I’m so upset. Last year I got my sister a year subscription as a gift and was looking and looking for a deal so I could afford it again this year since she’s really enjoyed it. Finally I found something and bought it for her, but not as good deal as what I paid last year. Now I feel ripped off. I should have gone with Ipsy and had her try that for a year.

Seems like they’re realizing people aren’t buying into their price increase.

Don’t fall for it! Their box hasn’t changed one bit! “New birchbox” is 2 slightly better boxes available in VERY limited quantities. That’s NOT a choice. That’s NOT an improvement.

So they essentially raised ther price to get everyone to lock in for a year at $10 a month. Last year I locked in for 6 months at $7 a box – and that wasn’t even worth it.

Let’s see how next month’s “selections” go. They need to prove their new business model isn’t a “bait and switch” like Allure has been pulling lately..

I wish I had seen this before I let myself get suckered into their “deal”. I signed back up for the year and this morning I can see my samples – it’s 6 items (yay?) but THREE of them are hair creams. Why?! At least there are no repeats…

2 boxes ago my 6 samples included 2 foil packets , 3 tiny single or double use samples and 1 deluxe sample (1 oz shampoo). This coming month 2 of the 3 curated choices looked great. Since I’m not an ace member, by the time I get to choose only the last crappy curated choice was left. Now you can make an informed decision

Exactly. Looks like the crappy box is what everyone gets for ther bargain price of $120 a year… that’s the “New Birchbox”. Higher price, more frustration…

Do you have to cancel your monthly subscription to get this discount?

Kelly

I’m pretty sure you have to cancel and resubscribe using the promo code.

I would have to correct some of these comments. This year has been great. I have been receiving full size lip products and brushes so far. The new model of marketing seems like it will be worth the cost.

I’ve been thinking of signing up since canceling Allure. Also like a good discount. Can’t be any worse than Allure, right?

I would primarily caution that in my experience, Birchbox tends to skew heavily toward skin care and hair care– so if you are more a makeup person, you may be disappointed. Or maybe that’s just because most of their makeup is eyeliners and mascaras.

While many of the samples are small and not going to last a month, they are usually plenty big to figure out if you’re at all interested in a product. (Although, okay, it was kind of cheap of them to send a little bubble card sample of an Estee Lauder lipstick…)

I often look at my samples for the month and get cranky because I feel like I could have gotten better ones, but when I look back at my sample list after the fact, they have sent me a wide variety of brands and product types, and I HAVE found a handful of really wonderful products from them.

I’ve had allure off and on, and have never once wished I had them instead of Birchbox.

It’s funny how people have such different views on things (it’s what make the world goes ’round I guess!). I never felt like I could truly decide if I liked a skincare product or if it was interacting with my picky skin with the tiny samples I got from Birchbox. And they never seemed to follow my profile at all. To avoid getting a bunch of hair stuff (don’t need) or skincare that doesn’t match my profile, I would often try to choose the curated boxes but only half the time or less they interested me. And I’m an Ace, so I have nothing against Birchbox as a company, obviously. LOL. I’ve had my Allure sub consistently for over 3 years now and have quit and come back to Birchbox about 5 times or so within that same time (just to get a box I was interested in). I’m always happy with my Allure, though…even though CS can be a pain sometimes…if only we could marry Birchbox CS with Allure sub content. LOL.

So much better than the Allure or Babebox subscriptions!!

Birchbox has the tiniest sample sizes, not worth the regular price let alone $10/month

Melissa

Ummm, $10 a month *was* the regular price until a month ago or so. It has not been cheaper to my knowledge.

And you have to consider that, even though the samples are small, many are from deluxe or prestige brands, so the value is technically there. Also, I have been getting some full sized items.

Jackie

Generally the samples are smaller sizes, usually not any full size items. The curated boxes have been pretty good the last few months, but someone said the 6 item box is only for a few months. Look at the past reviews and see what you think 🙂
