Sigh….for the most part, I strongly feel that if you have specific requirements of the types of products and/or brands that you do and do not expect to see in a box, your money would be better spent shopping for what you really want than subscribing to boxes. Sub boxes aren’t designed to be money savers so much as to give you exposure to things you might not normally try. Overall, I find subs are not money savers.

That said…and I love Tribe, Bili, and the whole crew over there, but we just got a Tarte Highlighter palette last week. It’s beautiful and the bumps people are complaining about are nothing. You really have to be looking for flaws to have an issue with them. The thing is, less than one month later, we’ll be getting another Tarte Highlighter palette. The one I just got has 4 big pans, and now I’m getting 3 more. Of course, I’ll use them, but it takes some of the fun out of getting the package to get such a similar item. Obviously, Tarte and Too Faced are two of the better known brands willing to work with a less established sub service at a reasonable price, so good for them.

PS…the Mac purple pigment is stunning. I applied it over the Too Faced Shadow base and I sprayed a brush with Fix+. I got complements all day long on this purple on my lid.

I don’t think that Tarte and Too Faced are actually working directly with tribe though. Someone contacted Tarte about the bubbles in the palette and a representative from Tarte informed that person not to use it and to send the palette to them. It appears that some of the products that tribe receives are from third-party wholesalers. So the third-party is seemingly reselling the known brand products and tribe will buy from the third-party – not directly from tarte or too faced. That is what I glean anyway –

It’s known as gray market products. The products may or may not be legit or safe or expired. There’s no way to know for sure. Sub boxes doing this is irresponsible at best and dangerous at worst. Even if the sub box gets a sample of the batch they’re going to buy and tests it all the supplier has to do is buy and send a few real items for the testing part and then ship potential fakes when the order comes through. The Too Faced lippies always come boxed. Go to Ulta or Sephora and see for yourself. They’re all boxed individually. Every single product. Every lipstick, gloss, blush, etc. If you get one not in a box that’s a clue that it’s not freshly from the factory. Obviously boxycharm makes a big deal out of the meetings that they take with different companies for this reason. They’re never accused of sending fakes. They made an announcement that they are or were meeting with too faced for potentially an upcoming box. But these smaller boxes are admittedly buying gray market products without real proof that they’re real (bc there’s no way to provide that. Any proof they’re given can be easily faked i.e. invoices or even test results from in house labs) and this puts the sub box customers at risk.

I’m about to hit rouge for the 6th time this year. Plus I spend lots at other places. At this price point, i expect better quality and products for this sub and not a highlite/contour in every box. My tarte pallette has large bumps inside as well to the point that if it’s used a few times the whole pan will crumble out. Along with the little bubbles. I was going to gift it as a friends birthday gift, but can’t because of the condition it’s in. And yeah, for this price point people do expect more. Check YouTube even. People videos and comments are even saying the same things.

I have hit rouge 5 times already at sephora this year alone and about to hit #6. Plus, I buy macys and elsewhere. At this price people DO expect decent items. My pallette also has large bubbles in it and is awful. I was going to gift it,but can’t. If it was cheaper it wouldn’t be so bad, but at this price , yeah it should be great.

I’ve HIT rouge at sephora 5 times, this year alone already, amd about ready too for #6. I also spend money at macys and other places. I don’t expect sub boxes to supply all my makeup needs, but at the price they are asking plus shipping for this, dang right people expect high end things. Plus this is the 3rd highlite/contour in 3 boxes. Horrid!! Plus their items were broken and awful in the limited box. At this price, people DO expect better items, better quality. “Nice” just don’t cut it.

Why are comments being moderated for this?!?! Interesting

I have hit rouge 5 times already at sephora this year alone, also I shop a m acys, andnother places as well.

The customer service is nice, but when you are paying the price they are asking for this box, PLUS shipping…you expect it to be a decent box. I don’t care how “nice” they are. I don’t mind spending money if QUALITY is there, and so far this one it doesn’t seem to be.

