Sweet Sparkle December 2018 Review
Each month Sweet Sparkle includes an info card with an intro to the theme, products sampled and their retail values. This month’s theme is “Winter Wonder Glam” featuring 5 makeup products plus two bonus items.
CLĒ Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder in Cherry Red – Retail Value $20
Lip powders have always piqued my interest, so I was pretty excited when I saw this product, especially the shade sampled this month! I would qualify it as a neon red, which is such a unique color to my collection. It felt cold and wet going on, but it applied as a dry powder. I liked the texture, although, I like my lip products to provide some moisture (which this did not do). Overall, I like this product, but I think when I pull it out next, I would put a gloss over it. Also, you have to be careful with this because it was a little messy coming out of the tube.
Kokie Cosmetics Duo Metallic Shadow in Gone Platinum – Retail Value $8
Yay! I have never tried a stacked eyeshadow like this, even though I’ve seen a lot of brands coming out with them. This product is a two in one; the first layer is a cream shadow, and the bottom layer has a loose glitter matching the shadow. Kokie does a great job with nail polish and liquid lips, so I was pretty excited to try this shadow. The textures are great; the cream shadow glided on like a dream, and the sparkle was soft and flat, nothing textured or gritty about it. The cream shadow is meant to apply as a sticky base with the sparkle going on top, and I am thrilled to say this product worked beautifully; the glitter really stuck to the shadow and added lots of beautiful dimensions and shine!
Be a Bombshell Eye Paint in Bad Attitude – Retail Value $8
As a liquid eyeshadow enthusiast, I have a pretty high standard for products like this one; I don’t want to have to build it up too much with too many layers, I need it to dry quickly and stay in place, and I don’t like my eyes to feel like my lid is sticking or creasing with every blink. Luckily, this product passed each test, and this pretty, dark silvery shade has a great shine to it. I painted it directly on my lid, and after it dried, it did not budge!
Hikari Shimmer Bronzer Glow – Retail Value $17
I am not the biggest fan of shimmery bronzers, so at first glance, I didn’t think I would be into this product; however, I was pleasantly surprised to see how sheerly you could apply this. I applied it with a large stippling brush on the bronzer hot spots on my face, and I didn’t even need a highlight. The shimmer didn’t accentuate my pores, and the color turned out to be a nice, flattering bronzy gold.
Bellapierre Volumising Mascara – Retail Value $20
I like nice, thick, plump lashes, and this mascara did not deliver. It has a waxy formula that is hard to build up without making your lashes stick together. This product’s wand is pretty puny, too, and I generally rely on bigger wands to do most of the work for me.
This red liner stayed on my lips for hours! I was impressed with its longevity, and I am glad they included this bonus item to work hand in hand with the lip powder above!
Etude House Black Hydrogel Eye Patch – Retail Value $2.99, Listed Value $4.90
This is such a cutesy eye mask! I liked wearing it for that novelty, and the cold gel felt so nice on my puffy eyes, which were just barely awake at this point. Don’t mind my updo above, haha!
Swatches of the makeup (left to right):
Kleancolor liner, CLĒ Melting Lip Powder, Be a Bombshell Eye Paint, Kokie cream shadow alone, Kokie cream shadow w/ sparkle, Hikari bronzer
This look took me just a few minutes to put together with these easy-to-use products! I swiped on two layers of the Be a Bombshell eye paint in Bad Attitude, then I highlighted the middle of my lid with the Kokie cream shadow, then topping that off using my finger with a little of the Kokie sparkle. I then added several layers of the Bellapierre mascara, which never really built up the way I would have liked it to. Lastly, I filled in my lips with the Kleancolor liner in Hot Red, then went over that with the CLĒ Melting Lip Powder in Cherry Red. The lip powder was a little hard to even out, but the lip liner helped to fill the spaces in between. This look screams New Years to me, and I am loving it, especially that neon red lip!
Verdict: Every month I enjoy coming up with a cohesive look from Sweet Sparkle including all of the products, and I feel they put a really solid box together for December. They featured some top-notch brands and formulas that mostly worked for me, and I am loving the Winter Wonder Glam theme. This box has a retail value of $73, which is awesome for a $24.50 (+free shipping) box!
