I agree, 100%. I understand the mix of indie and high end products, but the value is NOT over $100. Not even close to $100. I get not everyone will love every product in the box, that is the nature of subscription boxes. But when it states on the website that the value will be over $100, then the value should not be $85. Apparently they used a mix of US and Canadian prices to inflate value, lipstick and spray is US dollars, and palette, brush, and masks are Canadian dollars. I really hope it was a mistake. This is my first box and I really don’t know if I should give it one more try to see if they make it better or not waste any more money on it.

I agree! I was very disappointed again for April! I cancelled it! I mean the box wasn’t bad, it was good, but not even the price value marketed and for the price of 42. Because of shipping it’s not worth it to me! 😌

I emailed them about this exact thing a week ago… I didn’t even get a response from them. Straight up ignored. I cancelled asap. I know that they’re just starting out, and maybe they got in over their heads, etc. but when they simply stop responding to my emails, I’m out.

Terrible customer service and a scam.

That’s troubling to hear. I did see a Facebook post about how they’re hiring someone to manage customer service so the owner can focus on product selection.

I am 100% disappointed with the value and quality of the April box. I’m cool with trying indie brands, but Ruby May is an indie brand at the level Ipsy would include in their bags. Tribe is 4 times more expensive, so I expect more. I’m willing to pay for higher quality, so that’s why I opted for a sub box that is 4 times the price of others. (Even if you subtract shipping — since the owner likes to remind everyone that they are small, Canadian, etc. — it’s still 3 times the price of Ipsy.

Most of the value of the April box came in the MaskerAide products. But they had already featured that company in the previous box, right? (I wasn’t a subscriber then.) Branch out. This is about discovery. And don’t suggest a box value to customers if you can’t meet it.

I haven’t canceled yet only because I’m waiting to see more information on the optional limited edition box that will be available at the end of the month, and one or two spoilers for the following month. I hate the April box, but I’ll consider the upcoming boxes before canceling. The owner did say in an very lengthy Facebook post that she “understands this may not have been their best box yet.”

It makes me wonder if she understood that before putting the boxes in the mail and just didn’t care, or if she only understood it because customers complained and immediately started putting their boxes up for sale or swap.

I received my third box! It is a mix of brands and I love that I have the opportunity to try them. I read some very negative comments on here and was disappointed. Granted items come on sale. Some are not what would be expected in a box, but wow. I prefer to not use the eye shadow. Okay, decision made. I like the other items. I’ve had twelve beauty subscriptions and cancelled all but Tribe and one other. This is the third box and items are not going to appeal to everyone. Just like products go on sale on various sites and not on others. I cannot justify tearing down something so emphatically on here. I think there is something about for every positive a negative is heard there times more. I’m going to keep my support for the box. The cost is more than some others, but this is just my choice. I didn’t write this to stir up things. I’m hoping this positive will be read and hopefully others will consider consideration.

Wow…as a tribe subscriber since the very beginning I have to say… What a letdown. Not only is this box significantly smaller for the price (I literally said outloud ‘wtf is this a joke?) but the colors should really be suited to what the purchasers preference is for this price. I mean, come on now…not only am I paying a good amount to cover you from not taking a loss, but I can’t even let you know my preference for items that would actually suit me and be used?
That melted latex gloss- I have tried that latex gloss when a friend tried to pawn theirs off on me and its ugly, blotchy and sticky.
Also, this palette is tiiiiny. The masks are meh. While I’m on the mask topic I’ll just say that last months spot treatments didn’t even work either. That brand is disappointing and turning into a regular occuring brand in your boxes. Where are the vast number of brands you’ve been talking about?

This month I am selling my entire box to someone who wanted it but didn’t make the list, and keeping an eye on the future spoilers to determine whether or not to cancel. I have faith in you still Tribe, dont crash and burn by not listening to your customers!

Reply ButtonReply

me

I’m a subscriber since the beginning as well and you can fit this box inside the older ones and still have room, I wonder if all future boxes will be this size?(tiny). I’m still a sub but from now on I will only judge the first spoiler as to whether I will purchase the box or not. If no spoiler before the 15th of next month I’m cancelling. I knew I was in trouble when the first spoiler was travel size, should have listened to my gut feeling. If I miss out on a great box oh well, I rather miss out than feel like I just wasted 41 bucks. Glossy box limited edition is valued at over 200 for only 35 and I wished I’ve invested in that other than this box. It was a huge loss for me:/

You shall have to enlighten us with your gut instincts on it and let the rest of us know. Oh thought it was just 34.99 and then found out another 6.99 shipping. Seriously the products don’t seem there or the value. I’m still on the waitlist and debating..
Even the last couple boxes the value and products don’t seem good.

They told me they are getting a warehouse in the states in j une, so then shipping will go down to 5.00..oooaah 2 dollar difference. Seems like their I don’t see two faced as high end, and you can save the 34.99 plus 6.99 and buy a full-size pallette or whatever….was super excited until I watched YouTube videos opening their boxes

Lucy

I just got my box. Yep, I’m an idiot. And I hate my money. Only this will explain the reason why I subscribed to this box. What a joke.

