Birchbox was one of the very first beauty subscription boxes—we’ve been reviewing it since 2012! Each month, subscribers get a new mix of 5 beauty samples, such as makeup, skincare, haircare, and fragrance items. Birchbox lets you choose whether you’d like a box of items picked just for you (incl... read more.

Oh for Pete’s sake, it’s not a box of samples. Here is what’s included:
First Aid Beauty Arnica Relief & Rescue Mask – Full-size
Saturday Skin Pretty Pop Probiotic Power Whipped Cream – Full-size
Glamsquad The Untamed Texturizing Finishing Spray – Travel-size
amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask – Travel-size
Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Liquid Liner – Full-size
ColourPop Cosmetics Lippie Stix – Love Life – Full-size
GLAMGLOW® BUBBLESHEET™ Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask – Full-size
Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer – Full-size
Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Travel-size
You’ll see there are six full size items in the box. If you want at least two or three of those, this would be a good value.

Perfectly stated, Dia. Regardless of whether the products suit people’s individual taste, the value is there. As someone who over-subscribes, there are still new / different things in this box.

Just another day at MSA 🙂

Really not sure why everyone is assuming these are all sample sized items? According to the BuzzFeed article I read earlier this morning, the primer, texturizing spray, and amika are all travel size and the rest are full. Including the Saturday Skin product that’s sold for $57. It even looks to be the case in the photo, so I don’t get what everyone’s problem is.

I totally agree Em. I mentioned it below about it being a good deal if you were in the market for the Saturday Skin product, as it’s a newer brand and product I’ve never seen in a box (def not full size at least) and basically pays for the box. Two thirds (66%) of this box is full size, if anyone clicks on the box link, you can see the product sizes. That’s the majority of the products, yea I know there’s black eyeliner in here, but it’s Kevin Aucoin and not Eyeko. I would be buying this box if I wasn’t on product overload, and I have never bought anything from Birchbox. I believe that the value is there, it’s over $200 supposedly, and I totally believe that. This is a decent deal.
A lot of the comments are people unhappy with Birchbox for other reasons. And I personally can’t attest to those problems, but to me, this box is a decent deal, majority of full size products. If I was thinking really serious about getting that SS product, I would definitely be jumping on it.

This can’t be right. Over $60 for samples??? That doesn’t sound right.

Not samples. I count at least five full size products. The Saturday Skin cream alone retails for $50+.

Since this is available now I’d love for MSA to get a confirmation of the included product sizes.

Are these just sample sizes or are they full? Sample the price is laughable, full the price is ok. But they lost me at black eyeliner lol. I liked that on another post someone said they use their black eyeliners as calligraphy pens! I am so going to do that!

Who’s smoking cr*ck with this insane price point? Small samples (except one) and an eyeliner which I won’t even count because everyone who subs has a drawer full of black liners.

Seems expensive for the same tiny samples, their LE boxes used to be so much better than they are now.

The beauty box market is so over saturated and to for them to put out a $60 box with sample sized items is insane. If they were high-end brands I could understand it. This is a $25 box.

i am so upset at birchbox’s customer service, i don’t even care how good of a deal a discovery box or whatever is.. i am done. being an ace means nothing to them. i re-subbed monday evening, found out my box was all repeats and today received an email if i rejoined today that every box gets a brigeo shampoo set and you can pick any choice, or one of the four options. so why is customer care telling me with the same email that it’s not possible? this is my first box back, so glad i did not join past one month bc this is crap.

Why are the prices keep going up and the product sizes keep shrinking? Limited edition boxes used to be a way to get full sized products at affordable prices.

I would say that this is a pretty good deal only if you were wanting to buy the Saturday Skin pretty pop as it’s $57. So spend a few extra and get all the other items. That Saturday Skin item is not heavily saturated in the sub box world imo and a newer release compared to the rest.

The First Aid Beauty item is brand new and is supposed to be an exclusive to this box for now

I recently cancelled BB because any other option seems more appealing than this one. When it was a $10 a month it was ok but $15 to get the same stuff, no thanks.
These limited edition boxes are usually $50 and up and mixed full size and samples, I get Fabfitfun quarterly with all full size goodies for less.
IDK, I was hoping Birchbox to improve and lower prices because I think this are what these boxes are for… to score high end items at a lower/bargain prices.
Have you seen Birchbox add ons??? Full price and you only get free shipping, what’s nothing when you are an Ace with free shipping on all orders??? Honestly I think they went down the hill a while ago.

Ho Hum…same old same old. Hardly what I would call in the “splurgeworthy” category…it’s all the same stuff things they’ve been passing off on us for years. Easy pass!

Are these sample sizes or full size items?

Is it me or does Birchbox keep pushing the same tired products they’ve been pushing for the last 5-6 years? MAC primer, Amika, the bubble mask, Bumble & Bumble…I cancelled my sub years ago (when they changed the points system) and occasionally I look at what people are getting to see if I might be interested in re-subbing and it seems like the same stuff I was getting ages ago.

Ok, I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🤪 I’d rather spend LESS money with BoxyCharm or FFF and know I’m getting all full sized items.

Nope, you’re correct. I subbed years ago before they switched the price and points and the products were a little repetitive even then. It’s okay for subscribers that are new to sub boxes but people who have been buying for awhile are less likely to be interested in this. These products don’t justify the price point at all.

Nothing makes me grown faster than that Smashbox primer. I do not understand it’s appeal.

Yeah, it’s hard to imagine these products being “splurge-worthy” when half of them have shown up in subscription boxes all the time, making them easy to get at a fraction of RV.

It’s not you. Same old same old. I don’t want seven of the nine products, so this is a pass for me. My annual runs out in March, and then that’s it. Allure makes me happier and the offerings and brands are very diverse.

It’s not just you! I only kept BB because I still get it for $10/month, and I’m able to swap for points every month.
