Snack Crate "Switzerland" Review

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Card FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Card Middle

This box always greets you with a colorful booklet and talks you through every snack to be found in the subscription (at all levels)! This month’s box theme is Switzerland, and to be honest, I don’t know much about their snacks, so I’m excited to learn what’s in store!

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Stickers Front

There’s also an awesome bonus in each box: stickers! The stickers are always a hoot, and this month, I cracked up over the cheese wheel being cut.

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Zweifel Paprika Chips Package FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Zweifel Paprika Chips Open In Plate Top

Zweifel Paprika Chips

When it comes to chips, I like them really crunchy and super-savory - just like these! I really enjoyed the paprika flavor; to me, they tasted like smoked paprika and had a wonderfully umami-forward flavor. What I liked best about these and that they weren’t too salty - just flavorful.

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Zweifel Snacketti Dancer Cream Package FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Zweifel Snacketti Dancer Cream Open In Plate Top

Zweifel Snacketti Dancer Cream

I thought it was neat that the box included two different snacks from the same brand! These were a different shape and texture than the chips, more of a puffed corn snack in the shape of dancers. This is supposed to be cream flavored, but they were also savory to me; almost like the mildest, most non-spicy mustard I’ve ever had.

Sugus Fruit Chews

I’m not usually a huge fruit candy kind of person, but these were really good! Sometimes when my throat is dry I like having candy in my desk drawer, and these juicy, chewy guys were good - kind of like chubby, more-tart Starbursts.

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Milka Cake and Choc Package FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Milka Cake and Choc Open In Plate Top

Milka Cake and Choc

I couldn’t believe how moist this little cake was! It had a nice texture and flavor that reminded me very much of pancakes, and the liquid chocolate center had a taste that was a lot like the flavor of Tootsie Rolls! I usually enjoy treats like this with coffee, but I decided to brew a cup of chocolate chai tea to go with this and it was the perfect pairing.

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Sadex Brause-Stabchen Package FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Sadex Brause-Stabchen Open In Plate Top

Sadex Brause-Stabchen

This snack is the perfect example of something that’s well-made - just not to my taste! As I mentioned, I’m not a huge fruit candy kind of person, and these reminded me a lot of those candy sticks that you dip in the flavored sugar. I enjoyed the tartness of the lemon flavored one, but these were definitely something my husband enjoyed more than I did!

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Munz Prugeli Weiss Package FrontSnack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Munz Prugeli Weiss Open In Plate

Munz Prugeli Weiss

This is definitely one of the better chocolate bars I’ve had in a long time! I really love white chocolate (see bonus snacks description), and the inner milk chocolate filling was smooth and full of hazelnut flavor. I didn’t detect as much of the praline elements that was described in the brochure, but it was so good I had to make sure I didn’t eat the entire thing in one sitting!

Snack Crate Switzerland January 2019 - Toblerone in White, Milke, and Dark Chocolate Package Front

Bonus Snacks: Toblerone in White, Milke, and Dark Chocolate

Fun fact: my best friend’s favorite chocolate bar is Toblerone! Sadly, she couldn’t get anywhere near these almond, honey, and nougat goodies because my husband and I demolished them pretty much instantly. We both liked the dark chocolate one but agreed it was pretty intensely chocolatey, and we retreated to our usual favored chocolate corners; milk chocolate for him, and white chocolate for me!

VerdictSwitzerland offered a great deal of snacking goodies this month! I thought the balance was pretty good between sweet and savory, and the sweet snacks varied widely from each other, which was neat. The hazelnut chocolate bar was absolutely amazing, I really liked the paprika chips, and I’m not even a little sorry about how fast we destroyed the Toblerone! I always look forward to this box to up my snacking game.

The promo info is not as great as described. The $1 Snack Box is only with a six month subscription. Otherwise it is $10.

Yeah, I definitely think the way that it allows you to sign up and enter your payment info(including credit card #) and then only after you confirm your order, does it pop up and say you will be committed to a 6 month subscription- that feels really scammy to me. There was absolutely nowhere that this was mentioned until after I entered all my info.

Exactly! I went back to see if I missed the fine print but it was not mentioned anywhere until checkout. It would be so easy for them to be upfront and just state $1 with a six month commitment or $10 without. They lost a potential customer in me because I don’t appreciate bait and switch tactics.

Vanessa

Just to let everyone know that the $1 box comes with a catch: You have to sign up for a six month Original box subscription in order to get the $1 Brazil box ( you don’t have to get Brazil. You can also choose Turkey or Korea). If you don’t want to do a six month plan and prefer to do a month to month plan, you can’t get the $1 box. You can get the box for $10 instead.

I consider this a bait and switch offer because they don’t tell you any of this until AFTER they have all your information, including you credit card. Once you hit the button to pay, that’s when a screen pops up to let you know about the six month required subscription ( which you my be penalized for if you try to cancel early), or buying the box for $10 with a month to month subscription.