The last “month” box they sent a contour/highlite stick

The limited edition box (that was super pricey) came with damaged HIGHLITER from tarte

Then there is a mix up with charging and they have to charge back
Then GUESS WHAT?!?! ANOTHER highlite and contour pallette.
Like seriously, you space that stuff out. Not send it in box after box. People sub to boxes to try new things they haven’t tried, or a products they seen and haven’t bought BUT at a decent price. Most of us DO spend money elsewhere and don’t depend on sub boxes to supply all our makeup needs, but with the price this one is asking, you would Think they would do a better job of figuring things out and getting it together, and especially with decent products at this price point. If it was 21 or 30 with shipping , it might not be so bad, but at the price it’s at, yes ma’mm we expect decent items.

I surely hope that they checked the palettes for damage BEFORE they take everyone’s money.. Just saying.

Hmm not happy with the spoiler. I may have to cancel. I don’t really like tarts highlighters as I have the contour palettes volume 2&3. And the contour shade isn’t going to work for my skin tone as an African American women as is the curator of the box. I love boxycharm but a lot of the complexion/contour products don’t work for my skin tone. I was super excited to see a high end box from someone who looks like me in that I would be able to get more products in my skin range. But that will look like straight ash on my face. I def passed on the limited edition and for the price I might have to pass on this box too!

The Tarte Pro Glow To Go palette was just found at Burlington (what used to be Burlington coat factory) for $17.99 by YouTube’s Kim Nuzzolo. Her vid was published May 12 and the time stamp for this product is 11:11.
This is the 2nd time I’ve seen a sub box include an old Tarte product. The 1st time was the May Lola box which included a Tarte palette that was a limited edition from last summer. I swear neither Tarte nor these sub boxes have any ethics or morals abt using/selling less than fresh products.

Exactly. And im shocked MSA published your thoughts, because they keep moderating and not publishing mine

Someone checked the lot code off of the Too Faced lip balm from April and it’s 4 years old…

Oooh no:(((((((( I bought the limited edition box and had the ruined tarte pallette I was going to give away as a gift. (Signed up before spoilers)

I don’t contour or highlight, so I don’t understand this box…they sent the nars contour and highlight in their last box…..the limited edition box main item was a tarte highlite….and NOW AGAIN is ANOTHER contour and highlite?!?!

Why in the world wouldn’t a box space this stuff out and not put them all back to back?!?! And for the price PLUS shipping for what they are offering is just not a good value. If they don’t start making some better decisions, I don’t really see them staying around that long…..

I’m not liking the price range plus shipping , and last months tribe or was it the limited addition one didn’t jump to me especially that purple Mac loose pigment, I’ll just keep watching and waiting to see if it will ever be an interest of mine

I thought this box was supposed to focus on more indie brands? I haven’t really seen much indie/small company brands, just lots of too faced, tarte, and other common brands.

Reply ButtonReply

justmissjamey

I would rather have high end brands for a box…thats the thing..there are too many sub boxes out here all with the majority of “indie brands” and indie brands are hit or miss and at the price range of this box, they better have some well known items.

Just a shame they keep having the same tarte stuff over and over and how much highlite does someone need and it’s back to back plus the limited edition box…..honestly the purple pigment and the tiny two faced primer (I got this size as a sample from sephora free a while back)is the only decent thing in the limited box….and the tarte pallette was ruined with bubbles.

This company needs to step up their products and get a variety, or lower their price point. If their price point was 21 to 25 with shipping it wouldn’t be so bad….it would be amazing if someone would come out with a high end box

Michelle Bross

Yes. I think there are far too many indie brands. I’m dying for a truly high-end box! I don’t mind.pqying $40 but it better not be choked full of samples and highlighter. I’m too old to highlight.

Tracey

I realize that Tribe is a fairly new subscription. There is so much growth and discovery coming. The CEO asked for a list of brands we would like to see. There are so many brands that she is looking into from that. (I’m loving discovering them.) Also cruelty free. There are many positive aspects of this box. 😉

Reply ButtonReply

justmissjamey

They aren’t cruelty free they sent nars last month (wish I would have got a blush lol)..also while tarte maybe “cruelty free” you do realise their parent company KOSÉ is not and does test on animals. They all do. If one brand don’t, their parent company will. That’s just how it works.

I heard tribe send expire stuff.

This is perfect for Summer! I don’t contour and have plenty of highlighters, but use these for eyes (liner and shadow) and brows. The size is travel ideal. Woo! Excited for the next Spoiler.

Another tarte. Another palette. I have enough highlighting palettes to rival the glow of the Moon and I don’t contour.
