Was the curling wand an option when you picked?

IPSY bag contents and ADD ons are available. Just shopped and saw all my bags contents. I picked up another one of each of the serums. I love serums and these had excellent reviews.

So… on one hand, I’m very excited that Ipsy is branching out into other beauty items with the hair tools. On the other hand, I signed up for makeup and skincare… I have a super short pixie cut and have zero use for a straightener or a curling iron 😐

I went through my profile and there’s no section for hair tools, just hair care. So if I opt out of hair care to avoid products I can’t use, I also avoid products I can use… like dry shampoo and finishing creams. I emailed ipsycare to opt out and received a vague response that they’ll “try, but there’s no guarantees.”

I really hope I don’t end up with one. I can’t use it and judging by the responses here… someone else would definitely like it more than I would.

I chose the vitamin B serum in an effort to avoid the hair tools and the Balm palettes… although I’m sure I’ll end up with one of them, haha. Here’s hoping the other spoilers make up for it.

Same. I have waist length straight hair and love it. I would have no use for these tools, either. I hope someone else gets them that wants them, and not me!

Just wanted to put out there that it’s not something new for there to be varied selections for choice time. I’ve always had different items to choose from than are mentioned here on MSA. Sometimes additional things, sometimes less things to choose from. Some folks sound surprised and I thought that everyone knew that depending on your profile, you may have different choices than others. Although I wish this were not the case.

IPSY IF YOU ARE LISTENING – please let everyone have the same selection to choose from. Just because I have my profile set a certain way does not mean that I won’t ever choose something I have marked rarely, etc. Please give everyone the same opportunities to choose.

It may be that they don’t have enough of any particular thing to handle offering it to everybody and prioritize the closest matching profiles first.

But be happy, I have 2 accounts with subscriptions to all three bags each and they haven’t been sending me ANY choices. I haven’t even been able to get add-ons and they won’t help me. I have bags showing as getting assembled I have already received and my account is all jacked up.

So I would love the problem of a curated selection to choose from with my 6 freaking subscriptions.

Lori

I did not know this and I’ve been a long time subscriber and MSA reader. I’ve never seen so many people comment about having different choices available. Not sure why 🤷‍♀️

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Agree! I’m curious if there’s a logistical reason they do that.

Reply ButtonReply

Deb

I am thinking everyone will get one hair tool, one Sweet Chef, one Balm palette and one Tarte lippie. There haven’t been a ton of variations for this bag

Reply ButtonReply

Juliet

Im thinking the same lol

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

I hope so!

amarante

I didn’t find any of the choices compelling so I opted for IPSY doing my selection.

I’m relieved that the Foxybae stuff appears to have “sold out” since I actively didn’t want miniature curing iron or flat iron. I have almost no interest in full size of these items. Hopefully that means that I will get another high retail value item since I won’t be getting one of the hair items which are theoretically pricy. FWIW, they are both on amazon.

The Balm palettes are not well reviewed and the rest of the items were hardly compelling enough for me to want to to actively select.

Danielle

Oooo this actually looks so good. Considering getting myself one with my Christmas bonus this year

Reply ButtonReply

Lee

Target skin care….seriously? In a $50 box. Ugh. I’m hoping they send everyone a hair tool. Although I have a wand a flat iron I think this is a good addition to the box. I picked the tarte lippie because I really needed a new one

Juliet

I’m so glad i kept my ultimate subscription. Great way to start off 2020 and the bag is beautiful. I chose the wand. I know we’re going to receive one of the styling tools. I hope they put together great products to go along with our choice picks

Amy

Apparently, I missed the only good items (foxybae)…..very disappointed in the Ultimate selection (and value of the selection items) this month as I would prefer the GBP items!

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

I was thinking the same thing! Plus options seemed more expensive/better options. Hoping the other items in my box make up the difference. Does anyone know if there is a cross over of products (meaning do the same products show up across all three boxes)?

Reply ButtonReply

Mamas3loves

There were only like 12 items in total for ultimate last month. So it worries me. I loved pretty much all of the GBP options but I chose something just to choose something for GBU there was not one choice I was excited about sadly. And several of those options will end up being in my GBU. Not excited

Marion

This is light years better than last month!

That being said, though I wouldn’t be mad to receive any of these, there’s no “I need it” items, either. I already have a mini flat iron & a Matt Trimony palette from Cult Crushes (RIP).

I did find out that the Festival shade from Tarte is a great MLBB from the last Tarte build-your-own bag.

Not sure if I want to get this bag. I paused this month, so I may go ahead & just cancel.

Zo

I don’t have either hair tools as choices. Odd.

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

I hope they didn’t sell out. I signed up today partly because of them, but ending up choosing a palette. I’m still hoping to get one or the other. But it seems that people are getting a variety of choices for all tiers of ipsy, so maybe it’s a glitch or they are trying out something new.

doodlebug6

There are varied items in each bag sub! Not supposed to be any of the same items in each sub, choices or add ons!

jenn

a different palette but similar made by thebalm is part of the ipsy offers this week.

Paula James

I love that the flat iron and curling wand are marbled like the bag!

Reply ButtonReply

Kate

Did anyone get an email telling them to pick? I sure didn’t and by the time I read about it on MSA and did, (9:45am pacific) they weren’t offering the flat iron, just the curling wand.