Kim

Yep, I feel you. Cancelled ad soon as I opened my box.

Wow how did this box sell out… This is a terrible value box. Drugstore quality palette (cheap ingredients), already discounted full size high end brand lip product, and the only good high end product is sample size? This is an Ipsy bag for 4x the cost. And you have to pay for shipping which I would absolutely never do for a subscription box. And I’m sorry but the brand explaining on here that they have to charge shipping or they would lose money doesn’t make anything better to me. It’s fairly common knowledge that most businesses lose money for the first 1-3 years. It’s not the consumer’s fault, they shouldn’t have to pick up the slack.

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

I was thinking today that I have had Ipsy bags about just as nice as this box and for a quarter of the price. I’m so disappointed with myself for falling for this. Can’t believe I stayed up to midnight to order this and I felt Lucky I got one at the time. I Guess you live and learn. Allure just released some Awesome spoilers for the next 3 months though.

Cat

Not worth it to me, Palette doesn’t impress me as anything exciting or really good quality (the swatches look nice and pigmented, but ingredients meh). I have the full size MJ spray and can say that it’s amazing, but the spray nozzle could be better. I’m going to switch mist bottles on it and make a more travel friendly version with better nozzle. It’s great for under makeup and makes a slightly sticky base, as well as over if you can get it to most more finely. Smells amazing.

That said, there’s a pretty good gift set over on Sephora right now with the full size spray, the primer and the highlighter drops for a good discount…the formula on all 3 is pretty good quality IMO

I feel This subscription was so overhyped. From the many restocking’s big waitlist sells out and then for them to come out with these kind of spoilers is very disappointing. I feel very let down and will not fall for this hype again. Another case of a subscription getting too big for their britches. Giving us products that are already on sale at a severely discounted price or very small eye pallet from a drugstore like brand. Way too darn expensive for the box plus paying for shipping. Umm. Excuse me. Nope. After I get my first and LAST box I will be canceling.

Tribe Beauty Box

Hi there,

It’s impossible for us to control whether or not a brand will put a product we feature in our box on sale. Most of these sales are seasonal or temporary, so they don’t affect the retail value of the item you are receiving 🙂

Carrie Boudreau

Well I am glad I am not the only one who is not impressed the last 2 boxes looked amazing so I signed up thinking that is what I would be getting boxes along those lines. I feel like this is a boxycharm level box at best and should not be over $40. I am sadly going to have to agree I feel ripped off. I canceled my boxycharm box years ago because it got so terrible I could not justify the costs anymore as of late they have stepped it up so I resubscribed. I seen tribe and was so excited only to be massively let down thus far. I think it is insane the cost and than to have to pay shipping on top of it. I am going to cancel and stick to boxy after my first box unless I am blown away with those last 2 products to.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

I saw the last two items and I’m very disappointed. My biggest issue is the flat out lie of the value of the box. On the website it states over $100 value, and this months value is about : $85. ( depending on which too face product & size of the marc jacobs) .( and thats everything at full price, even though most of the items are on sale). How can you state something is over $100 when the value doesn’t add up? That’s very misleading, and I will be canceling based on that alone. I understand you get hit or miss products with other subscription boxed, but the value is always there. This box WAS NOT.

What are the last two products? I have tried to look for more information but can’t find it. Someone posted it was facial masks and a brush but I thought she was referring to products from the February box because they were similar?

Misti

I would rather order 37.50 in Estee Lauder products from Macy’s and get the free 7 pc set from Estee . free ship too.

I just looked up the ingredients in this palette on the Ruby May website. It includes two different parabens and as we know parabens have been linked as a cause of breast cancer. Plus it has talc and mineral oil, other cheap ingredients. This palette has very cheap ingredients, I don’t care if the colors are pretty if the ingredients are harmful to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Lucy

This is very concerning. Parabens? Really? To think that I stopped everything just to stay in front of my laptop, waiting to sign up on the last re-stocking, for this. I feel like an idiot.

My palette is going right in the trash. I won’t even sell it to anyone if it has parabens. Morally I can’t do it

Kim

I thought the same when I read the ingredients

This is my first Tribe beauty box. It is reminding me of how I felt after I bought the Limited Edition Boxycharm box for about $45. I was happy to get it but then disappointed with the products. Now when I compare what I paid for that to what I paid for this, I feel the LE box was a better deal. I don’t understand how they could even try to inflate the values of these products to say the value is over $100. Probably they will say the Too Faced lipstick at full value is $22, the makeup brush (assuming we get it) is $11.50, the palette is $12.50. So that equals about $50. I am not sure if the value of the spray, maybe $15? The last product would then have to equal $35 or more.

Just now saw this and OMG…drugstore palette? Ummm..no. Just no. I thought the Marc Jacobs was full sized too. Ugh…I feel bad for those who signed up for this. Glad I didn’t.
I just am not seeing the value here. The other items need to be phenomenal for this box to be salvageable.
Still shaking my head over those 75% off lipsticks as well.

Tribe Beauty Box

Hi there,

We’ve always advertised Tribe as a mix of trendy and indie brands/products. Ruby May is an independent brand 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Dana

Ugh. I feel bad for me right now. I waited months before signing up for a beauty sub box. MONTHS. And then I finally pulled the trigger…on this box of crap.

