Okay. I was mostly annoyed but still holding back judgment when I saw that BB was increasing their sub prices, because, ya know… Maybe they’ll surprise me and really raise their game.
But from what this shows me, they seem to think that adding an item justifies the price difference. Adding one fifth of value to justify adding one half the cost DOES NOT COMPUTE. (I know, I know.. Shipping is supposed to improve, etc.. But I never cared about that stuff as long as I got what I ordered within the month.)
Maybe I’m a little bitter because I got an email about Netflix increasing their prices the day before the one from BirchBox, lol but still. Looks like I’ll be jumping ship as well. Sigh.

I guess I won’t be buying any of these curated boxes. I’ve been an ACE for about 5 years although I’m not currently subscribed. I spend way more(too much) money in their shop than I would pay for a subscription. On-line beauty products have gotten highly competitive with Sephora, Cult Beauty, Blue Mercury, Neimans, Nordstrom, etc. I purchased products from Net A Porter last week at 15% discount. BB can’t keep taking away perks and expect people to continue to buy.

Did you see that Blue Mercury currently has a 13-piece gwp with a $125 purchase? What’s cool is that you can use code WELCOME to get 10% off that purchase bringing it down to $112.50, and you’ll still get the gwp! Plus, you can get another 10% cash back too!

Oh Luna, thank you! I’m going to check that out right now. I love GWP deals!!!

No way is this box worth $20 for these small samples. What are they thinking?

Awww that’s too bad subscribers can’t buy the curated boxes for $10 anymore. 🙁 $15 still isn’t bad, but $10 was a nice round, small number 😉 At least they’re still available for purchase though (as long as they haven’t sold out during the sample pick selection time)!

Ya, I agree. I’ve subbed on and off and have been an Ace for years and I thought that you used to get the discounted rate of $10 whether you were a current subscriber or Ace. But maybe I’m remembering wrong and only bought curated boxes from the shop when I was already a subscriber anyways. But now that it is $20 even for Aces I don’t think I’ll be buying them anymore. That’s double the price from what I remember! And seems like a lot for tiny samples…

Especially if you think about what you get for 20 dollars from Boxy or 25 from IGBP. Full size products! I don’t see how Birchbox is going to compete now that they have raised prices.

I think non-subscribers, regardless of Ace status, had to pay $15 for curated boxes. I think I recall that because I ended up purchasing a curated box or two when I wasn’t subbed. That’s true that it’d make more sense for Aces to just sub & cancel if we see a curated box we like to ensure we get it at $10. I recently signed up for an annual plan, and before that I hadn’t been subscribed since probably early last year, so I can’t recall if we can cancel through our account or if we have to email them. If we can cancel through our accounts, then that would definitely make the subbing/cancelling process a lot easier and provide more of an incentive to work it that way… at least for me it would be. 🙂

P.S. As an Ace, I guess it would serve me better to just keep subbing and canceling if I see a curated box I like since I can get it as a subscriber for the grandfathered price of $10. That seems odd….and more work/hassle for them to keep track of my subscription status.

I was disappointed as an Aces and the I won’t mention how much is spent with them that Aces can’t get the curated boxes for $10 instead of $15. Now I feel like I’d be paying $5 for 1 extra sample. Bummer.
I thought maybe it was a glitch in the system when I added a curated last night only to find in my chat with a Birchbox staff via chat the information is indeed correct.

Someone posted on another thread that CS told them there would only be one option available for purchase in the shop.

Always, though? Or just this time because Curated Box 2 sold out during sample selection?

That’s the one that I was planning to buy in the shop. I hope that it comes back at some point.