Grrrr

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

There was no email, you just have to check their app/website on the day they announced the choice would be to see what your options are.

Reply ButtonReply

Carey

There were only like 9 choices for me, no foxybae or palettes OR anything enticing. The $20 serums were the best item left…. BOOOO lol

Reply ButtonReply

dia

you should download their app. they have a timeline telling you when you can pre-select your item, when they reveal your bag’s contents, etc. I didn’t get an email from them either, but I knew from the app that pre-selection day was today, so I did so early this morning.

I’m frustrated I’m customizing for January and I haven’t even received my December bag yet

Reply ButtonReply

Ivy

It shows my bag was shipped on the 12th by DHL, and no update since, I emailed and was told it’s on the way, it’s good to know I’m not the only one.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessenia

Omg I haven’t received my December bag either… I was like choice day Ipsy I haven’t even gotten my December bag

Kathy Piccini

Even tho I already own NUMEROUS curling wands, flat irons and heated styling brushes I still chose the mini flat iron. Figured i could gift it if nothing else. N considering we’re getting another 1 items in the Ultimate I may end up several of the other choices anyway. I DO like that it’s a marbled design to match the makeup bag. Will make a nice gift set for someone

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Agree! I chose one of the palettes, but I hope I get one of the hair tools even though I have many. Those are just too pretty!

Jennifer

Why does it seem like the same products from the previous month keep rolling over into the next month? I’m just waiting to get a repeat of something I’ve already received previously. Being subscribed to all three boxes, I don’t see how I won’t eventually. We’ll see what the boxes actually look like this month, but this might be it for me on all three subscriptions. I’m just not being wowed by Ipsy as of late. Seems since they added the new box, items are worse and being carried over for months. I’ve been seeing these same Huda Beauty palettes in the boxes for three-four straight months now. Glad I never bought any of her Obsessions Palettes because I almost have the entire collection at this point or will very soon. Last month the only thing that made me not regret the Ultimate Bag was the $200 choice item from 111Skin. Other than that, I’ve been disappointed to say the least. I hate to admit it, but Boxycharm is actually more promising than Ipsy. 😒

Reply ButtonReply

am2cents

I had gotten repeats between the three bags. I got something in my Ultimate that was in my Plus and somethig in my regular that was in my plus (or was it the other way around….) and I have gotten duplicate items in my regular glam bag. They say it shouldn’t happen but, it does.

Reply ButtonReply

Mamas3loves

Thats definitely not supposed to happen. You should email them when it does because they will do something for you. It happened to me once with the farah brushes.

Lauren

When I started my sub box journey, I was always excited to see Tarte, but now I’m sort of like meh Tarte again.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I got the curling iron but I also wanted theBalm palette. Hopefully it will be an add on!

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Vice versa! Crossing fingers for us both, lol!

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

I signed up today for the curling wand. I also love the bag

Reply ButtonReply

Jm

I signed up today and didn’t get to choose!!!! How do I get to?

Reply ButtonReply

Jennie

Can you let me know if you got billed today for signing up today? I want to get Ultimate and have a choice, but I don’t know if we get billed now or at the end of the month. Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

Yes you get billed IMMEDIATELY. I’m already subscribed to Ultimate but I decided to get Plus too and as soon as I subscribed I got the text from my bank (I get notifications no matter the amount. I’m paranoid. 😄)

Jm

I just signed up and it’s not letting me choose. What do I do?

Reply ButtonReply

Deb

First time I will be skipping Ultimate. I like the bag, but nothing else calls to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

So what’s the deal with The Balm? I tried the In the Balm of your Hand palette we got in Plus a few months back and I didn’t think the eyeshadows were very good at all. I did like the blush, bronzer and highlight on that palette though. Is it just me, or are they a little over hyped? I’m trying to decide whether to give them another shot if one of these palettes is available for add ons.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

Thanks for all the responses! Ok, so your opinions pretty much sum up my experiences, I guess I’ll just pass on The Balm for future add on’s.

amarante

If you google these palettes they are NOT well reviewed as people found the matte shades hard to blend and essentially ending up with a mess.

As others have posted, I think that they appeal because of their very smart packaging and promotion but the quality of the products isn’t that good – at least in my experience in terms of the items I’ve received.

Lori

My comment didn’t post, so sorry if it shows up later. Annoying.

I think the cute packaging does a lot for this brand as their eyeshadows are fine, but nothing special.

Dea

They hype themselves and give ipsy their products all the time. Their eyeshadows are a complete miss for me, and I’m never happy to see this brand in my bag, alas.

Marion

TheBalm is pretty hit & miss for me. The stuff that I love though is definitely HG status. I highly recommend the Matt Trimony palette. The colors are very pigmented & very soft (so there is a little dust).

Lori

I agree they are not the best. Not awful, just not amazing. I think the packaging is a big part of it.

Athena

I went ahead and got the mini curling wand. I already have a mini blow dryer and straight iron from Boxy, so I figured I’d have a complete set for travel and back up. The others didn’t seem to be interesting to me. The lip paint isn’t my favorite, I have way to many highlighters, and the serum shots have mixed reviews. I would have cancelled my ultimate this month, but I loved the bags!
