews and deals because our writers are busy making sure you're up on the freshest intel when it comes to your favorite subscriptions. To make it even easier to get to The Latest, we are moving them up on the page. Now and then we will surface new sections to showcase special content, like...Holiday deals (too soon?).

Filter to focus on what you want

What are you looking for on MSA? Reviews? Spoilers? News? All of it? We brought back filters so you can sort the content based on what you are looking to discover.

Find the conversations

Now when you look at posts you will be able to see the total number of comments before clicking into the article. No more FOMO.

Learn who the author is before the click

You will now be able to see who wrote the review that you're excited to read before clicking on the review. Follow your favorite writers, find new favorites right from the homepage.

What else would be helpful? Let us know! We want your input.

I like the update.
I also like that you’re including more reviews lately!

I’m glad you’re listening to user feedback and adjusting, seems that people like the new layout better. There are some core problems with the website though that I feel are as fi not more important:

– When you click own “load more” at the end of the posts, it takes you back to post one all over again and you have to scroll to the bottom of the page you’ve already seen to click on page 2

– The search function brings up a random smattering of posts, not in chronological order, and it caps off at about 20. I want to have a full post archive going back in chronological order like we had before. Sometimes I want to see reviews for a particular box for the whole year going back.

– The photos are comically large. I don’t want to scroll two full screens to view a lipstick

– Other websites post spoilers for boxes I like sooner, hours or even days sooner

– There’s a lot of filler product placement and ads that are not clearly labeled (the kidpik “stuff we love” you had recently across the whole page comes to mind)

– Click bait post titles (ex “Spoiler #1” for pusheen box, which just said that the spoiler might be coming soon, or “Full spoilers” for FFF that actually had only three spoilers)

Thanks for the feedback here. The search experience should be better now. We are definitely working on the other pieces too. More to come soon!

I don’t consider digital subs to be “real” subs so I didn’t include those in my survey. I’m really happy about them moving up “The Latest” and listening to our concerns. I would also love if the search function could be fixed, when I type in a box I get links to posts from 2017! I would also like to see more boxes here, I’ve been going to the other site a whole lot more now and they constantly post about all of the old subs I used to read about here.

I used to go here a few times a day too just to see what was up and new. It’s better now but still not “addictive” anymore. There are random comments on the bottom that are weird to read out of context.I feel like interesting things are not happening here anymore. I really have to search and go down the “rabbit hole” in this site, to even find something relevant to the subscription boxes I used to love to follow. I’d hate to say it, but it’s a “meh” site now. No fun either. It’s too much like the other subscription box site that no one likes either.

Actually I like the random comments towards the bottom. They intrigue me to find out what they are talking about!

I’m not sure what other site you are referring to but H.S. does a pretty good job.

If the new owners want to know what made MSA so addicting back in the day I would say this:

1. Reviews and spoilers #1 (with Andy’s excellent pictures).

2. Swap site (though I don’t participate, I believe it’s still popular?!)

3. The forum (this created the community that MSA is lacking now).

Pushing ads and digital subscriptions cheapens the site though I do realize they may broaden the revenue scope. I guess everything comes at a price. The challenge is doing it in a classy manner that doesn’t drive away your followers. Rebranding (or whatever this is) is never easy, but I’m hoping MSA will soon find their footing.

Praise the Lord they have listened! Much better than before. MSA is my happy place so I definitely appreciate the motivation to make the site more user friendly. Now if only the content was more relevant to subscription boxes (Disney+, Peloton?!)

The changes look great! Thanks for listening to our feedback!

I still prefer the original site. Why does MSA think the new one is better?

I used to visit this site a couple of times a day, now once in awhile, Everything is too big and spread out and the content is not helpful. It was great when it started and kept it with the most popular boxes and was a great community. Whomever took over over did it and went in the wrong direction

Agree. I used to spend quite a bit of time on here, daily. Now I can go days without even looking. When I do come on, its not nearly as long as it used to be. Its still sad to see how bad it is now.

I agree, it doesn’t have that addictive community feel anymore and I’ve found other websites that have more up to date info, where as before I would have never even dreamt of going elsewhere.

ITA. I miss Liz. Her reviews were so well done and classy.

I agree, used to come several times a day.i think so much of the community has been lost it’s probably too late.

Every single eimprovement was an actual improvement, at least to me.

BUT it just doesn’t seem to flow like it used to….

Is it the content itself? The site? I’m not sure… lol

I absolutely appreciate the effort though, gotta give the team at MSA some credit there for actually listening. 🙂

The content I think is the other issue….

My own opinions, maybe it’s just the old dog new tricks thing with me. haha

If you had to pick an article that shows what you loved about MSA a year ago (or more!?) , which one would it be?

Thanks, looks good!

I still can’t remove notifications from the drop-down on the main page.

I can only access my user information sometimes.

I also cannot get the search function to work.

Running Chrome on a Windows 7 machine.

Seriously MSA, I’ve been having these problems since the site changeover. I’ve commented on this repeatedly. If your IT people cannot correct this, please send me an email telling me to get lost and I happily will.

Simran @MSA

Thanks for the heads up! The notifications, user profile, and search function should be working now. Please let us know if you’re still having any issues.

While I still prefer the original site, this format is at least conducive to browsing for something of interest without too much effort (I don’t come here to work, this site used to be a place to chill out and find something interesting).
The other “new” format was such a pain and took WAY too much effort to find anything at all.

Thank you for taking our thoughts into consideration, it really shows with the updates! Excited to be able to get to revieews and spoilers now

Yes. I like the latest posts much better.
Is there a reason certain boxes are not spoiled or talked about anymore? I know they are still in business.

Steve

Got any boxes in mind?

Sure, whatever happened to Fortune Cookie Soap and Wicked Good Perfume monthly reviews? Or am I missing them somewhere?

Beth In Oklahoma

Personally, I’d love some home decor subs and reviews added to the mix. Decocrated, Elhyme, Habitation, Just Decor . . .

And art boxes like Let’s Make Art, Gogh box.

Alice

Laurel & Reed
Cat Lady Box
Wicked Good
Potomac Bead Box
Bargain Bead Box
Fashionsta
Bijoux Box
Facetory Lux Plus
Birchbox
I’m sure I’ll think of more.

Also, The Box by Fashionsta. Haven’t seen any spoilers for almost 2 months.

Confetti Collection, Pura Vida Bracelets, Therabox, is what I can think of off the top of my head.