Reply ButtonReply

M. R.

Seriously, you should have pulled the trigger on Boxycharm. Even when I have complained about Boxycharm, I will never say it’s not worth the money. If you like one product out of the box, it’s worth it. Just my opinion.

No such luck:/

“Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, like all other subscription boxes, we do not issue refunds except a product is defective.

my comment didn’t show up:/ but boxes don’t ship out till the 1st of the month. Lets ask for a refund since our boxes haven’t shipped out yet and see how great customer service really is:)

.....

lol, don’t feel bad Dana, you’re not the only one. I had a feeling the first few boxes would be amazing and then they would go down hill..just didn’t think this quick though. We’re all in the same boat here, out $42 dollars( to make it worse I keep thinking of what I could have gotten myself with that money) boxes haven’t shipped out yet I will send an email requesting a refund. Boxes start shipping out the 1st of the month..you should try that too;) as great a customer service as they say they have it should be simple. We will soon see!

Mandy G.

I’d love to see a review here of a box as ordered and paid for by the customer. ( Not a reviewer box, IOW). What most of you are saying is truly appalling… I totally believe you, just shocked.
Somehow, I had thought this was a top quality box, but have never gotten one…

So if the makeup brush is the 4th item, there may or may not be a fifth item since it only promises 4-5 full or deluxe size products. At least they have shipped the items relatively early in the month so I assume it will ship in the next 10 days. I can’t imagine the next product or products having a $50-$60 value to add up to $100. I think the full price value of the lipstick is $22, brush is $11.50, palette is $12.50 and I don’t know the value of the coconut spray-$15 maybe? I am just bummed. I am considering canceling Boxycharm too because they only have 1 spoiler so far and I don’t need to be stuck with more stuff I don’t need

Reply ButtonReply

.....

The only thing that would’ve made this box great is the marc jacobs but full size…this is reminding me of boxycharm but twice as expensive:/ maybe its time to take a break from it. Didn’t want to because the first two boxes were pretty good and there is a waitlist but because of fomo i’m stuck with a box I do not want. There are two products left and i’m hoping they saved the best for last!

Reply ButtonReply

Aarjullor

So far, I’m not impressed with anything in this box. I wish I could cancel and get a refund. I’m upset with myself for spending so much on this. Maybe someone will want to buy the whole box from me.

Reply ButtonReply

Dana

Agreed. Unless that final item is outstanding, my whole box will be for sale.

I feel confused about the Tribe Facebook group because when I checked it earlier, all the comments about the eyeshadow palette were overwhelmingly positive. How can you be excited to pay $40+ for a box and get a $12.50 drugstore-level eye palette? I guess it’s just really a fan group?

Dana

If you read the comments under the swatched eyeshadow photos on the Facebook Tribe group page, it looks like the tools we will be receiving are Zoeva brushes. The 234 Luxe Smoky Shader ($11.50) is pictured along with one other brush.

It’s not a Zoeva brush 🙂

I read somewhere that someone got the Marc Jacobs deluxe spray for free from Sephora, maybe it was on their website under the reviews. I am starting to feel like I overpaid. Where is the $100 value?

Bella01

I can’t fathom paying for shipping too. Just to over rated for me.

Kim

Me too!

I had this box in my cart, and decided against it because none of the lip colors appealed to me. I’m so glad I made that choice, Ricky’s cult crushes is way better, for me, this month for only 11$.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Hmmm. Why is this box $35 + shipping? Glad it was sold out before I could sign up.

Reply ButtonReply

Tribe Beauty Box

We charge for shipping because we ship from Toronto, Canada. As a small box (3rd box), it’s virually impossible for us or any company to offer free shipping without running at a loss.

Reply ButtonReply

Renee

Are you even listening to your customers feedback? They wouldn’t mind paying shipping and everything IF the box was worth The advertised price? Seriously if this is how you handle customer service your box won’t be around much longer

Bella01

The Too Faced lipstick was just 7 dollars on their website they had 75 percent off. I actually grabbed a few

Reply ButtonReply

Glossybox subscriber

The palette is $12.50 on the Ruby May website. If only one or two items other yet to be disclosed items are included, i hope the value is $100 total as noted

Reply ButtonReply

Dana

I looked that price up right away, too. I’m not excited about that eyeshadow palette. I waited a long time to sign up for a subscription box, and one of the reasons I ended up choosing Tribe is that they seemed to focus on high-end products. The Too Faced melted latex lip product for this box is on sale for $10 in stores, and the eyeshadow palette is drugstore level at $12.50. Bummer. This will be my first Tribe box, but if the last two products don’t step up the game, it will also be my last Tribe box.

Reply ButtonReply

Lucy

I feel the same. I got excited about this box after checking the February spoilers. I’m looking for a chance to try high end products. I never heard about this eyeshadow brand before and I’m very disappointed.

Glossybox subscriber

So the fourth will be a beauty tool. Hopefully there is a fifth product (skincare or face prep?). I am also concerned about getting a wild lip color I will never wear. I hope I haven’t wasted my money.
