6 years of WOWs

Just found out and could just cry. You folks at Plated are super special; I have not seen customer service like this for years outside of local mom and pop type stores. If I could, I;d make sure personally every one of you went on to the most terrific jobs possible that you’d love. Best wishes!

Sooooooooooo bummed. Plated was something I looked forward to every week. I’ve been subscribing since the beginning. Tried ALL the others and nothing compared. It’s taught me cooking skills, introduced me to new ingredients and spices…I seriously shed tears when I got the email. Will try Marley Spoon if it will deliver to me in Colorado.

Thank you for that. Good to know you can still get Plated kits delivered through Safeway or other stores. I know Target has rolled out some meal kits in their supermarket area and they had done pretty well.

Marley Spoon would probably be the best substitute. There are some really great recipes that I’ve cooked again. They also have some delicious, more adventurous options that I wouldn’t be able to replicate without the provided spice packs etc.

Such a bummer, I was just singing their praises to my cousin. Long time customer, 3 meals per week. Found some fantastic recipes and rarely had a miss. It really took so much stress out of planning meals for the week, and grocery shopping. Produce never went bad. What a shame.

Is anyone able to order the Thanksgiving box? I’ve been putting it off and it seems like you can no longer order it 🙁

Noooo…I really enjoyed Plated. I find Blue Apron to be good but not always adventurous. I figure if I am going to pay for a subscription, it has to be ingredients or recipes that are outside of my wheelhouse. I am super bummed to hear this – didn’t see this coming at all.

Albertsons pulled the plug. One reason is because Plated wasn’t profitable (I don’t think any meal kit business is, it’s a tough biz model), I also think they want to take the brand they have built, there’s more on their plans. But I’m beyond devastated. Plated was one of the things that brought me the most joy. I feel a hatred growing for Albertson. The people at plated were so dedicated and the service so exceptional and they are now out of a job. This is so awful.

Such sad news today. I’ve been a Plated customer for just over a year, but I ordered 4 meals every week, it was my staple! I tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh but both paled in comparison for truly chef-inspired recipes. Plated was so good at introducing unexpected ingredients and different regional cuisines. Like others have said in the comments, I re-make so many of the Plated recipes because they are THAT good. Now I’m not sure what to try next. Sun Basket seems “ok”, but I’ve never been wowed by their menu. 🙁

Also a Plated fan here, a little bummed about this news. I have tried pretty much all of the other meal kit brands. Plated has some of the most elevated, complex but easy to understand recipes with good ethnic flavors unlike the others. I have one coming Monday (assuming they don’t shut down early), one last hoorah. Homechef is my next favorite box but their multi-cultural options/recipe complexity is not as strong.

Home Chef recipes look SO BORING on their website, is it even worth a try? All I see is standard protein separated by side of carbs and a bit of salad. Wtf. Where else other than played could we experiment with super tasty dishes like Persian chicken and jewelled rice?? So sad!

I was alternating between Plated and Home Chef, so I’m super sad it’s shutting down. I do find Home Chef to be a bit less adventurous than the Plated meals, but I think Blue Apron has the ethnic variety you might be looking for.

Just received my first box today and was already impressed with my dinner 🙁
Was going to decide between this and Sun Basket.. Easy win for SB I guess

I tried a few weeks of Sunbasket, and I was under-impressed. Mainly about the cooking steps. Maybe it is better now, but that was over a year ago and I canceled after a couple of boxes.

Plated cooking steps were SO specific…and I adored that. I seriously did not have a single meal turn out poorly except for user error (me — like not reading the recipe all the way through before starting). I felt like everything was tested rigorously before they even used those recipes/meals.

I’ve gotten Sunbasket and Daily Harvest for several years now. I love them both!

I have gotten Sun Basket before and really like it! The fresh pasta and high quality produce always makes it worth it for me.

Shelly

I was also shocked by the news. I have gotten Plated delivered once a month for the past three years – I counted after the news came and it included over 100 recipes – some of which as my favorites.

I have tried Sunbasket but both times had an issue with my order… may try Hello Fresh next. I like that Plated pushed me to try new ingredients and cuisines I was not as familiar with cooking.

This is very shocking. And so vague. We did try plated but liked Hello Fresh and Gobble a little more. The Safeway where I live closed down due to homeless thefts so we don’t have a grocery store in walking distance anymore. I live in downtown San Jose CA and tend to try to walk everywhere as I hate the traffic and meal sub boxes are a nice treat when we want to cook at home.

So sad I loved this box and had some amazing meals.

Wow, this is a shock. Were there any clues this was happening?

Too bad, this one along with green chef was my favorite for vegetarian meal kits. It was a little more challenging to cook then the other boxes but always enjoyable. If I was able to bring the box price per meal down more, I would have used it more often. No Albertsons near me either.

I have been with Plated for 3 years. I feel like they just broke up with me. Come back to me Plated, I’ll change!

Kristin

I’ve been with them over 5 years. Yes they cost more but they are the ONLY subscription that I remade the recipes on my own. My husband and I can recall all of our favorites over the years from memory. This box helped me grow my skills and always gave us new things to try. Back to Homechef.

This is so sudden. Is it because I burnt the parsnips?? I can be better!

Didn’t Albertsons Companies (Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, etc.) buy Plated in September 2017?

Jolene

Yes, they did.

I found this one to be too expensive for what you get. Others are expensive (Sun Basket comes to mind), however, they are worth it.

We are really bummed! Plated was great, tasty, always delivered on time and rarely had any issues with quality of ingredients or damage. Like others posting here, we feel like we’ve been broken up with. It’s become a part of our life and how we eat as a busy family. Anyone have any recommendations on a replacement? We’ve tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, and much preferred Plated.

SquirrelyGirl

I really enjoy Sunbasket. It’s a little pricier but the ingredients are always super fresh and organic and their CS is really good.

Sarah

Try HomeChef. I’ve been a regular for over a year and have yet to encounter any issues. Servings are a bit more generous than Hello Fresh and the options for family meals are much wider. We did Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and then Home Chef, and have stuck with Home Chef the longest.

Kristin

Marley Spoon is pretty good i do Home Chef too. Trying Everyplate for the first time tonight.
