Dinnerly is the most affordable meal kit subscription box, at just $5 per serving. It was created for people who like homemade cooking, but don’t like overpaying for the good things in life. They use the same quality ingredients as other meal kits, but keep the cost low by taking a simpler approach: digital recipe cards instead of paper, fewer ingredients per dish (which means less chopping and cleaning), simple packaging, and no fancy marketing campaigns.

The Box: Dinnerly

The Cost: Choose between a $30.99 Two Person Box + $8.99 Shipping (3 recipes for 2 people) or $60.99 Family Box + $8.99 Shipping (3 recipes for 2 adults and 2 kids)

I just ordered my first box I was shocked there was no choice. And what was in the box I don’t want. So I canceled. They still charged me and they still sending my first box. I’m lucky I used PayPal because I’m calling them 1st thing in the morning.

It’s a little shady they don’t include shipping when bragging about being $5 per serving, especially when there isn’t an option to avoid the shipping charge by buying more meals or a longer subscription. The 2-adult option is $6.50/person and the 2-adult-2-kid option is $5.75/person. (btw, I think the extra .99 on the base prices in this post is a typo.)

Also, the base price of the family box ($60) is twice the base price of the two-person box ($60), but describing the portions as “two adults and two kids” sure makes it seem like you’re not going to get twice as much food in the family box. That is, I wonder if they send smaller portions for the kiddos but still charge the adult amount?

Dawn that was my problem, I want options to choose from!

I like the price point and some of the dishes appeal to me but I have never experienced a meal kit that does not have multiple options for you to choose from. Not sure how I feel about that as we might waste food if someone is not into the recipe(s) that week.
