It's time for Birchbox subscribers to make their sample choices and for the July 2021 curated selection box.

This month, subscribers can choose from:

  • Oribe Gold Lust Masque: Like any good mask, this one gives your hair a new identity. The treatment is packed with healing botanical extracts to reverse damage and rejuvenate tired and dry tresses. Restorative elements also improve elasticity and reawaken softness while adding body for hair so healthy and vibrant, you’ll hardly recognize it after you rinse.
  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream: This superhydrating face cream combats dry skin by continuously drawing in moisture from the air throughout the day. Even in extreme weather conditions, you’ll swap dry flakes and rough patches for smooth, soft, and comfortable skin.
  • Benefit Cosmetics Playtint: Long-wearing and non-drying lip and cheek stain.

The first curated box selection for July 2021 is:

Inside you'll find:

  • Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum: This serum takes its name from the ingredients it's formulated with—vitamin C, vitamin E, and a blend of antioxidants—but also truly lives up to its C.E.O. title, working like a boss to brighten, tighten, and plump your complexion. With a potent 15% dose of an oil-soluble version of the brightening savior called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (a derivative of vitamin C), it addresses signs of aging and gives you a more even-toned complexion. In this format, it can penetrate deep and fast into your skin, so you get instant radiance. And it doesn't just make your skin look more refined and clearer thanks to saccharide isomerate extract and glycolic acid, it also reduces any redness or irritation with the help of phytosterols, so even sensitive types can use it.
  • Supergoop! Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 With Sunflower Extract: A fast-absorbing, non-greasy, water and sweat-resistant, reef-safe and broad-spectrum SPF 50 lotion for face and body. This super-lightweight, ultra-moisturizing formula provides high-performance protection from UVA, UVB, and IRA rays and supports skin from photoaging and dehydration. It's also made with natural extracts of citrus, basil to give a light non-sunscreen and non-synthetic smell.
  • Arrow Nourishing Lip Oil: This lip oil adds moisture to your lips and actually locks it in with a blend of aloe, coconut oil, & shea butter. Apply to lips whenever they need an extra dose of hydration. The color-enhancing pink shade gives lips a subtle pink tint by reacting to the pH level of your skin. The clear shade leaves a clear, shiny finish.
  • Megababe Space Detoxifying Charcoal Underarm Bar: Odor control that’s out of this world, in just 60 seconds! Activated charcoal sends odor-causing toxins down the drain. Glycolic acid & tea tree smooth & clarify. Pits are left odor-free & perfectly prepped for deodorant!

I was excited for the curated box until I saw that the SOLU shampoo included has sodium laurel sulfate in it. The thing is, this box is being specifically marketed as being free from that ingredient. When I see stuff like this, it shows no care at all for their customers. They just dumped a bunch of stuff in a box and marketed it as whatever they wanted thinking people wouldn’t notice, or they were just careless. I probably won’t be renewing at the end of the year.

I think this is pretty much the most disappointing month ever. I came to expect the multiple box options plus the chance to swap for a full size product. Now we have one box option with samples of things I’ve already sampled before and no option to swap for a full size product. They are going downhill more and more. And the things they have in their shop is the same stuff they have had for years.

Well..another month for points…good news I now have 80.00 to spend in their shop..I will be glad when my year is up in November..

Yes July seems a bit haphazard; missing an item in curated box (shown, not listed), no full size item, no multiple boxes. I do like the choices, but nothing really exciting. I’m trying to think what Birchbox needs to do to stay more relevant and the box changes are a good start, but there definitely needs to be more innovation and creativity. Maybe dedicate an entire box to one type of product to sample or one brand? I’m a sucker for a well curated theme as well. Just some ideas.

I chose the oribe because i do love their hair products. This is my last month of an annual sub that i splurged on at the height of the pandemic. sadly, I won’t be renewing. I’ve been with Birchbox off and on for 6 years and its just not fun or exciting for me anymore.

Lip/cheek stains like the Benetint are awesome for summer! That was my selection for July! Love the mesh bag, too.

This is my 3rd month on my annual sub. I like the curated box! I’ll definitely get use out of all the items. Not sure about the lip oil though, is Arrow Birchbox’s in-house brand? Does anyone have any experience with it?

I love their lip oil. It’s one of the best ones I’ve tried. I’ve finished two of the sample sizes.

I like the lip oil. It’s the perfect enhancing color for me and very hydrating without any stickiness. I would repurchase.

Yes, arrow is their in house brand. I actually liked the lip oil, but gets the smell from the plastic/rubber container. Other than that it was a good lip oil. I’ve been a subscriber for 4 years and I didn’t see anything new since they sold the company. Time for me to move on..

When did they sell the company? Back when they upped the price from $10?

Penny

This will be the second time that I can remember the Arrow lip oil being offered in the curated box, and yes, Arrow products are their signature brands. The lip oil was just ok for me. I’m still stuck in junior high and prefer a little flavor to my lip glosses or oils. This one was tasteless, if I remember correctly, but did the job.

No full size choice this month, or did I miss something? And only one curated box? I picked it because it seems like a good one, but Birchbox confuses me at times. They recently offered a refillable deodorant, Myro? Or something like that, yet the cartridges have been out of stock for weeks. Why bother? I need deodorant in the summer 🤷‍♀️

This will be my sixth ‘swap for points’ box in nine months. I’m definitely not re-subscribing once my year is up!

So does box option 1 include the Davines product in the picture? I don’t see it in the description.

Raechel

It does! I confirmed with customer service last night.

Heather

Thank you! I would be happy if I got a sample from this brand every time! It’s a but pricey so I love the nice sized samples.

Raechel

I reached out to customer service and confirmed that the davines shampoo is included in the curated bag, since it’s not listed as one of the contents (or at least wasn’t when I chose last night)

I signed up for the stasher bag month through a discount deal and now my last bag is this interesting mesh bag which I like. Otherwise the samples have been disappointing.

I was just thinking the same thing and the reason I resubbed was for those promised multiple curated box choices. I skipped June because the curated box was so unappealing and the samples have all been extremely unappealing lately.

Marion

I think these choices look better than the last few months, but then again, I don’t have an active sub, lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks like they’ve completely walked back on their promise to have multiple curated boxes or a full size product choice every month.

I agree..this box used to be fun, I loved it when they offered 2 or 3 options of curated boxes or a full size product. Now, I can’t wait for my subscription to end, I have one or 2 months left and definitely not renewing! They have the same old products from years ago, nothing new..they don’t even try anymore! Not to mention that more than half of products they sale on their website are not in stock..I am definitely leaving this subscription!

Dea

Totally.

That you don’t have an active sub indicates that you’re smart. I swapped for points – again! – and almost have enough for that Oribe perfume that costs $105. September is my last box. Evidently EVER.
